Abstract Seven back-arc rifts are recognized in the Izu-Ogasawara Arc, namely, the Hachijo, the Aogashima, the Myojin, the Sumisu, the Torishima, the Sofu and the Nishinoshima Rifts from north to south. The acoustic stratigraphy is divided into three units (Units A, B and C) based on the seismic reflection profiles crossing the rifts. The structure of the rifts systematically changes from a half-graben type to a full graben type in the back-arc rifts from the Hachijo Rift to the Torishima Rift. The Hachijo and the Aogashima Rifts have a structure of half-graben, and the Myojin Rift has both structural characteristics of a half-graben and a full graben. The Sumisu and the Torishima Rifts are an asymmetric full graben. The Sofu and the Nishinoshima Rifts have different structural characteristics from the remaining rifts, from the Hachijo Rift to the Torishima Rift. The boundary faults in the back-arc rifts from the Hachijo to the Torishima Rifts cut to Unit B. Unit B correlates with volcaniclastic sediments during pre-rift volcanism between 4 and 2 Ma. The pre-rift volcanism was probably widespread on the northern Izu-Ogasawara Arc as is the present arc volcanism. These factors suggest that the beginning of rifting is dated at some time after 2 Ma. The developing process of the rift consists of three stages; (i) a sag stage in the crust at the location of the large offset boundary fault; (ii) a stage of half-graben formation; (iii) a stage of full graben formation. The offset of the boundary faults becomes larger from the Hachijo Rift to the Torishima Rift and the east-west width of the rifts also widens to the south. This is presumably because the Hachijo Rift is an earlier rifting stage than the Sumisu and the Torishima Rifts. The more primitive structure in the rifting stage from the Torishima Rift to the Hachijo Rift is probably caused by the propagation of rifting from south to north. The structural difference between the rifts in the northern part and the Sofu and the Nishinoshima Rifts seems to be due to structural differences in the crust between the northern and the southern parts from the tectonic gap. 相似文献

The significance of variations in the sediment flux from western Scandinavia during the Cenozoic has been a matter of debate for decades. Here we compile the sediment flux using seismic data, boreholes and results from other publications and discuss the relative importance of causal agents such as tectonism, climate and climate change. Western Scandinavia, the northern British Isles and the Faeroe‐Shetland Platform were significant sediment sources during the Paleocene, which is well founded in tectonic causes related to the opening of the North Atlantic. From the Eocene and onward, variations in the sediment flux from western Scandinavia correlate better with climate and climate change. During the Eocene, sediment production was low. From the late Eocene onward, increased seasonality may have contributed to stimulating the sediment flux. Significant climatic cooling episodes correlate with Oligocene deposits in the North Sea, the post‐mid‐Miocene Molo and Kai Formations of the Norwegian Shelf, the southern North Sea delta system and large volumes of the Late Pliocene‐Holocene Naust Formation. The sediment flux from Scandinavia during the Cenozoic is in general agreement with the detrital flux to the world's oceans. Furthermore, the large variations in the size of sediment catchment areas as well as the possibility of submarine and glacial erosion must be incorporated to understand regional variations in climate driven sediment flux. 相似文献

Magnetic anomalies measured in the central to western half of the Solomon Sea, when considered with other magnetic data, reveal the existence of linear patterns. Magnetic lineation anomaly models of the Cenozoic, 65 to 0 Ma, suggest that an age between 34 and 28 Ma and a half-rate spreading speed of 5.8 cm/yr for the northern flank of a former spreading center best fits our present magnetic data in the Solomon Sea Basin. Observations were made to study the oceanographic structure of the dense water formation and its outflow from Funka Bay, Hokkaido, during early spring. The winter Funka Bay water, which was transformed from the warm water of the Tsugaru Current, due to cooling and deep convection during the winter, flowed from the bay, while forming a frontal structure. The width and inclination of the density front were about 3 n. miles and 1.4×10?2, respectively, during the early spring of 1982. These values roughly coincided with calculated values of 2.6 n. miles and 1.7×10?2 using the sill flow model proposed by Whiteheadet al. (1974). Observed current speeds and directions were also similar to those predicted by the model. The renewal time of bay water with this flow was estimated to be about 51 days, which is consistent with the results of previous studies. 相似文献

--In this paper, a finite element model for simulating long-term crustal deformation with large slipping along fault interface is developed, where a rate- and state-dependent frictional law is introduced to represent the faulting processes and frictional behaviors of fault interface. Moreover, viscous and plastic material properties are used to simulate pressure solution creep and cataclasis, respectively. Throughout the simulations on a structural model of fault-bend folds, the distributions of the stress invariants, equivalent viscous plastic strain, and the traction on the fault interface are investigated. The sequence of deformation mechanisms during movement over a ramp is discussed. It is also found that this kind of frictional model is suitable to represent the rate-dependent behavior of fault slipping due to the movement over a ramp and the tractions on fault interface for treating the low frictional problem of fault-bend folds. 相似文献

Top-of-atmosphere reflectance measured above the ocean in the visible and near infrared, after correction for molecular scattering,
may be linearly combined to retrieve surface chlorophyll-a abundance directly, without explicit correction for aerosol scattering
and absorption. The coefficients of the linear combination minimize the perturbing effects, which are modeled by a polynomial,
and they do not depend on geometry. The technique has been developed for Global Imager (GLI) spectral bands centered at 443,
565, 667, and 866 nm, but it is applicable to other sets of spectral bands. Theoretical performance is evaluated from radiation-transfer
simulations for a wide range of geophysical and angular conditions. Using a polynomial with exponents of −2, −1, and 0 to
determine the coefficients, the residual influence of the atmosphere on the linear combination is within ±0.001 in most cases,
allowing chlorophyll-a abundance to be retrieved with a root-mean-squared (RMS) error of 8.4% in the range 0.03–3 mgm−3. Application of the method to simulated GLI imagery shows that estimated and actual chlorophyll-a abundance are in agreement,
with an average RMS difference of 32.1% and an average bias of −2.2% (slightly lower estimated values). The advantage of the
method resides in its simplicity, flexibility, and rapidity of execution. Knowledge of aerosol amount and type is avoided.
There is no need for look-up tables of aerosol optical properties. Accuracy is adequate, but depends on the polynomial representation
of the perturbing effects and on the bio-optical model selected to relate the linear combination to chlorophyll-a abundance.
The sensitivity of the linear combination to chlorophyll-a abundance can be optimized, and the method can be extended to the

The occurrence and distribution of eggs and larvae of anchovy, Engraulis japonicus, in Jeju Strait, Korea from May to November 2002 were investigated, and the relationships between the abundances of anchovy eggs and larvae and the oceanographic conditions, including meteorological data, were analyzed. During the sampling periods, the anchovy eggs occurred from May to October and about 95% of total egg abundance occurred in only two months from July to August, suggesting that the main spawning season of anchovies is confirmed in summer from July and August in Jeju Strait. The spawning area of anchovies gradually moved to the southern part of the survey area with time. The predominant anchovy larvae collected in this study were mostly smaller than 16.0 mm TL. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis showed that the anchovy egg abundance in the study area depended strongly on the wind conditions, especially less than 10 m/s, and increasing water temperature. Space debris are increasing around the Earth. The observation of space debris is a key issue for the investigation and monitoring
of space environment. But the observation opportunities and the detection ability are limited in existing monostatic radar
systems. This paper proposes a bistatic radar which is composed of a transmitting station and a receiving-only station. A
carrier wave modulated by PN-PSK signals is used in combination with a VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry) recorder for
range measurement between space debris and stations. The receiving radio wave is processed on the basis of VLBI techniques.
Accordingly, the system is shown to have significant advantages over a monostatic radar. We actually formed a bistatic radar
system, and observed a satellite in order to experimentally verify the validity. The configuration of the system, data analysis

Microbial degradation of five crude oils such as Arabian light, Berri, Murban, Khafji and Minas crude oil by a pure bacterial strain,Pseudomonas sp. isolated from the sea water sampled at Kawasaki Harbor in Tokyo Bay, was studied experimentally in the enriched seawater medium.The degradation of crude oils was determined in total residual oil and in four fractions of saturated, aromatics, asphaltene and column residue by use of the column chromatography with activated alumina.The saturated fraction was shown to be most biodegradable. The aromatics followed for all five crude oils examined and the asphaltene was biodegradable to some extent. The column residue was not apparently degraded byPseudomonas sp. within 30 days. Each of Arabian light, Berri or Murban crude oil was degraded from 59 to 63.5 %, Khafji crude oil 49 % and Minas crude oil, solid at room temperature, only 33 %. Degradation rate of the five crude oils was determined to be in a range from 2.88 to 17.3 mg-oil 1–1 hr–1 or from 6.0×10–12 to 1.56×10–10 mg-oil cell–1 hr–1. Relative degradation ofn-paraffins of different carbon numbers in the saturated fraction was found to be similar regardless of carbon number for the five crude oils. 相似文献

New sections in the coversand of the Landes region, southwestern France, show at least two main depositional phases corresponding to the Upper Pleniglacial and the Lateglacial, which are separated by palaeosols. The lower palaeosol, a gleyic to histic cryosol overlying a net of sand wedges and dated to ca. 23 14C ka BP, testifies to a short occurrence of permafrost. Impeded drainage due to the frozen subsoil is assumed to be the main factor involved in lowered aeolian transport and soil formation. Pollen analysis indicates a shrub tundra‐type environment. The overlying coversand unit is associated with small transverse ridges or sheet‐like deposits, and corresponds to the maximal extension of the sands, Upper Pleniglacial in age. An incipient podzol developed on the dunes under a boreal pine forest, and has been dated to 11.5–12 14C ka BP, i.e. to the Allerød period. This has been buried by the second coversand unit during the Younger Dryas, typified by abundant denivation features and root imprints. Although preliminary, the chronology of sand deposition in the Landes region appears thus to be roughly similar to that found for the other European coversands, showing that all were the result of similar western European climatic changes, i.e. repeated episodes of increasing aridity related to the Upper Pleniglacial and the Younger Dryas episode.
