Fragments in the size range from 40 μm to several hundred μm in the CI chondrites Orgueil, Ivuna, Alais, and Tonk show a wide range of chemical compositions with variations in major elements such as iron (10.4-42.4 wt% FeO), silicon (12.7-42.2 wt% SiO2), and sulfur (1.01-15.8 wt% SO3), but also important minor elements such as phosphorous (up to 5.2 wt% P2O5) or calcium (up to 6.6 wt% CaO). These variations are the result of the varying mineralogical compositions of these fragments. The distribution of phyllosilicates, magnetites, and possibly ferrihydrite, in particular, control the abundances of these elements. High REE contents—up to 150 times the solar abundances—were observed in phosphates, while matrix and sulfates are REE-depleted. The studied 113 fragments were subdivided into eight lithologies with similar mineralogical and thus chemical properties. The most common is the CGA lithology, consisting of a groundmass of Mg-rich, coarse-grained phyllosilicates and varying abundances of inclusions such as magnetite. The second most abundant lithology is the FGA lithology, consisting of a groundmass of fine-grained Fe-rich phyllosilicates. A rare, but important lithology consists of fragments with high contents of phosphates and other minerals. The proposed model for the evolution of these lithologies is based on a closed system alteration, where mineralogical differences in the lithologies reflect heterogeneities in the starting material. Comparison of our results with literature data indicates a general similarity of the four CI chondrites analyzed. Further comparison of bulk analyses suggests that the mass ‘threshold’ for chemical heterogeneities in CI chondrite samples is smaller than ∼1-2 g.  相似文献

The ability to directly remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere allows the decoupling of emissions and emissions control in space and time. We ask the question whether this unique feature of carbon dioxide removal technologies fundamentally alters the dynamics of climate mitigation pathways. The analysis is performed in the coupled energy-economy-climate model ReMIND using the bioenergy with CCS route as an application of CDR technology. BECCS is arguably the least cost CDR option if biomass availability is not a strongly limiting factor. We compare mitigation pathways with and without BECCS to explore the impact of CDR technologies on the mitigation portfolio. Effects are most pronounced for stringent climate policies where BECCS is a key technology for the effectiveness of carbon pricing policies. The decoupling of emissions and emissions control allows prolonging the use of fossil fuels in sectors that are difficult to decarbonize, particularly in the transport sector. It also balances the distribution of mitigation costs across future generations. CDR is not a silver bullet technology. The largest part of emissions reductions continues to be provided by direct mitigation measures at the emissions source. The value of CDR lies in its flexibility to alleviate the most costly constraints on mitigating emissions.  相似文献

A recrystallized band of pale feldspathic impact melt in a gneissic impact breccia from the approximately 10 km Paasselkä impact structure in southeast Finland was dated via 40Ar/39Ar step‐heating. The newly obtained plateau age of 228.7 ± 1.8 (2.2) Ma (2σ) (MSWD = 0.32; p = 0.93) is equal to the previously published pseudoplateau age of 228.7 ± 3.0 (3.4) (2σ) for the impact event. According to the current international chronostratigraphic chart and using the most recent published suggestions for the K decay constants, a Carnian (Late Triassic) age for the Paasselkä impact structure of 231.0 ± 1.8 (2.2) Ma (2σ) is calculated and considered the most precise and accurate age for this impact structure. The new plateau age for Paasselkä confirms the previous dating result but is, based on its internal statistics, much more compelling.  相似文献

Four procedures of specifying model initial temperature were described and tested in the present study. It was found that the use of observed temperatures along with a proper vertical interpolation scheme was not only acceptable, but produced less error than the use of temperatures derived from geopotential height through the hydrostatic equation did. Use of the difference form of the hydrostatic equation would produce unacceptable errors in the initial temperatures, unrealistic horizontal and vertical distribution of temperature, and these errors would influence the calculation of the pressure gradient force, resulting in substantial, artificial disturbances within the model domain.In addition, an approach to check the initial data was described. Taking advantage of the fact that the geostrophic wind in sigma coordinates should be nondivergent, geopotential height and temperature were used to calculate the pressure gradient force terms and an initial divergence of the geostrophic wind. This approach can he used for comparing different initialization schemes for identical input data.  相似文献

Observations of ozone on Mars were made using the Goddard Space Flight Center's Infrared Heterodyne Spectrometer and Heterodyne Instrument for Planetary Wind and Composition at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility. Ozone is an important observable tracer of martian photochemistry. Infrared heterodyne spectroscopy with spectral resolution ?106 is the only technique that directly measures ozone in the martian atmosphere from the surface of the Earth. Ozone column abundances down to the martian surface were acquired in seven data sets taken between 1988 and 2003 at various orbital positions (LS=40°, 74°, 102°, 115°, 202°, 208°, 291°). Ozone abundances are compared with those retrieved using ultraviolet techniques, showing good agreement. Odd hydrogen (HOX) chemistry predicts anticorrelation of ozone and water vapor abundances. Retrieved ozone abundances consistently show anticorrelation with corresponding water vapor abundances, providing strong confirmation of odd hydrogen activity. Deviation from strict anticorrelation between the observed total column densities of ozone and water vapor suggests that constituent vertical distribution is an additional, significant factor.  相似文献

Since May 2003, the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE), one of the analysis centers of the International GNSS Service, has generated GPS and GLONASS products in a rigorous combined multi-system processing scheme, which promises the best possible consistency of the orbits of both systems. The resulting products, in particular the satellite orbits and clocks, are easily accessible by the user community. In the first part of this article, we focus on the generation of the combined global products at CODE, where we put emphasis not only on accuracy, but also on completeness. We study the impact of GLONASS on the CODE products, and the benefit of using them. Last, but not least, we introduce AGNES (Automated GNSS Network for Switzerland), a regional tracking network of small extensions (roughly 400 km East–West, 200 km North–South), which consequently tracks all GNSS satellites and analyzes their measurements using the CODE products.  相似文献

Early marine diagenetic dolomite is a rather thermodynamically-stable carbonate phase and has potential to act as an archive of marine porewater properties. However, the variety of early to late diagenetic dolomite phases that can coexist within a single sample can result in extensive complexity. Here, the archive potential of early marine dolomites exposed to extreme post-depositional processes is tested using various types of analyses, including: petrography, fluid inclusion data, stable δ13C and δ18O isotopes, 87Sr/86Sr ratios, and U-Pb age dating of various dolomite phases. In this example, a Triassic carbonate platform was dissected and overprinted (diagenetic temperatures of 50 to 430°C) in a strike-slip zone in Southern Spain. Eight episodes of dolomitization, a dolostone cataclasite and late stage meteoric/vadose cementation were recognized. The following processes were found to be diagenetically relevant: (i) protolith deposition and fabric-preservation, and marine dolomitization of precursor aragonite and calcite during the Middle–Late Triassic; (ii) intermediate burial and formation of zebra saddle dolomite and precipitation of various dolomite cements in a Proto-Atlantic opening stress regime (T ca 250°C) during the Early–Middle Jurassic; (iii) dolomite cement precipitation during early Alpine tectonism, rapid burial to ca 15 km, and high-grade anchizone overprint during Alpine tectonic evolution in the Early Eocene to Early Miocene; (iv) brecciation of dolostones to cataclasite during the onset of the Carboneras Fault Zone activity during the Middle Miocene; and (v) late-stage regression and subsequent meteoric overprint. Data shown here document that, under favourable conditions, early diagenetic marine dolomites and their archive data may resist petrographic and geochemical resetting over time intervals of 108 or more years. Evidence for this preservation includes preserved Late Triassic seawater δ13CDIC values and primary fluid inclusion data. Data also indicate that oversimplified statements based on bulk data from other petrographically-complex dolomite archives must be considered with caution.  相似文献

Spontaneous and induced fission tracks in apatite were revealed by etching with HNO3 and used for fission track dating. The fission track age of specimens known as Durango-Apatite was found to be (36.3±3.5) · 106 a.
