This paper develops a compensation algorithm based on Linear–Quadratic–Gaussian (LQG) control system design whose parameters
are determined (in part) by a model of the atmosphere. The model for the atmosphere is based on the open-loop statistics of
the atmosphere as observed by the wavefront sensor, and is identified from these using an auto-regressive, moving average
(ARMA) model. The (LQG) control design is compared with an existing compensation algorithm for a simulation developed at ESO
that represents the operation of MACAO adaptive optics system on the 8.2 m telescopes at Paranal, Chile.

We test the compatibility and biases of multi-thermal flare DEM (differential emission measure) peak temperatures determined with AIA with those determined by GOES and RHESSI using the isothermal assumption. In a set of 149 M- and X-class flares observed during the first two years of the SDO mission, AIA finds DEM peak temperatures at the time of the peak GOES 1?–?8 Å flux to have an average of T p=12.0±2.9 MK and Gaussian DEM widths of log10(σ T )=0.50±0.13. From GOES observations of the same 149 events, a mean temperature of T p=15.6±2.4 MK is inferred, which is systematically higher by a factor of T GOES/T AIA=1.4±0.4. We demonstrate that this discrepancy results from the isothermal assumption in the inversion of the GOES filter ratio. From isothermal fits to photon spectra at energies of ?≈6?–?12 keV of 61 of these events, RHESSI finds the temperature to be higher still by a factor of T RHESSI/T AIA=1.9±1.0. We find that this is partly a consequence of the isothermal assumption. However, RHESSI is not sensitive to the low-temperature range of the DEM peak, and thus RHESSI samples only the high-temperature tail of the DEM function. This can also contribute to the discrepancy between AIA and RHESSI temperatures. The higher flare temperatures found by GOES and RHESSI imply correspondingly lower emission measures. We conclude that self-consistent flare DEM temperatures and emission measures require simultaneous fitting of EUV (AIA) and soft X-ray (GOES and RHESSI) fluxes. 相似文献

The three-dimensional (3D) modeling of coronal loops and filaments requires algorithms that automatically trace curvilinear
features in solar EUV or soft X-ray images. We compare five existing algorithms that have been developed and customized to
trace curvilinear features in solar images: i) the oriented-connectivity method (OCM), which is an extension of the Strous pixel-labeling algorithm (developed by Lee,
Newman, and Gary); ii) the dynamic aperture-based loop-segmentation method (developed by Lee, Newman, and Gary); iii) unbiased detection of curvilinear structures (developed by Steger, Raghupathy, and Smith); iv) the oriented-direction method (developed by Aschwanden); and v) ridge detection by automated scaling (developed by Inhester). We test the five existing numerical codes with a TRACE image
that shows a bipolar active region and contains over 100 discernable loops. We evaluate the performance of the five codes
by comparing the cumulative distribution of loop lengths, the median and maximum loop length, the completeness or detection
efficiency, the accuracy, and flux sensitivity. These algorithms are useful for the reconstruction of the 3D geometry of coronal
loops from stereoscopic observations with the STEREO spacecraft, or for quantitative comparisons of observed EUV loop geometries

Over the last decade several new models for the sporadic interplanetary meteoroid flux have been developed. These include
the Divine-Staubach and the Dikarev model. They typically cover mass ranges from 10−18 g to 1 g and are applicable for model specific Sun distance ranges between 0.1 AU and 20 AU Near 1 AU averaged fluxes (over
direction and velocities) for all these models are tuned to the well established interplanetary model by Grün et al. However,
in many respects these models differ considerably. Examples are the velocity and directional distributions and the assumed
meteoroid sources. In this paper flux predictions by the various models to Earth orbiting spacecraft are compared. Main differences
are presented and analysed. The persisting differences even for near Earth space can be seen as surprising in view of the
numerous ground based (optical and radar) and in situ (captured Inter Stellar Dust Particles, in situ detectors and analysis

Methods and results of earthquake data analysis are illustrated by the seismicity of Sweden in the period 1951–1976, summarizing a comprehensive research project for the past five years. Starting from the regional structural properties, methods are given for the evaluation of instrumental and macroseismic observations, including error analysis and source identification. The resulting earthquake distribution is investigated in relation to space (various types of seismicity mapping), time (periodicities) and magnitude (frequency-magnitude and energy-magnitude relations). The tectonophysical explanations of the earthquake origin are still subject to considerable uncertainty and can be treated only by way of discussions. The engineering applications, stimulated recently by the nuclear power industry, can be placed on much more reliable ground. They include calculations of seismic risk and fracture risk as well as investigations of certain phenomena of practical consequences, especially rockbursts.This review is primarily addressed to those who have use for seismological data in their work, especially geologists, tectonophysicists and engineers. It is important for them to realize how the seismological data are obtained, their reliability and their range of application. Sweden is here mainly used as an example, but the developed methods have a general applicability to any earthquake region, with proper modifications.In short, our purpose is two-fold: (1) to summarize recent research on the seismicity of Sweden: (2) to introduce all users of seismological data into methods and results. 相似文献

High and variable levels of salinity were investigated in an intermittent stream in a high-rainfall area (~800 mm/year) of the Mt. Lofty Ranges of South Australia. The groundwater system was found to have a local, upslope saline lens, referred to here as a groundwater salinity ‘hotspot’. Environmental tracer analyses (δ18O, δ2H, 87/86Sr, and major elements) of water from the intermittent stream, a nearby permanent stream, shallow and deep groundwater, and soil-water/runoff demonstrate seasonal groundwater input of very saline composition into the intermittent stream. This input results in large salinity increases of the stream water because the winter wet-season stream flow decreases during spring in this Mediterranean climate. Furthermore, strontium and water isotope analyses demonstrate: (1) the upslope-saline-groundwater zone (hotspot) mixes with the dominant groundwater system, (2) the intermittent-stream water is a mixture of soil-water/runoff and the upslope saline groundwater, and (3) the upslope-saline-groundwater zone results from the flushing of unsaturated-zone salts from the thick clayey regolith and soil which overlie the metamorphosed shale bedrock. The preferred theory on the origin of the upslope-saline-groundwater hotspot is land clearing of native deep-rooted woodland, followed by flushing of accumulated salts from the unsaturated zone due to increased recharge. This cause of elevated groundwater and surface-water salinity, if correct, could be widespread in Mt. Lofty Ranges areas, as well as other climatically and geologically similar areas with comparable hydrogeologic conditions. 相似文献
