The autocorrelation function of Faraday rotation measures is discussed in terms of different types of galactic field configurations. The autocorrelation function evaluated from published data of 139 radio galaxies and quasars is found to resemble a form typical for a quasi-longitudinal field, whereas the autocorrelation function of 38 pulsars turns out to be of the form expected for a longitudinal field. These observations are interpreted with respect to the position of the solar system relative to the neutral sheet in a quasi-longitudinal field configuration.Rotation measures calculated theoretically using a mathematical formulation of the quasi-longitudinal field model are adapted to experimental data. The resulting polarity of the global field structure is discussed in connection with the original dipole-like configuration the magnetic momentum vector of which is found to have been antiparallel to the angular momentum vector of the Galaxy. The relation between the field strength and the density of electrons is found to be consistent with earlier results. 相似文献

The active region McMath 10433 was the source of several flares and radio outbursts during the early part of July 1974. This region was tracked continuously, for several periods during the month at 22.2 GHz using a telescope with a 4 beam. Comparison with the results obtained simultaneously with a normal 7 GHz solar patrol instrument indicate that there is important burst activity occurring at levels below the detection limit of normal solar patrol instruments. The time-development morphology of these bursts is similar to those normally observed and has enabled the simple events to be re-interpreted. A completely new type of event - the fast absorption - has also been recognized. 132 soft X-ray flare events have been observed with The Aerospace Corporation/Marshall Space Flight Center S-056 X-ray telescope that was part of the ATM complement of instruments aboard Skylab. Analyses of these data are reported in this paper. The observations are summarized and a detailed discussion of the X-ray flare structures is presented. The data indicated that soft X-rays emitted by a flare come primarily from an intense well-defined core surrounded by a region of fainter, more diffuse emission. Loop structures are found to constitute a fundamental characteristic of flare cores and arcades of loops are found to play a more important role in the flare phenomena than previously thought. Size distributions of these core features are presented and a classification scheme describing the brightest flare X-ray features is proposed. The data show no correlations between the size of core features and: (1) the peak X-ray intensity, as indicated by detectors on the SOLRAD satellite; (2) the rise time of the X-ray flare event, or (3) the presence of a nonthermal X-ray component. An analysis of flare evolution indicates evidence for preliminary heating and energy release prior to the main phase of the flare. Core features are found to be remarkably stable and retain their shape throughout a flare. Most changes in the overall configuration seem to be the result of the appearance, disappearance or change in brightness of individual features, rather than the restructuring or re-orientation of these features. Non-LTE synthetic spectra derived from a detailed analysis of the formation of the CN (0, 0) λ13883 Å spectrum are compared with center-limb photoelectric spectra taken at Kitt Peak National Observatory. Kitt Peak National Observatory is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under contract with the National Science Foundation. Significant non-LTE effects are found and the Kurucz, Altrock-Cannon, Mount-Linsky II, and HSRA models are compared. We derive a solar carbon abundance of A c =8.30±0.10 for the Mount-Linsky model and A c =8.40±0.10 for the Altrock-Cannon model, compared to the HSRA value of A c =8.55±0.10, assuming a nitrogen abundance of logA N=7.93. Geopotential harmonics of order 15 and even degree,from changes in orbital eccentricity at resonance
When a satellite orbit decaying slowly under the action of air drag experiences 15th-order resonance with the Earth's gravitational field, so that the ground track repeats after 15 rev, the orbital eccentricity may suffer appreciable changes due to perturbations from the gravitational harmonics of order 15 and even degree (16, 18, 20…). In this paper the changes in eccentricity at resonance for six satellites in near-circular orbits at inclinations between 56 and 90° have been analysed to derive 11 pairs of equations linking the harmonic coefficients of order 15 and (even) degree l, in the usual notation.
