Recent observations of the solar corona with the LASCO coronagraph on board the SOHO spacecraft have revealed the occurrence of triple helmet streamers even during solar minimum, which occasionally go unstable and give rise to particularly huge coronal mass ejections. We present a method to calculate (semi-)analytically self-consistent stationary configurations of triple helmet streamers which can serve as input for stability considerations and dynamical calculations. The method is based on an asymptotic expansion procedure using the elongated structure of the streamers. The method is very flexible and can be used in both Cartesian and spherical geometry. We discuss the effects of magnetic shear, gravity and field-aligned flow on open field lines. Example solutions illustrating the influence of each of these features on the solution structure are presented. 相似文献

Karl (1959) an den granitischen Gesteinen des Zillertal- und Großvenedigerbereiches (Hohe Tauern) und dem Tonalitmassiv des Rieserferner gezeigt, daß sich die Beobachtungen und Teilergebnisse vonBianchi trotz unterschiedlicher genetischer Auswertung gut in das Gesamtbild vonKarl einordnen lassen. Wichtig ist dafür, daß die Mehraktigkeit der alpidischen Orogenese für die Beurteilung des Verhältnisses zwischen Kristallisation und Deformation berücksichtigt wird und daß aus der zusammengefaßten Gesteinsgruppe der granodioritischen, schichtigen oder massigen Orthogneise mit normaler Biotit-reicher Facies tonalitisierte Paragneise (nachKarl Tonalitische Gneise) abgetrennt werden. Perchlorate and nitrate in vadose‐zone soil can be continuing sources of groundwater contamination and technologies for remediation of these sources are limited. Gaseous electron donor injection technology (GEDIT) is an in situ approach that was demonstrated at a site in California. A mixture of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and nitrogen was injected into the vadose zone over a period of 5 months followed by 3 months of LPG alone. Perchlorate and nitrate plus nitrite nitrogen concentrations were reduced by over 90% and both were capable of being reduced to nondetectable concentrations. Hydrogen was required for perchlorate destruction, although concentrations as low as 0.5% were effective. Hydrogen was not required for nitrate destruction. Contaminant destruction was observed in both fine‐grained and coarse‐grained soils ranging from clay to gravel. Hydrogen was an effective electron donor because of its low molecular weight and high diffusivity which likely promoted its penetration into low‐permeability formations. Contaminant destruction was also observed in moisture contents ranging from 6.8% to 36% demonstrating that GEDIT was effective in low‐ and high‐moisture soils. The radius of influence (ROI) for perchlorate destruction was approximately 3.0 to 4.6 m while that for nitrate was greater than 17 m. The ROI was limited by use of a single injection location. Use of a grid injection system is anticipated to greatly increase efficiency. This research represents the first demonstration of GEDIT for treatment of contaminants in the vadose zone. 相似文献

Stable carbon, oxygen, and strontium isotope records were obtained from uppermost Hauterivian to lowermost Aptian belemnite rostra, which were collected in well-dated sections from the Vocontian Trough (southeastern France). This data set complements previously published belemnite-isotope records from the uppermost Berriasian-Hauterivian interval from the same basin. The belemnite carbon and oxygen isotope record is compared to the carbonate bulk-rock isotope record from the same sections, and from additional Italian sections. With regards to their long-term trends, both belemnite and whole-rock δ18O records are well correlated, except for the uppermost Hauterivian-lower Barremian interval, within which they deviate. This discrepancy is interpreted to be linked to the latest Hauterivian Faraoni oceanic anoxic event and its early Barremian aftermath. The Faraoni level is characterized by enhanced sea-water stratification, probably induced by the onset of a warmer and more humid climate along the northern Tethyan margin. The early Barremian was characterized by stronger vertical sea-water mixing reflected by a decrease in density contrast between sea-surface and deeper waters. The belemnite oxygen isotope record shows a more stable evolution with smaller fluctuations than its bulk-rock counterpart, which indicates that deeper water masses were not as much subjected to density fluctuations as sea-surface water. The comparison of belemnite and bulk-rock carbon isotope records allows observing the impact of regional influence exerted by platform carbonate ooze shedding on the carbon cycle. Discrepancies in the two records are observed during time of photozoan carbonate platform growth. The strontium isotopic record shows a gradual increase from the uppermost Berriasian to the uppermost lower Barremian followed by a rapid decrease until the uppermost Barremian and a renewed small increase within the lowermost Aptian. The major inflection point in the uppermost lower Barremian appears to predate the onset in the formation of the Ontong-Java volcanic plateau. 相似文献

A key argument currently invoked to cast skepticism on certain South American sites, that suggest a first peopling of the New World by ca. 35,000 B.P., is the perplexingly low visibility of the archaeological record until 12,000 B.P. But, contrary to a popular misconception, great spatial and temporal discontinuities are common in the Old World Paleolithic settlement record. In Southern Africa, carefully controlled archaeological stratigraphies show that the now semiarid interior was unoccupied for 50,000 and more years at a time. Episodes of widespread settlement in marginal environments were relatively brief, limited to periods of substantially wetter climate, and closely linked with moist habitats. A risk-minimization model is proposed to explain these discontinuities. Plant and animal resources in the region, given a climate as dry or drier than today, were of low productivity and low reliability for unspecialized hunter-gatherers during the dry seasons of poor years. This would require large foraging territories and very wide spacing of proximal bands, so that the exchange of vital information on temporary or migratory resources was minimal. Finally, during extended droughts, fat-depleted animals provided an unsatisfactory source of food. These variables suggest that environments with low productivity and predictability were too risky for unspecialized hunter-gatherers with a pre-Upper Paleolithic technology, such as those who would have been able to enter the New World 35,000 B.P. Major spatial and temporal gaps in the New World settlement record should therefore be expected prior to the appearance of specialized Paleoindian hunter-gatherers ca. 12,000 B.P.
