Research on the effect of temperature changes on the behaviour of geomaterials has become increasingly important in recent years. This growing interest is partially due to the recent development of high-level nuclear waste disposals. Because of the complex influence of temperature in these areas, it is necessary to understand the effects of temperature on rock-like materials and use the appropriate constitutive equations to numerically model these phenomena. In this paper, a thermoplastic/viscoplastic constitutive model is developed for this purpose. The model includes thermal softening, the evolution of the yield functions with temperature, and the effects of temperature on the time-dependent behaviour. The model performance is demonstrated by some simple test cases on Tournemire and Bure clayey rocks including triaxial compression tests and creep tests under constant temperatures. The numerical results are discussed using experimental data, which demonstrate that the model can reproduce the overall behaviour of this type of materials under deviatoric loads and non-isothermal conditions. 相似文献
Some classic expansions of the elliptic motion — cosmE and sinmE — in powers of the eccentricity are extended to highly eccentric orbits, 0.6627...<e<1. The new expansions are developed in powers of (e–e*), wheree* is a fixed value of the eccentricity. The coefficients are given in terms of the derivatives of Bessel functions with respect to the eccentricity. The expansions have the same radius of convergence (e*) of the extended solution of Kepler's equation, previously derived by the author. Some other simple expansions — (a/r), (r/a), (r/a) sinv, ..., — derived straightforward from the expansions ofE, cosE and sinE are also presented. 相似文献
The unified model for Seyfert 2s postulates that these galaxies are in fact normal Seyfert ls whose innermost regions are hidden from a direct view by an opaque torus. Galaxies seen from a line-of-sight within the opening angle of this torus have the central continuum source and the Broad Line Region unobstructed, and are classified as Seyfert 1/QSO. In Seyfert 2s, on the other hand, periscopic views of the hidden nucleus may be obtained through scattering of the nuclear light in the extranuclear regions. If this model is correct, the Blue and Featureless Continuum observed in many Seyfert 2s is simply a mirror image of the obscured nucleus. In this case, the light from the Broad Line Region must also be reflected towards the observer. Seyfert 2s should therefore exhibit broad lines in their spectrum, which, by definition, they do not! In this contribution we examine this issue and the complications it brings to the basic unification picture of Seyfert galaxies. We fail to find a consistent explanation for this question in the framework of the unified model. An alternative modified-unified model for Seyfert 2s is proposed. 相似文献
The aim of this paper was to study the elemental composition of sediments in the Amazon ecosystem by comparing bottom samples from the shelf with those from the floodplain of the Rio Amazonas. Trace elements measured by neutron activation analysis were used. The system is divided into three parts: the basin, including tributaries from the pre-Andean region to Óbidos; the delta—plain region between Óbidos and the mouth; and the continental shelf. Significant correlation was found between the shelf and floodplain sediments, especially those samples close to the mouth. In the shelf surface samples, Ta, Eu, La, and Ce (in this order) have the lowest coefficients of variation in concentration, whereas Hf, Br, and Cs have the greatest. 相似文献
The macrobenthos of two exposed tropical sandy beaches in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) were compared in relation to density, species richness, and vertical zonation. Biological and sediment samplings were carried out in the austral winter of 2002 and the austral summer of 2003. The sampling design consisted of 10 transects perpendicular to the water line, evenly divided into strata. A sampling unit was taken in each stratum with a 0.04 m2 quadrat sampler. Beaches were also compared according to physical features, such as slope, wave period, wave height, and grain size. According to Dean's Ω morphodynamic index the Pontal is a dissipative beach while the Costa Azul is a reflective one. The mean grain size ranged from median to coarse sand in Costa Azul, whereas in Pontal it ranged from median to very fine sand. Eleven species were collected in the two beaches. Crustaceans were the dominant in the Costa Azul Beach, while the polychaete Scolelepis squamata dominated the Pontal beach. A negative correlation was found between the density of the macrobenthos and mean grain size, and beach slope. On the other hand, the Dean's parameter correlated positively with faunal density. Based on the results of ANOSIM, in both beaches, two groups of stations were identified, defining an upper and a lower beach zone along the vertical distribution of the macrobenthos. 相似文献
Environmental stable and radioactive isotopes (δ2H, δ13C, δ18O; 3H and 14C), together with physical and geochemical data, were used in the determination of the origins of groundwater salinization and geochemical evolution processes in coastal regions. Two case studies on the Atlantic Coast are discussed, one located in the Essaouira sedimentary basin, western Morocco, and the second, in the Lower Tagus–Sado sedimentary basin, southwest Portugal. In both regions, groundwater degradation occurs by salinization increase to different concentrations and in relation to different origins. The main quality issues for the groundwater resources are related to seawater intrusion, dissolution of diapiric structures intruding the aquifer layers, brine dissolution at depth, and/or evaporation of irrigation water. Anthropogenic pollution ascribed to agricultural activities is another source for groundwater degradation, affecting mainly the shallow aquifers. The apparent 14C age of the analysed samples ranges from 2.9?±?0.3 up to 45.6?±?0.6 pmC in the Miocene groundwater samples from the basin in Portugal; at the Essaouira basin in Morocco, the 14C content varies from 60 to 86 pmC. In most of the water samples, the 3H concentration is below the detection limit. In both basins, the isotopic results together with the geochemical data provided an effective label for tracing the mineralization origin and groundwater degradation processes. Further, the isotopic signatures were used in the identification of a paleoclimate (colder period), recorded in the stable isotopic composition and corroborated with the 14C data. 相似文献
Various methods have been used to model the time-varying curves within the global positioning system (GPS) position time series. However, very few consider the level of noise a priori before the seasonal curves are estimated. This study is the first to consider the Wiener filter (WF), already used in geodesy to denoise gravity records, to model the seasonal signals in the GPS position time series. To model the time-varying part of the signal, a first-order autoregressive process is employed. The WF is then adapted to the noise level of the data to model only those time variabilities which are significant. Synthetic and real GPS data is used to demonstrate that this variation of the WF leaves the underlying noise properties intact and provides optimal modeling of seasonal signals. This methodology is referred to as the adaptive WF (AWF) and is both easy to implement and fast, due to the use of the fast Fourier transform method.
Some recent research on fluvial processes suggests the idea that some hydrological variables, such as flood flows, are upper-bounded.
However, most probability distributions that are currently employed in flood frequency analysis are unbounded to the right.
This paper describes an exploratory study on the joint use of an upper-bounded probability distribution and non-systematic
flood information, within a Bayesian framework. Accordingly, the current PMF maximum discharge appears as a reference value
and a reasonable estimate of the upper-bound for maximum flows, despite the fact that PMF determination is not unequivocal
and depends strongly on the available data. In the Bayesian context, the uncertainty on the PMF can be included into the analysis
by considering an appropriate prior distribution for the maximum flows. In the sequence, systematic flood records, historical
floods, and paleofloods can be included into a compound likelihood function which is then used to update the prior information
on the upper-bound. By combining a prior distribution describing the uncertainties of PMF estimates along with various sources
of flood data into a unified Bayesian approach, the expectation is to obtain improved estimates of the upper-bound. The application
example was conducted with flood data from the American river basin, near the Folsom reservoir, in California, USA. The results
show that it is possible to put together concepts that appear to be incompatible: the deterministic estimate of PMF, taken
as a theoretical limit for floods, and the frequency analysis of maximum flows, with the inclusion of non-systematic data.
As compared to conventional analysis, the combination of these two concepts within the logical context of Bayesian theory,
contributes an advance towards more reliable estimates of extreme floods. 相似文献
The Southern Brazilian Shelf (SBS) is a freshwater-influenced region, but studies on the dynamics of coastal plumes are sparse and lack in space-time resolution. Studies on the dynamics of the Patos Lagoon plume are even more limited. The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of the principal physical forcing for the formation and behavior of the Patos Lagoon coastal plume. The study is carried out through 3D numerical modeling experiments and empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis. Results showed that the amount of freshwater is the principal physical forcing controlling the plume formation. The Coriolis effect enhances the northward transport over the shelf, while the tidal effects contribute to intensify horizontal and vertical mixing, which are responsible for spreading the freshwater over the shelf. The wind effect, on the other hand, is the main mechanism controlling the behavior of the Patos Lagoon coastal plume over the inner SBS in synoptic time scales. Southeasterly and southwesterly winds contribute to the northeastward displacement of the plume, breaking the vertical stratification of the inner continental shelf. Northeasterly and northwesterly winds favor ebb conditions in the Patos Lagoon, contributing to the southwestward displacement of the plume enhancing the vertical stratification along and across-shore. The EOF analysis reveals two modes controlling the variability of the plume on the surface. The first mode (explaining 70% of the variability) is associated to the southwestward transportation of the plume due to the dominance of north quadrant winds, while the second mode (explaining 19% of the variability) is associated to the intermittent migration of the plume northeastward due to the passage of frontal systems over the area. Large scale plumes can be expected during winter and spring months, and are enhanced during El Niño events. 相似文献
