We present a software package for combining three monochromatic images of an astronomical object into a trichromatic color image. We first discuss the meaning of true colors in astronomical images. We then describe the different steps of our method, choosing the relevant dynamic intensity range in each filter, inventorying the different colors, optimizing the color map, modifying the balance of colors, and enhancing contrasts at low intensity levels. The implementation of neoliberal economic reforms with its resultant effects on rural agricultural economies has facilitated the migration of young girls from northern to southern Ghana to seek for alternative livelihoods in the urban informal economy as head porters (Kayayei). Using semi-structured questionnaires and interviews with 45 Kayayei in Makola and Agbogbloshie Markets, Accra, this study examines how migration as a livelihood strategy contributes to an improvement in the living conditions of young girls and their families. The paper also looks more closely into the pathways through which the livelihoods of these young female migrants may contribute to local economic development. The study highlights that Kayayei contribute to local economic development through market exchange and revenue generation, also there is significant perceived positive impact of head portering on standard of living of these young girls through improved access to income, health care and asset accumulation while their families benefit from remittances. The study concludes by advocating for the need to provide access to credit and skills training in enhancing the livelihood of Kayayei. 相似文献

Episodic and localized illite mineralization is documented in the hydrothermally altered Soultz-sous-Forêts granite (Upper Rhine Graben, France). Separated grain-size fractions of altered granite and argillite vein samples contain mixtures of 2M1 and 1M trans-vacant illite varieties. The platy pseudohexagonal 2M1 illite phases dominate the vein fillings, whereas the 1M illite occurs largely as a fibrous pore-filling variety, which is particularly abundant in the granite matrix. Multiple phases of fluid injections into the granite body have resulted in different illite assemblages, each sample containing a mixture of polytype generations formed during different crystal growth events. On the basis of mineralogical and K–Ar isotopic constraints, the ages of these vein-mineralizing events are determined by plotting the K–Ar values of the various grain-size fractions against polytype abundance and the fitted volume-weighted crystallite thickness distributions. The results suggest a Permian age for the formation of the studied argillite veins, characterized by successive injections of hydrothermal fluids. Secondary episodes of illite crystallization occurred during Jurassic and Cretaceous (or even younger times) in both the veins and the granite matrix. There are indications that the polytype structure and composition of illite were strongly influenced by variations in fluid chemistry and the degree of fluid–rock interaction as the granite was progressively sealed during post-Variscan, episodic hydrothermal activity. 相似文献

The effect of bidirectional flow on tidal channel planforms 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Salt marsh tidal channels are highly sinuous. For this project, ?eld surveys and aerial photographs were used to characterize the planform of tidal channels at China Camp Marsh in the San Francisco Bay, California. To model the planform evolution, we assume that the topographic curvature of the channel centreline is a key element driving meander migration. Extraction of curvature data from a planimetric survey, however, presents certain problems because simple calculations based on equally distanced points on the channel axis produce numerical noise that pollutes the ?nal curvature data. We found that a spline interpolation and a polynomial ?t to the survey data provided us with a robust means of calculating channel curvature. The curvature calculations, combined with data from numerous cross‐sections along the tidal channel, were used to parameterize a computer model. With this model, based on recent theoretical work, the relationship between planform shape and meander migration as well as the consequences of bidirectional ?ow on planform evolution have been investigated. Bank failure in vegetated salt marsh channels is characterized by slump blocks that persist in the channel for several years. It is therefore possible to identify reaches of active bank erosion and test model predictions. A Mexican opal from the state of Jalisco has a bidisperse, perfectly ordered structure with framboid silica lepispheres of two different diameters. Its structure has been determined by the observation of a vicinal section, close to a dense plane. Fresh breaks along a vicinal plane emphasized regular steps, which were studied by means of SEM. We have been able to propose unit cell models, theoretical positions of the two sets of spheres, and probable space group, P63/mmc. This structure arranges similarly to that of a diatomic compound having an AB2 stoichiometry and corresponds to a cubic (MgCu2-type) or hexagonal (MgZn2-type) Laves phase. This paper describes the experience of the Elf company regarding produced water treatment and disposal in the North Sea. It focuses on three fields where difficulties were faced: it evaluates the various treatment techniques used (plate separators, hydrocyclones, vapour stripping units, injection into a disposal well), the reasons for the problems encountered during the life of these fields and the efforts made to obtain a satisfactory quality of the produced water discharged. The contribution of recent or new technologies put on the market is discussed. It shows that, because of the nature of the effluents to be treated, and the fact that produced water characteristics depend largely on upstream treatment and processes, it is still very difficult to anticipate the correct design of an installation or to extrapolate from laboratory tests. For these reasons and others, the improvement of performance requires extensive effort by operators, process and design engineers in order to improve the quality of effluent discharged. Finally, it expounds the limits of the efforts made by industry to reduce the quantity of hydrocarbons released into the sea or to comply with present regulations. It emphasizes that not only costs are to be taken into account but also the adverse consequences of a further reduction of the limit for discharges, if this should happen. Such a measure would to the use of techniques which, in many cases, would increase the total impact of the produced water treatment and the human risk. 相似文献

Thirty-two flows (247 cores) were sampled in the V1 (Geotimes) and V2 (Lasail) volcanic units of the Semail ophiolite, Oman (Aswad, Fizh, Hilti, Sarami, Wuqbah, and Tayin massifs). Paleomagnetic analysis of the samples was complicated by a large overlap of the two components of magnetization carried by the rocks: a crystalline remanent magnetization (CRM) acquired in the present day field, probably during weathering, and an older CRM probably produced by oxidation of the original titanomagnetites during hydrothermal event(s). If the magnetization carried by the V1 samples was acquired during the hydrothermal event related to the emplacement of these lava, e.g., during and/or shortly after cooling, the tectonic unity of the northern domain has to be questioned and a differential rotation considered between the Aswad and Hilti-Sarami massifs but, by the time of emplacement of the V2 series, this northern area seems to behave as one large unit. As only one set of data is available for the southern Tayin-Sumail massif, it is premature but a possible relative rotation on the order of 90° can be suspected between the Hilti-Sarami and Tayin-Sumail massifs, rotation which would have occurred after emplacement of the V2 series. 相似文献

A method to build synthetic hydrographs is introduced, based on 1300 gauging stations in France and Switzerland, covering a wide range of size and climatology. For each station, an average of two floods per year are selected by a peak-over-threshold method, providing about 69?000 hydrographs. For a given catchment, some “donor stations” are selected with criteria of proximity in space, size and runoff production. These donors provide hundreds of hydrographs which can complement the ones recorded locally, or replace them if no hydrograph is available. With this subset of hydrographs, one can estimate the catchment’s average peak-to-volume ratio of floods, and build the corresponding median hydrograph. Another application is, for a given daily discharge sequence (being observed or simulated), to generate a relevant synthetic hydrograph by combining appropriate hydrographs of the subset. These methods are assessed by performing a jack-knife validation on a wide dataset of stations. 相似文献
