Geoengineering prognoses are often based on data from a limited number of investigations of soil and rock mass. There is generally a desire to reduce the uncertainty in the prognoses while minimising the investigation costs. Value of Information Analysis (VOIA) is a support for decisions regarding investigation strategies and the aim of this paper is to present methodology for VOIA that takes into account four decision alternatives where the input data could be provided by experts. The methodology will be applied in a case study where the value of information related to an investigation borehole will be calculated. The results indicate that the value of information of the borehole is low compared with the realisation costs of the investigation. It was found that models for VOIA in underground construction projects are complex but that the analysis can be simplified with extensive use of expert knowledge and calculations of the value of perfect information as a benchmark for investigation strategies. 相似文献

We present an analysis of the relative bias between early- and late-type galaxies in the Two-degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) – as defined by the η parameter of Madgwick et al., which quantifies the spectral type of galaxies in the survey. We calculate counts in cells for flux-limited samples of early- and late-type galaxies, using approximately cubical cells with sides ranging from 7 to 42 h −1 Mpc . We measure the variance of the counts in cells using the method of Efstathiou et al., which we find requires a correction for a finite volume effect equivalent to the integral constraint bias of the autocorrelation function. Using a maximum-likelihood technique we fit lognormal models to the one-point density distribution, and develop methods of dealing with biases in the recovered variances resulting from this technique. We then examine the joint density distribution function, f (δE , δL ) , and directly fit deterministic bias models to the joint counts in cells. We measure a linear relative bias of ≈1.3, which does not vary significantly with ℓ. A deterministic linear bias model is, however, a poor approximation to the data, especially on small scales (ℓ≤ 28 h −1 Mpc) where deterministic linear bias is excluded at high significance. A power-law bias model with index b 1 ≈ 0.75 is a significantly better fit to the data on all scales, although linear bias becomes consistent with the data for ℓ≳ 40 h −1 Mpc . 相似文献

The feldspar minerals occur in a wide variety of lithologies throughout the Solar System, often containing a variety of chemical and structural features indicative of the crystallization conditions, cooling history and deformational state of the crystal. Such phenomena are often poorly resolved in micrometre-scale analyses. Here, atom probe tomography (APT) is conducted on Ca-rich (bytownite) and Na-rich (albite) plagioclase reference materials, experimentally exsolved K-feldspar (sanidine), shock-induced plagioclase glass (labradorite-composition), and shocked and recrystallized plagioclase to directly test the application of APT to feldspar and yield new insights into crystallographic features such as amorphisation and exsolution. Undeformed plagioclase reference materials (Amelia albite and Stillwater bytownite) appear chemically homogenous, and yield compositions largely within uncertainty of published data. Within microstructurally complex materials, APT can resolve chemical variations across a ~?20 nm wide exsolution lamella and define major element (Na, K) diffusion profiles across the lamella boundaries, which appear gradational over a ~?10 nm length scale in experimentally exsolved K-feldspar NNPP-04b. The plagioclase glass within the Zagami shergottite shows no heterogeneity in the distribution of major elements, although the enrichment of Fe, Mg and Sr in the bulk microtip points to at least minor incorporation of surrounding phases (pyroxene), and with that supports a shock-melt origin for the glass (maskelynite). The recrystallization of feldspar during post-shock annealing, such as in poikilitic shergottite NWA 6342, appears to induce a range of chemical nanostructures that locally effect the composition of the material. These findings demonstrate the ability of APT to yield new insights into nanoscale composition and chemical structures of alumniosilicate phases, highlighting an exciting new avenue with which to analyse these key rock-forming minerals. 相似文献
