The focal mechanisms of events from three micro-earthquake swarms (swarm in the years 1985/86, swarm of December 1994, and swarm of January 1997) in the epicentral area of Nový Kostel (West Bohemia region) were used as input data for stress analyses. The simple graphical method of Angelier and Mechler (1977) and inversion by the program BRUTE3 (Hardcastle and Hills, 1993) were applied to the data collections. The results of the stress analyses for the 1985/86 swarm and for the swarm of December 1994 are similar. For the January 1997 swarm, the results of the analyses differ from those for older swarms. The axis of maximum extension is oriented in the NE-SW direction and is subhorizontal, the axis of maximum compression is oriented in the NW-SE direction and perspicuously dips towards SE. These results are similar to older results of stress analyses carried out for the 1985/86 swarm (Antonini, 1988; Sonnleitner,1993). They are also consistent with most of other published results of stress analyses conducted at different sites in the western part of the Bohemian Massif. The orientation of the principal stresses confirms the sinistral strike-slip movement along the Nový Kostel-Poátky-Zwota line (the trend is about 355°) defined by the epicentres of the micro-earthquakes. The eastern tectonic limit of the Cheb Basin (and other respective parallel faults ) could be characterised by normal rather than strike-slip faulting.  相似文献

An influential body of literature suggests that economic diversity rather than specialization fuels the economic performance of regions and nations. The authors argue that this hypothesis has no universal applicability and that a more differentiated view is needed. In particular, historical specificity of the local environment and structural characteristics of regional economies should be taken into account. They focus on the effects of industrial specialization on economic performance and the vulnerability of Central European post-communist regions, namely Czech microregions with less than 200,000 inhabitants. They examine whether the economic performance and vulnerability of these regions is fuelled rather by industrial specialization or diversity when controlling for other potential determinants of regional economic performance. Their findings show that the dependence of Czech regions on manufacturing correlates with higher economic performance but also with higher regional vulnerability. In addition, industrial specialization within manufacturing was found to be instrumental for the economic performance of regions with high dependence on manufacturing. With a decreasing share of employment in manufacturing, industrial diversity rather than specialization becomes more valuable for the economic performance of Czech regions.  相似文献

The role of single-domain (SD) magnetic particles in creation of inverse magnetic fabrics is investigated on simple mathematical models using a realistic estimate for SD intrinsic susceptibility. In contrast to the fraction created by multi-domain (MD) particles, in which the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) is controlled by both the grain AMS and intensity of the preferred orientation of the particles, the AMS of the SD fraction is controlled solely by the intensity of the preferred orientation. The degree of AMS of ensemble of SD grains with a preferred orientation is therefore much higher than that of the same ensemble of MD particles implying the existence of frequent inverse magnetic fabrics. However, the occurrence of inverse magnetic fabrics due to SD particles is more the exception than the rule. Consequently, the amounts of SD particles is probably in general low. Nevertheless, the presence of SD particles in amounts insufficient to create inverse magnetic fabrics may diminish the whole rock AMS substantially. This can be one of the reasons for relatively low AMS in volcanic rocks whose magnetic particles may be really small obeying the conditions for the existence of SD particles.  相似文献

Ecological base line states for fish communities are necessary for the evaluation of ecological integrity. In Austria the fish communities of all the larger lakes are strongly influenced by human activities, like commercial fisheries, fish stocking, eutrophication or shore line degradation, and therefore these baseline states can not be developed by comparison with a natural, undisturbed lake. We developed ecological baseline states for the fish communities of the lakes Hallstättersee, Traunsee, Mondsee, Irrsee and Wallersee by reconstructing the native fish communities of these lakes from historical documents (from between 1500 to 1940). Then we classified the potential fish species of these lakes according to their ecological requirements. Finally we developed the base line states with 16 different ecological factors similar to the factors used for the ecological integrity assessment procedure for streams.

The process of reconstructing the fish communities and some advantages and disadvantages of the base line states for fish communities are discussed.  相似文献

We examine mixed layer temperatures in a global ocean general circulation model subjected to seasonally varying climatological forcing. Harmonic analysis of monthly mixed layer temperatures and climatological sea surface temperatures (SSTs) shows that, on the average, the annual harmonic accounts for 90% of the total seasonal variance in both fields, while the semiannual harmonic accounts for about 8%. The semiannual signal is mostly confined to equatorial and high-latitude regions. The model mixed layer temperatures underestimate the mean amplitude of the annual harmonic in middle latitudes (65°||10°) by about 26%, while lagging climatological SSTs by 22 days, on average. In several parameter sensitivity experiments, these differences could be reduced to as little as 12% and 12.5 days, respectively, though most of this gain occurred when the mixed layer was unrealistically shallow (mean depth less than 65 m). At least part of the differences in amplitudes and phases of the annual harmonic is linked to the uncoupled formulation of the surface heat flux, which is computed using specified and seasonally varying climatological air temperatures. In ice-free areas, seasonal amplitudes and phases of air temperatures are almost identical to those of climatological SSTs. Thus, differences between model mixed layer temperatures and climatological SSTs give rise to Newtonian relaxation to SSTs, which then leads to amplitude damping and time lags in mixed layer temperatures relative to the SSTs.  相似文献

The deterioration of buildings and monuments by gypsum is the result of crystallization cycles of this salt. Although gypsum can dehydrate to a hemihydrate, the mineral bassanite, and to an anhydrate, the mineral anhydrite, this reaction occurs in nature on a geological time scale and therefore it is unlikely to occur when gypsum is found on and in building materials. The CaSO4–H2O system appears deceptively simple, however there are still discrepancies between the experimental and thermodynamically calculated data. The reason for the latter can be attributed to the slow crystallization kinetics of anhydrite. Apart from this, the large numbers of studies carried out on this system have focused on industrially important metastable phases, such as the hemihydrate and soluble anhydrite. The paper presents a review of the studies dealing with the phase equilibria of the CaSO4–H2O system as well as the influence of other salts on the solubility of gypsum. It tries to glean out the relevant information that will serve to explain the deterioration observed on building materials by the crystallization of gypsum and thus allows developing improved conservation methods.  相似文献
