The Matachingai River basin is known among the few ophiolitic complexes on eastern Chukotka as the southern boundary of the Chukotka Fold System (in terms of tectonics, the Chukotka microcontinent or a fragment of the Arctic Alaska–Chukotka microplate). This complex comprises tectonic blocks of residual spinel harzburgite with dunite bodies and pyroxenite, olivine gabbro, and leucogabbro veins; blocks of hornblende gabbro, diorite, and plagiogranite; and Upper Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous basaltic–cherty and cherty–carbonate rocks. The geological relationships of rocks within tectonic blocks, the compositions of primary minerals, the bulk geochemistry of rocks, as well as the strontium, neodymium, and lead isotopic compositions, make it possible to consider individual tectonic blocks of the complex as fragments of a disintegrated oceanic-type lithosphere that formed in a back-arc spreading center. The melts, crystallization products of which are represented by hornblende gabbro of blocks, olivine gabbro of veins, and basalts, separated from geochemically and isotopically heterogeneous mantle. Blocks composed of rocks with various modal composition are likely relicts of an oceanic lithosphere of different segments of a back-arc basin. The studied complex may be a lithosphere of one of the Middle–Late Jurassic back-arc basins. Fragments of these basins are retained in ophiolitic complexes on Great Lyakhovsky Island of the New Siberian Islands Archipelago, western Chukotka, and the Brooks Range in Alaska.  相似文献

Despite the long history of studying metamorphic rocks in the Sredinny and Ganalsky uplifts of Kamchatka, their tectonic setting and origin, as well as the time of sedimentation, magmatism, and metamorphism, remain a matter of debate and wide discussion. Our isotopic study shows that composite sections of metaterrigenous rocks of the Sredinny and Ganalsky ranges (Kolpakova, Kamchatka, Malka, Kikhchik, and Ganal groups) reveal no significant difference in the Nd isotopic composition, which is evidence for the geochemical similarity of their provenances in contrast to previous conjectures that these groups vary in age from Archean to Upper Cretaceous and were formed in regions distant from one another and distinct in geodynamic setting. New Sm-Nd isotopic data and recent U-Pb (SHRIMP II) timing of zircons allow us to state that the metaterrigenous rocks of the Sredinny and Ganalsky uplifts actually make up a single terrigenous sequence of a great thickness. This sequence accumulated in the Cretaceous shallow-water epicontinental basin, underwent contact metamorphism affected by intrusions varying in age and composition, was involved in zonal regional metamorphism in the early Eocene, and only in the Pliocene was it dismembered into the Sredinny and Ganalsky uplifts as a result of rifting.  相似文献

The paper presents data on the petrology and geochemistry of plutonic rocks dredged from the Stalemate Fracture Zone, Northwest Pacific Ocean, during Cruise SO201-1 of the R/V “Sonne”. We proposed also the reconstruction of their formation conditions and interpretation of their tectonic evolution. The genesis of gabbroids found among plutonic rocks composing the Cretaceous-Paleogene basement of the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean was related to magmatism at the ancient spreading center and provides record of the evolution of the parental magmatic melts of N-MORB. Along with related peridotites, basalts, and dolerites, these rocks can be attributed to the disintegrated the Cretaceous-Paleogene oceanic lithosphere of the Pacific Ocean. The shallow mantle beneath the ancient oceanic crust of this area is made up of depleted magmatic spinel lherzolite, harzburgite, and dunite. The fact that gabbro-diorite and diorite that are not genetically related to the rocks of the Cretaceous-Paleogene basement of the Northwest Pacific occur at the eastern termination of the Stalemate Fracture Zone possibly reflects the complicated structure of the tectonic collage of rocks of different age that were produced in different geodynamic environments and were later tectonically brought together near the frontal portion of the Aleutian island arc. Judging by the isotopic-geochemical characteristics of these rocks, they cannot be classed with the family of oceanic plagiogranites. Deformations of the oceanic basement can be discerned throughout the whole Stalemate Fracture Zone as brecciation and large-amplitude vertical displacements within the oceanic lithosphere.  相似文献

The results of analyzing the long (20–50 years) time series of geodetic observations carried out in the regions with enhanced seismotectonic activity (Kopet Dag, Kamchatka, and California) are presented. It is established that recent vertical and horizontal displacements in the fault zones estimated by instrumental geodetic observations with increased spatiotemporal resolution indicate that the deformations in the fault zones paradoxically deviate from the movements inherited from the previous geological epochs. The paradoxes of high and low deformation rates in recent geodynamics lie in the reliably established empirical fact that extremely high local deformation rates (up to 10?5 per annum and higher) exist in the fault zones in the setting of weak regional deformations, whose annual rates are by two to three orders of magnitude lower. Very low annual average rates of relative horizontal deformations, which only measure 3–5 amplitudes of tidal deformations of the solid Earth, are revealed in the seismically active regions of Kopet Dag and Kamchatka as well as in the San Andreas Fault Zone in northern California. The fault-block dilemma arising in the interpretation of the observations of recent fault geodynamics is formulated. Either the role of active element, which forms the present anomalous deformations, is played by a block, while a fault plays the role of the passive element, or the fault zone itself is a source of anomalous movements, while the blocks are passive elements (hosting medium). It is shown that paradoxes of low and high deformation rates vanish if we assume that the recent anomalous geodynamics is formed by parametric excitation of the deformation processes in the fault zones in the conditions of quasi-static loading.  相似文献

To test whether the silicate reference glasses BAM‐S005‐A and BAM‐S005‐B from BAM (The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, Germany) are suitable materials for microanalysis, we investigated the homogeneity of these reference glasses using the microanalytical techniques EPMA, LA‐ICP‐MS and SIMS. Our study indicated that all major and most trace elements are homogeneously distributed at micrometre sampling scale in both types of glass. However, some trace elements (e.g., Cs, Cl, Cr, Mo and Ni) seem to be inhomogeneously distributed. We also determined the composition of BAM‐S005‐A and BAM‐S005‐B. The EPMA data of major elements confirmed the information values specified by the certificate. With the exception of Sr, Ba, Ce and Pb, our trace element data by LA‐ICP‐MS were also in agreement with the certified values within the stated uncertainty limits. The reasons for the discrepancy in these four elements are still unclear. In addition, we report new data for twenty‐two further trace elements, for which the concentrations were not certified. Based on our investigation, we suggest that both of these materials are suitable for many microanalytical applications.  相似文献

The existing radiometric methods for measuring the profile of the water-vapor concentration from spacecrafts are analyzed. Questions of the sensitivity of radiometric measurements to a deviation in the water-vapor concentration from the standard profile are considered. It is shown that the traditional measurements near absorption line 183 GHz have a low sensitivity to a change in the water-vapor concentration in the lower troposphere. A new differential method of humidity measurement in the lower troposphere has been proposed based on measurements near the 22-GHz line. The advantages of differential measurements near 22 GHz when compared to similar measurements in the vicinity of 183 GHz are confirmed by the results of computer simulation.  相似文献

We present new reference values for the NIST SRM 610–617 glasses following ISO guidelines and the International Association of Geoanalysts’ protocol. Uncertainties at the 95% confidence level (CL) have been determined for bulk‐ and micro‐analytical purposes. In contrast to former compilation procedures, this approach delivers data that consider present‐day requirements of data quality. New analytical data and the nearly complete data set of the GeoReM database were used for this study. Data quality was checked by the application of the Horwitz function and by a careful investigation of analytical procedures. We have determined quantitatively possible element inhomogeneities using different test portion masses of 1, 0.1 and 0.02 μg. Although avoiding the rim region of the glass wafers, we found moderate inhomogeneities of several chalcophile/siderophile elements and gross inhomogeneities of Ni, Se, Pd and Pt at small test portion masses. The extent of inhomogeneity was included in the determination of uncertainties. While the new reference values agree with the NIST certified values with the one exception of Mn in SRM 610, they typically differ by as much as 10% from the Pearce et al. (1997) values in current use. In a few cases (P, S, Cl, Ta, Re) the discrepancies are even higher.  相似文献

High-Mg, low-Ti volcanic rocks from the Manihiki Plateau in the Western Pacific share many geochemical characteristics with subduction-related boninites such as high-Ca boninites from the Troodos ophiolite on Cyprus, which are believed to originate by hydrous re-melting of previously depleted mantle. In this paper we compare the Manihiki rocks and Troodos boninites using a new dataset on the major and trace element composition of whole rocks and glasses from these locations, and new high-precision, electron microprobe analyses of olivine and Cr-spinel in these rocks. Our results show that both low-Ti Manihiki rocks and Troodos boninites could originate by re-melting of a previously depleted lherzolite mantle source (20–25% of total melting with 8–10% melting during the first stage), as indicated by strong depletion of magmas in more to less incompatible elements (Sm/Yb < 0.8, Zr/Y < 2, Ti/V < 12) and high-Cr-spinel compositions (Cr# > 0.5). In comparison with Troodos boninites, the low-Ti Manihiki magmas had distinctively lower H2O contents (< 0.2 vs. > 2 wt% in boninites), ~ 100 °C higher liquidus temperatures at a given olivine Fo-number, lower fO2 (ΔQFM < + 0.2 vs. ΔQFM > + 0.2) and originated from deeper and hotter mantle (1.4–1.7 GPa, ~ 1440 °C vs. 0.8–1.0 GPa, ~ 1300 °C for Troodos boninites). The data provide new evidence that re-melting of residual upper mantle is not only restricted to subduction zones, where it occurs under hydrous conditions, but can also take place due to interaction of previously depleted upper mantle with mantle plumes from the deep and hotter Earth interior.  相似文献
