Based on petrographical data, three types of greisen have been characterized at the western border of Água Boa pluton: siderophyllite–topaz–quartz greisen (greisen 1), fluorite–phengite–quartz greisen (greisen 2) and quartz–chlorite–phengite greisen (greisen 3). Episyenites were also identified.Two fluids of independent origin interacted with the same protolith – a hornblende-biotite alkali feldspar granite – and produced both the greisens and potassic episyenite: (1) an acid, low-salinity (4–12 wt.% NaCl eq.), F-rich, relatively hot (400–350 °C) reduced aqueous-carbonic fluid (CH4–H2O–NaCl–FeCl2 ± KCl), which by immiscibility gave rise to fluid IA (aqueous) and IC (carbonic); and (2) a lower salinity (2–4 wt.% NaCl eq.) and temperature (200–150 °C) aqueous fluid (H2O–NaCl), which was responsible for all dilution processes. Fluid 1 seems to have had a magmatic-hydrothermal origin, while fluid 2 is probably surface-derived (meteoric water?). An alkaline, F-poorer and diluted equivalent of fluid IA was interpreted to have caused the episyenitization of the granite host rock as well as the formation of phengite-rich greisen 3. The continuos interaction of this fluid with the potassic episyenite produced a moderate- to high-salinity (20–24 wt.% NaCl eq.), low-temperature (200–100 °C) fluid (H2O–NaCl–CaCl2 ± KCl), leading to the formation of chlorite-rich zone of greisen 3 and late silicification of potassic episyenite.In the greisen 1, decreasing F-activity and increasing oxygen fugacity, as the system cooled down, favored the formation of a topaz-rich inner zone, which grades into a siderophyllite-rich zone outwardly. Greisen 2 was formed under more oxidizing conditions by fluids poorer in F than those trapped in the siderophyllite-rich zone.The oxidation of aqueous-carbonic fluid took place at three distinct stages: (i) below the FMQ buffer; (ii) between the FMQ and NNO buffers; and (iii) above the NNO buffer.The dissolution cavities generated during the episyenitization process increased the permeability of the altered rocks, resulting in an increase of the fluid/rock ratios at the potassic episyenite and greisen 3 sites.All these fluids were trapped under pressure conditions of <1.0 kbar, representing shallow crustal levels and are consistent with those that have been estimated for the Pitinga tin–granites.The oxygen fugacity, F-activity gradients and salinity variations that occurred during the cooling of the hydrothermal system, in addition to differences in permeability, were important factors in the formation of distinct greisens. They not only controlled the fluid compositional changes, but also caused the cassiterite and sulfide precipitation at the greisen sites.  相似文献

Two classes of high-energy sources, the Soft Gamma Repeaters and the Anomalous X-ray Pulsars are believed to contain slowly spinning “magnetars,” i.e. neutron stars the emission of which derives from the release of energy from their extremely strong magnetic fields (>1015 G). The enormous energy liberated in the 2004 December 27 giant flare from SGR 1806-20 (~5×1046 erg), together with the likely recurrence time of such events, points to an internal magnetic field strength of ≥1016 G. Such strong fields are expected to be generated by a coherent α?Ω dynamo in the early seconds after the Neutron Star (NS) formation, if its spin period is of a few milliseconds at most. A substantial deformation of the NS is caused by such fields and, provided the deformation axis is offset from the spin axis, a newborn millisecond-spinning magnetar would thus radiate for a few days a strong gravitational wave signal the frequency of which (~0.5–2 kHz range) decreases in time. This signal could be detected with Advanced LIGO-class detectors up to the distance of the Virgo cluster, where ≥1 yr?1 magnetars are expected to form. Recent X-ray observations revealed that SNRs around magnetar candidates do not appear to have received a larger energy input than in standard SNRs (see Vink and Kuiper, Mon. Not. Roy. Astron. Soc. 319, L14 (2006)). This is at variance with what would be expected if the spin energy of the young, millisecond NS were radiated away as electromagnetic radiation and/or relativistic particle winds. In fact, such energy would be transferred quickly and efficiently to the expanding gas shell. This may thus suggest that magnetars did not form with the expected very fast initial spin. We show here that these findings can be reconciled with the idea of magnetars being formed with fast spins, if most of their initial spin energy is radiated through GWs. In particular, we find that this occurs for essentially the same parameter range that would make such objects detectable by Advanced LIGO-class detectors up to the Virgo Cluster. If our argument holds for at least a fraction of newly formed magnetars, then these objects constitute a promising new class of gravitational wave emitters.  相似文献

The repeated solution in time of the linear system arising from the finite element integration of coupled consolidation equations is a major computational effort. This system can be written in either a symmetric or an unsymmetric form, thus calling for the implementation of different preconditioners and Krylov subspace solvers. The present paper aims at investigating when either a symmetric or an unsymmetric approach should be better used. The results from a number of representative numerical experiments indicate that a major role in selecting either form is played by the preconditioner rather than by the Krylov subspace method itself. Two other important issues addressed are the size of the time integration step and the possible lumping of the flow capacity matrix. It appears that ad hoc block constrained preconditioners provide the most robust algorithm independently of the time step size, lumping, and symmetry. A new algorithm is developed for long-term integrations of the N-body problem. The method uses symplectic integrations of the Hamiltonian equations of motion for each body. This allows one to employ individual adaptive time-steps in computations. The efficiency of this technique is demonstrated by several tests performed for typical problems of Solar System dynamics.  相似文献

In Ireland there is no national shoreline management policy. Instead, management involves a series of actions at the local authority (County) level that respond to local demands, politics and economics within only a broad legal framework. Through the COREPOINT project, University of Ulster scientists have been working with local authority officials in Donegal to bring a scientific understanding of coastal processes to bear on practical management. Experience at several sites has shown significant changes in practice as a result of this interaction, compared to the previous situation when rock armouring was the favoured response to coastal erosion. We argue that achieving sustainable approaches to coastal management in a policy vacuum relies on a combination of (i) commitment to these approaches by local officials, (ii) low levels of public pressure for action, and (iii) limited financial resources. A change in any one of these is likely to lead to unsustainable actions. While close co-operation with scientists can help management in the absence of a coherent policy, only a formal regulatory instrument can deliver sustainable shoreline management.  相似文献

Capacity building has been a much promoted principle of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) since its advent beginning in the 1970’s. Although the concept of capacity building includes human resource development, organizational development and institutional and legal framework development, in practice it has often become focussed on the transfer of technical knowledge and procedures to managers and decision makers. The effect of this is often to emphasise and promote sectoral approaches rather than a holistic one as advocated by ICZM. Experiences gained during the EU Intereg IIIB COREPOINT project led to the development of a training programme that progressively reduced its formal lecture-style content and increased opportunity for discussion and delegate participation. It also produced a more uniform and systematic style and structure to presentations, in particular the case studies illustrating the eight EU ICZM principles of best practice, and embedded the ICZM principles and European perspectives of coastal management within the context of the work environment.This paper reviews methods for practitioner-oriented capacity building, and details the evolution of a training course to sensitise and familiarise coastal practitioners with the principles and practices of ICZM, working from local to national to trans-national scales. The lessons learnt from the ICZM capacity development in COREPOINT are identified and it is suggested that these are relevant and applicable to many other ICZM initiatives.  相似文献

We present the results of three-dimensional gas-dynamical simulations of matter flows in semi-detached binaries after termination of the mass transfer between the components of the system. The structure of the residual accretion disk is studied. When the mass transfer has ended, the quasi-elliptical disk becomes circular and its structure changes: tidal interactions result in the formation of a second arm in the spiral shock wave. In addition, a condensation (blob) moving through the disk with variable velocity is formed. The blob is maintained by interactions with the arms of the spiral shock and exists essentially over the entire lifetime of the disk. We also show that, for a viscosity corresponding to α~0.01 (typical for observed accretion disks), the lifetime of the residual disk is about 50 orbital periods.  相似文献

Inferences on the rheology of the mantle based on theoretical and experimental rate equations for steady state creep are discussed and compared with results from geophysical models. The radial increase of viscosity by one to three orders of magnitude across the mantle, required by inversion of postglacial rebound and geodynamic data, is confirmed by microphysical models based on the estimation of continuous and discontinuous changes of creep parameters with depth. The upper mantle (viscosity 1020–1021 Pa s) is likely to show non-Newtonian rheology (power-law creep) for average grain sizes larger than 0.1 mm as an order of magnitude. Given the variability of both grain size and stress conditions, local regions of linear rheology can be present. The rheology of transition zone and lower mantle (viscosity 1022–1024 Pa s) cannot be definitely resolved at present. Estimation of creep parameters leads to possible nonlinear or mixed rheology, if grain sizes are not lower than 0.1 mm and flow conditions can be approximated by a constant strain rate of about 10−15 s−1. This conclusion can be modified by different flow conditions (e.g. a decrease in strain rate or constant viscous dissipation). Furthermore, experiments on fine-grained garnetites and perovskite analogues have shown that diffusion creep is predominant at laboratory conditions. However, the pressure dependence of creep in these phases is unknown, and therefore direct extrapolation to lower mantle conditions is necessarily speculative. Lateral variations of viscosity, largest in the upper and lowermost mantle (up to 2–4 orders of magnitude) are predicted by models based on lateral temperature anomalies derived from seismic tomographic models.  相似文献

Young-of-the-year (YOY) oysters (Crassostrea virginica) in the Gulf of Mexico mature sexually and spawn in their first year. This study determined whether YOY oysters in the southeastern United States also mature and spawn in their first year. In 1991 and 1993, 300 YOY oysters were marked in May and 20–30 were sampled in subsequent months along with 20 adult controls. Two sites were chosen in 1991 (House Creek and Skidaway River) and one in 1993 (Skidaway River). At House Creek, YOY oysters were mature and spawned in September. YOY oysters at Skidaway spawned in October. Adult oysters did not appear to spawn in 1991. In 1993, the adult oysters spawned in August and September whereas, the YOY oysters spawned heavily in October. Oyster recruitment in coastal Georgia extends through October. The potential contribution of YOY oysters to this late season set is substantial, given that the YOY oysters are relatively large (≈4 cm) and are found in greater numbers than the adults. Oysters are capable of having two, if not more, generations within one year, prior to exposure of disease-causing organisms. Also, this particular reproductive strategy would increase the oysters suitability as a test subject in population genetic studies.  相似文献
