The recent acquisition of high-quality seismic refraction data in the Jordan—Dead Sea rift and adjacent areas has made possible the investigation of the dynamic properties of seismic P-waves refracted and reflected at the crust—upper mantle boundary.

These waves cause high-amplitude arrivals near the outer cusp of the travel-time curve which are followed by an abrupt decrease in amplitudes at increasing distances beyond the cusp.

It has been shown that such amplitude distributions can only be the result of a smooth rapid increase of velocity with depth. In the case of the Jordan—Dead Sea rift the amplitude distribution indicates the presence of a transition zone between the lower crust and upper mantle in which the velocity increases smoothly. The interpretation of seismic refraction data in the Rhinegraben indicates the existence of a similar transition zone. In both rifts the crust—mantle boundary outside the rift is represented by sharp velocity discontinuity.

The comparison of the velocity structure of the crust—upper mantle boundary suggests that a smooth transition zone at the base of the lower crust is a characteristic property of continental rifts which could be interpreted in terms of crust—mantle interaction.  相似文献

The first observations of molybdenite in a meteorite have been made in two CaAl-rich inclusions in the Allende chondrite. The mineral occurs as single individuals completely enclosed in high Ni metal (62–64.5 wt. % Ni). The association with refractories is consistent with thermodynamic calculations which predict that Mo is a high temperature condensate even when nucleation constraints are imposed on the formation of a metal phase. Kinetic factors (including nucleation constraints) appear to have played an important role in the formation of molybdenite and the associated sulfides, magnetite and high nickel metal.  相似文献

For the first time, a new approach to petroleum systems analysis is presented which allows full integration of tectonic and palinspastic restoration with three-dimensional (3D), PVT-controlled, multi-component, three-phase petroleum migration analysis through time. A systematic modeling study has been applied to a study area dominated by fold and thrust belts located in the Sub Andean orogeny near Tarija, Bolivia. The project has been performed with a special focus on the simulation technique and on the correct distribution of temperature, source-rock maturity and pressure development through time with reference to its input data. This is the first pilot project presenting a 3D numerical model in a compressional structural regime to which the basin modeling approach has been applied to explain the observed distribution of temperature, pressure, maturity and petroleum accumulations in general.  相似文献

A well crystallized and homogeneous specimen of lizardite from Monte Fico, Elba, Italy, has been studied by Mössbauer and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometries. One of the aims was the determination of the oxidation state and the distribution of iron in the structure of this reference sample. Mössbauer data indicate the presence of octahedral ferrous iron, octahedral ferric iron and tetrahedral ferric iron (59.9, 31.3 and 8.8% of total iron, respectively). The existence of only one octahedral site, previously suggested by X-ray structure refinement, is confirmed. The occurrence of tetrahedrally coordinated iron is indicated also by FTIR spectrometry, in particular by the presence of an absorption band at 790 cm–1. Based also on new electron microprobe data, the improved crystal chemical formula for lizardite from Monte Fico is: (Mg2.74Fe2+ 0.10Fe3+ 0.05Al0.11)Σ=3.00 ?· (Si1.94Al0.05Fe3+ 0.01)Σ=2.00O5.05(OH)3.95.  相似文献
