Evidence for glacial erosion of competent intrusive igneous rock is described for sites at Quart Pot Creek, Stanthorpe, Queensland. The bedrock, comprising the Stanthorpe Adamellite, was emplaced during the Early‐Middle Triassic. It is argued that the pluton was exposed during the late Middle ‐ Late Triassic and subjected to glacial erosion at that time. This was consequent to the rapid uplift and denudation of the landscape, which accompanied the Hunter‐Bowen Orogeny. Burial of the eroded surface occurred most probably during that ice age and a subsequent period of subsidence. The ancient surface has been exhumed during more recent denudation. It is suggested that during the late Middle ‐ Late Triassic, climatic conditions remained cold enough over this part of southeastern Australia at least for valley glaciers to form and influence landscape development.  相似文献

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), important constituents of petroleum products, are known to enter freshwater systems via industrial effluents. In the present study the possible toxicity of automobile effluent presumably containing PAH was demonstrated in the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium lamarrei. The prawns were exposed for 1, 8, 15 and 28 days to two sublethal concentrations (0.75% and 3.75%) of automobile effluent. A decrease was noted in the total protein content in haemolymph and hepatopancreas of prawns exposed for 28 days to both these sublethal concentrations. SDS-PAGE revealed that the effluent caused reduction in high molecular weight proteins (106-90 kD) of the haemolymph. The exposure to automobile effluent resulted in changes in the lamellar structure of the gills and shrinkage of hepatopancreatic cell types. In the summer seasons of 2004–2007, the intensive runoff (cascading) of the Antarctic shelf water (ASW) down the shelf and continental slope was revealed thanks to the recording of numerous thermohaline profiles across the shelf and continental slope of the Commonwealth Sea and Prydz Bay. The quickly executed profiles (4–10 h) with submesoscale resolution (near the shelf’s edge, the scale was even eddy-determinative, i.e., within 1.9–5.6 km), in combination with the fine-structure sounding and fine vertical resolution of the near-bottom boundary layer, provided a qualitatively new level of understanding the natural data. The detailed analysis of the temperature, salinity, and density patterns revealed the regularities and peculiarities of the ASW shelf and slope cascading. The intensive ASW cascading near the shelf break and lower part of the slope can be forced (appearing as discrete frontal meanders) or free (appearing as discrete plumes) and often has a wave-eddy character. The field observational data confirmed the obtained representative estimates of the elements of the ASW slope cascading. The basic area of the ASW formation is near the Amery Shelf Ice, from where the ASW spreads to the northwest, goes around the Fram Bank, and flows down the continental slope. The evaluative contribution of the ASW slope cascading to the ventilation of the deep and slope water of the Southern Ocean (near the shelf break 70 km long where the ASW cascading was observed) is Q K = 0.04–0.24 Sv, which agrees well with the analogous estimates obtained in other regions of the Antarctic.  相似文献

The ability of cultured zooxanthellae to use ammonium and nitrate was tested. The zooxanthellae were initially isolated from the anemone Aiptasia pulchella. The zooxanthellae were able to grow on media supplemented with either form of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) although ammonium was inhibitory above 300 μM. In accord with the intact symbiosis and freshly isolated algae, the cultured zooxanthellae took up ammonium. In contrast, the cultured algae demonstrated nitrate uptake and utilization. This was enhanced with DIN deprivation. Nitrate reductase was found in the algae and appeared to be inducible. Within the animal host, excretory ammonium may repress this induction.  相似文献

Using SUMER observations taken above the limb of a quiet region we derive electron temperatures, emission measures, and absolute elemental abundances. This analysis, which uses recently published ionization balance calculations and the latest solar photospheric abundances, indicates that the low-FIP elements are enriched by a factor of 2.3±0.7 in the corona, which is smaller than some previous measurements. TRACE observations of this region yield systematically lower temperatures and emission measures.  相似文献

A petrographic, geochemical, and oxygen isotopic study of the Bali CV3 carbonaceous chondrite revealed that the meteorite has undergone extensive deformation and aqueous alteration on its parent body. Deformation textures are common and include flattened chondrules, a well-developed foliation, and the presence of distinctive (100) planar defects in olivine. The occurrence of alteration products associated with the planar defects indicates that the deformation features formed prior to the episode of aqueous alteration. The secondary minerals produced during the alteration event include well-crystallized Mg-rich saponite, framboidal magnetite, and Ca-phosphates. The alteration products are not homogeneously distributed throughout the meteorite, but occur in regions adjacent to relatively unaltered material, such as veins of altered material following the foliation. The alteration assemblage formed under oxidizing conditions at relatively low temperatures (<100 degrees C). Altered regions in Bali have higher Na, Ca, and P contents than unaltered regions which suggests that the fluid phase carried significant dissolved solids. Oxygen isotopic compositions for unaltered regions in Bali fall within the field for other CV3 whole-rocks, however, the oxygen isotopic compositions of the heavily altered material lie in the region for the CM and CR chondrites. The heavy-isotope enrichment of the altered regions in Bali suggest alteration conditions similar to those for the petrographic type-2 carbonaceous chondrites.  相似文献

The long-term CCD and photoelectric observations of YY Her covering the period of its post-outburst activity (JD 2 451 823 -- 2 452 996) are presented. We explain the periodic variations of the brightness of YY Her by the eclipses of the components in the system. The model with a deformed (non-homogeneous) envelope, surrounding the white dwarf is discussed. In addition, we observed a flare in about JD 2 452 440, during the primary minimum, that was later followed by an energetic outburst in JD 2 452 700.  相似文献

This article is to reveal and corroborate the geodynamic conditions for the formation of Cretaceous sedimentary basins of the Russian Far East. The conclusions are based on the comprehensive analysis of the extensive mapping materials and special structural field studies. It has been found that sedimentary basins developed as rift-grabens were synchronous with formation of horsts separating the basins. The imbricated-thrust structures, which are morphologically similar to the subduction-related accretionary prisms but nevertheless different in nature, were formed within the transition zone between the uplifted structures and basins. A synsedimentary supply of a mantle-derived material into basins points to a temporarily continual extension of continental lithosphere. The lithospheric plates moved apart during the strike slip faulting with the subsequent involvement of convective mantle flows and plume diapirism (continental spreading?). Because of horizontal movement of lithospheric plates, horstlike uplifts were formed in the frontal zones. In sedimentary formations overlapping the lithospheric plates, the synsedimentary imbricated-thrust structures were developed, favouring a growth of the uplifts in lateral direction toward the axial zones of rift-grabens. Synchronously with basaltic volcanic activity in the rift-graben zones, basic-ultrabasic intrusive magmatism occurred within the limits of the contiguous uplifts.  相似文献
