New Occurrence of the Early Cambrian Chengjiang Fauna in Haikou, Kunming, Yunnan Province,and Study on Trilobitoidea

This paper gives a brief report on the new occurrence of the Early CambrianQiongzhusi' an Chengjiang fauna in the Haikou area, Kunming and its assemblage feature andthe stratigraphic section of the horizon yielding these fossils. Eight genera and 8 species ofTrilobitoidea are described here, embracing Leanchoilia asiatica Luo et Hu (sp. nov.), Yohoiasinensis Luo et Hu (sp. nov.), Zhongxinia speciosa Luo et Hu (gen. et sp. nov.), Xandarellaspectuculum Hou et al., Dianchia mirabilis Luo et Hu (gen. et sp. nov.), Kuamaia lata Hou,Retifacies longispinus Luo et Hu (sp. nov.) and Sinoburius lunaris Hou et al.

A probabilistic seismic hazard assessment for the Turkish territory—part I: the area source model

The seismic zoning map of Turkey that is used in connection with the national seismic design code (versions issued both in 1997 and 2007) is based on a probabilistic seismic hazard assessment study conducted more than 20 years ago (Gülkan et al. in En son verilere göre haz?rlanan Türkiye deprem bölgeleri haritas?, Report No: METU/EERC 93-1, 1993). In line with the efforts for the update of the seismic design code, the need aroused for an updated seismic hazard map, incorporating recent data and state-of-the-art methodologies and providing ground motion parameters required for the construction of the design spectra stipulated by the new Turkish Earthquake Design Code. Supported by AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey), a project has been conducted for the country scale assessment of the seismic hazard by probabilistic methods. The present paper describes the probabilistic seismic hazard assessment study conducted in connection with this project, incorporating in an area source model, all recently compiled data on seismicity and active faulting, and using a set of recently developed ground motion prediction equations, for both active shallow crustal and subduction regimes, evaluated as adequately representing the ground motion characteristics in the region. The area sources delineated in the model are fully parameterized in terms of maximum magnitude, depth distribution, predominant strike and dip angles and mechanism of possible ruptures. Resulting ground motion distributions are quantified and presented for PGA and 5 % damped spectral accelerations at T = 0.2 and 1.0 s, associated with return periods of 475 and 2475 years. The full set of seismic hazard curves was also made available for the hazard computation sites. The second part of the study, which is based on a fault source and smoothed seismicity model is covered in Demircioglu et al. in Bull Earthq Eng, (2016).     

An accretion disc surrounding a component of epsilon aurigae

The low-mass model of Epsilon Aurigae consisting of an F supergiant star a Main-Sequence B star which is surrounded by a cool accretion disc has been investigated. The disc requires a high accretion rate if we assume the disc to be completely heated up by friction alone. On the other hand, discs with low accretion rates are possible when the disc are heated up from the radiation of both stars. A swollen crescent portion produced by the radiation of the F star may form a bulky body sufficient to obscure the radiation of the F star.Astronomical Institute, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan.     

会泽超大型铅锌矿田方解石Sm-Nd等时线年龄及其地质意义

云南会泽超大型铅锌矿田由麟麒厂和矿山厂两个独立的铅锌矿床组成,方解石是两个矿床矿石中唯一的脉石矿物。本文利用方解石 Sm-Nd 等时线测定了麒麟厂6号矿体和矿山厂1号矿体的成矿时代。结果表明,会泽超大型铅锌矿田两个矿床的成矿时代一致,麒麟厂矿床为 226±15 Ma,矿山厂矿床为 225±38 Ma,如果把来自两个矿体的所有13个样品的数据作为一条等时线计算,在等时线图上仍然表现良好的线性关系,等时线年龄为222±14 Ma;结合地质、地球化学资料,认为两个矿床为同期同源成矿作用的产物。本文获得的会泽超大型铅锌矿床成矿时代与西南大面积峨眉山玄武岩成岩时代(250 Ma左右)在误差范围内接近,为“峨眉山玄武岩浆活动与铅锌成矿存在成因联系”提供了年代学证据。     

闽西北地区萤石矿成矿地质规律及找矿方向

闽西北地区萤石矿几乎均分布在闽西北隆起带的次一级浦城-洋源隆起和邵武-建宁拗陷带上,带内发育的北东—北北东向压扭性断裂通过燕山早期花岗岩的部位,是矿床的集中分布区域,控矿断裂中破碎带发育且蚀变(硅化)强烈地段是最有利的成矿地段,该地段应成为今后找矿重点。

Characteristics of the response of isothermal atmospheres with nonlinear waves

Abstract

We have studied the behavior of nonlinear waves in isothermal atmospheres using an improved beam scheme method. It is shown that although the magnitude of the mass leakage due to side beams is significant, nevertheless in a motion close to hydrostatic equilibrium it can be suppressed, if special density distributions and/or suitable mesh intervals are selected. We adopt as the parameters for our model of the atmospheres M=1 M[odot], R=50 R[odot] and T=4864 K. The time variation of the physical quantities in each cell is found for several oscillation periods. The critical frequency for the model atmosphere in the case of waves with a weak nonlinearity seems to be consistent with that in the linear theory.     

Study by MOA of extrasolar planets in gravitational microlensing events of high magnification

A search for extrasolar planets was carried out in three gravitational microlensing events of high magnification, MACHO  98–BLG–35  , MACHO  99–LMC–2  and OGLE  00–BUL–12  . Photometry was derived from observational images by the MOA and OGLE groups using an image subtraction technique. For MACHO  98–BLG–35  , additional photometry derived from the MPS and PLANET groups was included. Planetary modelling of the three events was carried out in a supercluster computing environment. The estimated probability for explaining the data on MACHO  98–BLG–35  without a planet is <1 per cent. The best planetary model has a planet of mass ∼(0.4–1.5)× M _Earth at a projected radius of either ∼1.5 or ∼2.3 au. We show how multiplanet models can be applied to the data. We calculate exclusion regions for the three events and find that Jupiter-mass planets can be excluded with projected radii from as wide as about 30 au to as close as around 0.5 au for MACHO  98–BLG–35  and OGLE  00–BUL–12  . For MACHO  99–LMC–2  , the exclusion region extends out to around 10 au and constitutes the first limit placed on a planetary companion to an extragalactic star. We derive a particularly high peak magnification of ∼160 for OGLE  00–BUL–12  . We discuss the detectability of planets with masses as low as Mercury in this and similar events.     

The MOA catalogue of eclipsing binary stars in the Small Magellanic Cloud

We present a catalogue of 167 eclipsing binary stars in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) derived from the data base of time-series photometry for 400 000 SMC stars acquired by the Microlensing Observations in Astrophysics (MOA) project during 1997. We print coordinates, ephemerides, magnitudes and light curves for the 35 new detections; similar data and finding charts are available electronically for the whole catalogue. The majority of periods lie within the range 0.4 to 20 d; six systems are possibly eccentric while 14 are probably or certainly so. The majority of the newly identified systems lie in the outer regions of the SMC.
