A filament eruption, accompanied by a B9.5 flare, coronal dimming, and an EUV wave, was observed by the Solar TERrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) on 19 May 2007, beginning at about 13:00 UT. Here, we use observations from the SECCHI/EUVI telescopes and other solar observations to analyze the behavior and geometry of the filament before and during the eruption. At this time, STEREO A and B were separated by about 8.5°, sufficient to determine the three-dimensional structure of the filament using stereoscopy. The filament could be followed in SECCHI/EUVI 304 Å stereoscopic data from about 12 hours before to about 2 hours after the eruption, allowing us to determine the 3D trajectory of the erupting filament. From the 3D reconstructions of the filament and the chromospheric ribbons in the early stage of the eruption, simultaneous heating of both the rising filamentary material and the chromosphere directly below is observed, consistent with an eruption resulting from magnetic reconnection below the filament. Comparisons of the filament during eruption in 304 Å and Hα? show that when it becomes emissive in He II, it tends to disappear in Hα?, indicating that the disappearance probably results from heating or motion, not loss, of filamentary material. 相似文献

Organic matter from comet 81P/Wild 2, IDPs,and carbonaceous meteorites; similarities and differences

Abstract— During preliminary examination of 81P/Wild 2 particles collected by the NASA Stardust spacecraft, we analyzed seven, sulfur embedded and ultramicrotomed particles extracted from five different tracks. Sections were analyzed using a scanning transmission X‐ray microscope (SXTM) and carbon X‐ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectra were collected. We compared the carbon XANES spectra of these Wild 2 samples with a database of spectra on thirty‐four interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) and with several meteorites. Two of the particles analyzed are iron sulfides and there is evidence that an aliphatic compound associated with these particles can survive high temperatures. An iron sulfide from an IDP demonstrates the same phenomenon. Another, mostly carbon free containing particle radiation damaged, something we have not observed in any IDPs we have analyzed or any indigenous organic matter from the carbonaceous meteorites, Tagish Lake, Orgueil, Bells and Murchison. The carbonaceous material associated with this particle showed no mass loss during the initial analysis but chemically changed over a period of two months. The carbon XANES spectra of the other four particles varied more than spectra from IDPs and indigenous organic matter from meteorites. Comparison of the carbon XANES spectra from these particles with 1. the carbon XANES spectra from thirty‐four IDPs (<15 micron in size) and 2. the carbon XANES spectra from carbonaceous material from the Tagish Lake, Orgueil, Bells, and Murchison meteorites show that 81P/Wild 2 carbon XANES spectra are more similar to IDP carbon XANES spectra then to the carbon XANES spectra of meteorites. 相似文献

We explore the use of remapping techniques to improve the efficiency of highly multiplexed fibre systems for astronomical spectroscopy. This is particularly important for the implementation of diverse field spectroscopy (DFS) using highly multiplexed monolithic fibre systems (MFS). DFS allows arbitrary distributions of target regions to be addressed to optimize observing efficiency when observing complex, clumpy structures such as protoclusters which will be increasingly accessible to extremely large telescopes. We show how the adoption of various types of remapping between the input and output of an MFS can allow contiguous regions of spatial elements to be selected using only simple switch arrays. Finally, we show how this compares in efficiency with integral-field and multi-object spectroscopy by simulations using artificial and real catalogues of objects. With the adoption of these mapping strategies, DFS outperforms other techniques when addressing a range of realistic target distributions. These techniques are also applicable to biomedical science and were in fact inspired by it. 相似文献

We present a state-of-the-art scenario for newly born magnetars as strong sources of gravitational waves (GWs) in the early days after formation. We address several aspects of the astrophysics of rapidly rotating, ultra-magnetized neutron stars (NSs), including early cooling before transition to superfluidity, the effects of the magnetic field on the equilibrium shape of NSs, the internal dynamical state of a fully degenerate, oblique rotator and the strength of the electromagnetic torque on the newly born NS. We show that our scenario is consistent with recent studies of supernova remnant surrounding Anomalous X-ray Pulsars (AXPs) and Soft Gamma-Ray Repeaters (SGRs) in the Galaxy that constrains the electromagnetic energy input from the central NS to be ≤ 1051 erg. We further show that if this condition is met, then the GW signal from such sources is potentially detectable with the forthcoming generation of GW detectors up to Virgo cluster distances where an event rate ∼1 yr−1 can be estimated. Finally, we point out that the decay of an internal magnetic field in the 1016 G range couples strongly with the NS cooling at very early stages, thus significantly slowing down both processes: the field can remain this strong for at least 103 yr, during which the core temperature stays higher than several times 108 K. 相似文献

We investigate accelerated electron energy spectra for different sources in a large flare using simultaneous observations
obtained with two instruments, the Nobeyama Radio Heliograph (NoRH) at 17 and 34 GHz, and the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar
Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) at hard X-rays. This flare is one of the few in which emission up to energies exceeding 200 keV
can be imaged in hard X-rays. Furthermore, we can investigate the spectra of individual sources up to this energy. We discuss
and compare the HXR and microwave spectra and morphology. Although the event overall appears to correspond to the standard
scenario with magnetic reconnection under an eruptive filament, several of its features do not seem to be consistent with
popular flare models. In particular we find that (1) microwave emissions might be optically thick at high frequencies despite
a low peak frequency in the total flux radio spectrum, presumably due to the inhomogeneity of the emitting source; (2) magnetic
fields in high-frequency radio sources might be stronger than sometimes assumed; (3) sources spread over a very large volume
can show matching evolution in their hard X-ray spectra that may provide a challenge to acceleration models. Our results emphasize
the importance of studies of sunspot-associated flares and total flux measurements of radio bursts in the millimeter range. 相似文献

The general solution for the energy distribution of relativistic electrons in which electrons generated within the source diffuse and decay through synchrotron or Compton radiation is given for the case in which the magnetic field and the diffusion coefficient are constant. A very simple spherically symmetric model with an electron point-source at the centre is considered and the equations are explicitly solved. It is shown that notwithstanding its great simplicity this model gives a fair representation of the continuous emission of the Crab nebula from the radio to the X-ray region, with the simple assumption that it is due only to ordinary synchrotron radiation. If the central point source is identified with the pulsar there appears to be an upper limit of about 107 MeV to the energy of the electrons accelerated by the pulsar mechanism. 相似文献
