Flow pulsations in two-phase and single-phase near-critical fluids are considered as a possible source of ultra-low-frequency seismo-electromagnetic variations. The conditions for generation and suppression of density wave instability in the crust are analyzed and the surface electromagnetic effect due to streaming potential generation is estimated. The upper limit of amplitude of magnetic field variations due to density wave instability is about 0.1 nT for single-phase supercritical and 1 nT for two-phase flow oscillations in the frequency range \(10^{-4}{-}10^{-2}~\) Hz for the temperature gradients and spatial scales possible during strike slip events. The signal is characterized by a decaying amplitude with typical relaxation time of about several quasi-periods. The possibility of generation of very low-frequency flow pulsations in two-phase fluids via individual bubble evolution and interaction with external acoustic waves is discussed.  相似文献

Studies on the soil properties of the apparently flat-lying, but salt-affected Banni mudflat region of arid Kachchh in western India revealed the influence of subtle topographic variations on soil texture and nature and distribution of salts. Six master pedons were investigated to an average depth of 150 cm. The pedons on the upper surfaces showed an abundance of fine sand and a gradual impoverishment of silt and clay, as also lesser amounts of salts in the profiles. Pedons on the successively lower surfaces showed more silt and clay contents, as well as higher amounts of salts. The findings helped to identify the areas suitable for pasture development in this vast degraded rangeland, and to suggest some management practices for improvement.  相似文献

There is a lack of information in the literature regarding Tl exposure from naturally occurring Tl enrichment. This paper draws attention to the potential health risk posed by high concentrations of naturally occurring Tl in the environment. The inhabitants of a rural area in SW Guizhou Province, China, reside within a natural Tl accumulated environment resulting from Tl-rich sulfide mineralization, and they face ongoing severe Tl exposure. High Tl concentrations were detected in urine of the local residents. Urinary Tl concentrations are as high as 2668 μg/L, with most subjects surpassing the accepted world urinary Tl concentration at <1 μg/L for “non-exposed” humans. The urinary Tl concentrations show significant differences among three communities (n = 21, p = 0.001), but no significant difference in either sex or age groups (n = 21, p = 0.7806). However, there is a positive statistical relationship between the extent of Tl exposure from Tl concentrations in soil and crops in the immediate environment and the concentrations of Tl detected in urine. A majority of the volunteer subjects from the communities have urinary Tl concentrations above 4.5–6 μg/L, implying early adverse health effects, and some of them have over 500 μg/L urinary Tl, considered to be at/about the level of clinical intoxication. This study has been able to identify that the elevated urinary Tl concentrations are mainly attributable to Tl accumulation in locally grown vegetables, which acquire Tl from the soil. This study also shows that Tl in urine of the local population represents a steady-state condition with long-term exposure, and that urinary Tl concentrations can be taken as a bio-marker of total dose based upon total daily dietary intake. This study demonstrates that natural sources of elevated Tl pose a potential health risk to the population, and that monitoring the urinary Tl concentration is a reliable and accurate way of bio-marking Tl exposure.  相似文献

The granulite complex around Jenapore, Orissa, Eastern Ghats granulite belt, bears the imprint of two episodes of strong deformation (D1 and D2) attended with foliation (fabric) development (S1 and S2). Two distinct metamorphic events at P-T conditions of ∼900°C at ∼9 kbar and ∼600°C at ∼6 kbar are correlated with D1 and D2 respectively. The reaction textures in S1-microdomains are interpreted to be the product of near isobaric cooling at ∼9 kbar from 950°C to 600°C, whereas those in the S2-microdomains are considered to be the result of an up-pressure trajectory from ∼6 kbar at 600°C. The D1-M1 high P-T granulite event is interpreted to be Archean in age (ca. 3 Ga) on the basis of the isotopic data obtained from the charnockite suite of the area. The later relatively low P-T granulite facies event, attendant to D2-S2 is considered to be related to the Grenvillian orogeny as represented by the dominant isotopic record in the belt.  相似文献

The change in the type of vegetation fraction can induce major changes in the local effects such as local evaporation, surface radiation, etc., that in turn induces changes in the model simulated outputs. The present study deals with the effects of vegetation in climate modeling over the Indian region using the MM5 mesoscale model. The main objective of the present study is to investigate the impact of vegetation dataset derived from SPOT satellite by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) versus that of USGS (United States Geological Survey) vegetation dataset on the simulation of the Indian summer monsoon. The present study has been conducted for five monsoon seasons (1998–2002), giving emphasis over the two contrasting southwest monsoon seasons of 1998 (normal) and 2002 (deficient). The study reveals mixed results on the impact of vegetation datasets generated by ISRO and USGS on the simulations of the monsoon. Results indicate that the ISRO data has a positive impact on the simulations of the monsoon over northeastern India and along the western coast. The MM5-USGS has greater tendency of overestimation of rainfall. It has higher standard deviation indicating that it induces a dispersive effect on the rainfall simulation. Among the five years of study, it is seen that the RMSE of July and JJAS (June–July–August–September) for All India Rainfall is mostly lower for MM5-ISRO. Also, the bias of July and JJAS rainfall is mostly closer to unity for MM5-ISRO. The wind fields at 850 hPa and 200 hPa are also better simulated by MM5 using ISRO vegetation. The synoptic features like Somali jet and Tibetan anticyclone are simulated closer to the verification analysis by ISRO vegetation. The 2 m air temperature is also better simulated by ISRO vegetation over the northeastern India, showing greater spatial variability over the region. However, the JJAS total rainfall over north India and Deccan coast is better simulated using the USGS vegetation. Sensible heat flux over north-west India is also better simulated by MM5-USGS.  相似文献

One of the most recent applications of global positioning system (GPS) is the estimation of precipitable water vapor (PWV). It requires proper modeling to extract PWV from zenith wet delay (ZWD). The existing global models take no account of latitudinal and seasonal variation of meteorological parameters in the atmosphere. In fact, they ignore the atmospheric conditions at a specific location. Therefore, site-specific PWV models have been developed for five stations spread over the Indian subcontinent, using 3-year (2006–2008) radiosonde data from each of these stations. Furthermore, a similar regional PWV model is also developed for the Indian region. The purpose of the developed site-specific as well as regional model was to convert ZWDs into PWV without using surface meteorological parameters. It has been found that the developed regional and site-specific PWV models show about mm-level accuracy in estimating PWV using derived ZWD from radiosonde as input. The developed site-specific, regional models were also used to extract PWV from GPS-derived ZWD at Bangalore and New Delhi. The accuracy of the developed site-specific and regional model is of the same level. The PWV accuracy obtained with the developed regional model is about 6.28, 6.6 mm in comparison to radiosonde PWV at Bangalore and New Delhi, respectively.  相似文献

The role of El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the mechanism through which ENSO influences the precipitation variability over northwest India and the adjoining (NWIA) region is well documented. In this study, the relative role of North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO)/Arctic Oscillation (AO) and ENSO in modulating the Asian jet stream in the Northern Hemisphere winter and their relative impact on the precipitation variability over the region have been estimated through analysis of observed data. It is seen that interannual variations of NWIA precipitation are largely influenced by ENSO. An empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis has been carried out to understand dominant modes of interannual variability of zonal wind at 200 hPa of the Northern Hemisphere. The EOF-1 pattern in the tropical region is similar to that of an ENSO pattern, and the principal component (PC) time series corresponds to the ENSO time series. The EOF-2 spatial pattern resembles that of NAO/AO with correlation of PC time series with AO and NAO being 0.74 and 0.62, respectively. The precipitation anomaly time series over the region of interest has marginally higher correlation with the PC-2 time series as compared to that of PC-1. Regression analysis of precipitation and circulation parameters indicates a larger contribution of the second mode to variability of winds and precipitation over the NWIA. Moisture transport from the Arabian Sea during the active phase of NAO/AO and the presence of a cyclonic anomaly lead to higher precipitation over the NWIA region.  相似文献

The spatial and temporal variations in cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning and precipitation during the summer monsoon months in Korea have been analyzed in relation to the regional synoptic weather conditions. The lightning data used in this study were collected from a lightning detection network installed by the Korean Meteorological Administration, while the precipitation data were collected from 386 Automatic Weather Stations spread over the entire Korean Peninsula during 2000 to 2001. A distinctive morning peak of precipitation is observed over the midwest region of Korea. Along the east coast, little precipitation and CG flash counts are found. Despite the strong afternoon peaks of convective rainfall due to the high elevation over the southern inland region, the south coast shows nocturnal or early morning peaks, which represents a common oceanic pattern of flash counts. In 2000, the nighttime peak for lightning counts dominates over the southern area, while the afternoon peak was strong in the midland during the summer, mainly due to the northward transportation of moisture to the Korean Peninsula. Conversely, the strong afternoon peak for the southern region was confronted with early morning peaks in the midwestern region during 2001. The eastward transport of moisture has been analyzed and was considered to be dominant in 2001. The study of several warm and cold type fronts in 2000 and 2001 indicate that the warm type fronts in 2000 were associated with very little lightning, while the cold type fronts appeared to be responsible for the occurrence of abundant lightning in 2001, thereby, indicating that the warm and cold type fronts were representative of the local lightning distribution in the respective years.  相似文献
