We describe the use of a package of subroutines for general-relativistic algebraic computations written in the LISP-based algebraic programming system REDUCE developed by Anthony Hearn. The first group of routines calculates concomitants of the metric tensor such as the Riemann tensor, Ricci tensor, Ricci scalar, Einstein tensor and Weyl tensor from given covariant or covariant and contravariant metric tensor components. One of these procedures includes the evaluation of the Maxwell equations and invariants as well as the Maxwell energy momentum tensor. A second group of routines takes the components of a null tetrad as input and evaluates the null frame projections of the Riemann tensor, the Einstein tensor as well as – if required – the 14 local invariants of the Riemann tensor. It also includes a determination of the Petrov type. Perturbation calculations may be performed and run effectively. The output can be presented in a flexible format chosen according to the needs of the user. A number of further special-purpose programs are available on request. The article should enable a reader familar with General Relativity but unfamilar with formula manipulating system, to employ the package. 相似文献

The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) is the first of a series of European satellite instruments monitoring global ozone and other relevant trace constituents in the UV/visible spectral range. On 20 April 1995, the European Space Agency (ESA) launched the GOME from Kourou, French Guyana, aboard the second European Remote Sensing satellite (ERS-2). In order to obtain the geometric albedo from the backscattered terrestrial radiance measurements, a solar irradiance measurement sequence in the spectral range between 240 nm and 790 nm is carried out once every day. The GOME solar irradiance is recorded at a moderate spectral resolution (0.2–0.4 nm), thus providing an excellent opportunity to contribute to the long-term investigation of solar flux variation associated with the 11-year solar activity cycle from space, which started in 1978 with SBUV (Solar Backscatter UV Experiment) observations on Nimbus-7 and covers solar cycles 21 and 22. This paper briefly describes the GOME spectrometer and measurement mode which are relevant to the solar viewing. Preliminary results from the solar irradiance measurements between 1995 and 1997 and comparisons to SSBUV-8 (Shuttle SBUV) in January 1996 are presented. Solar activity indices used as proxies for solar flux variation are often used to find a correlation with observed variation in atmospheric quantities, for instance, total ozone. Initial results from the GOME Mgii (280 nm) and Caii K (393 nm) solar activity index calculation are presented and discussed. The coupling of solar irradiance variability to global change is a current source of scientific and public concern. This study shows that GOME/ERS-2 (1995–2001) and the next generation of European remote sensing instruments, SCIAMACHY and GOME/METOP, have the potential to provide continuity in the measurements of solar irradiance from space well into the next century. 相似文献

The 7 May 1992 filament disappearance in the low corona is analyzed. The cool and hot components of this event are studied, using H, soft X-ray and radio data. We first show the general effect of the disparition brusque (DB) on the life of the filament, which was a quiescent filament in the vicinity of an active region, and then give the history of the development of the 7 May event. The main stages of the event are: (i) the formation of hot arches spanning the cool filament; (ii) rise of the filament, with plasma ejection into the corona, in which we note some spreading of loops from the main body, with two distinct rising velocity phases of the H filament; (iii) formation of X-ray arches below the filament, the foot points of the arcades being two-ribbon H flare patches. The San Juan Capistrano chondrite fell on 15 March 1973; the total recovered mass was 56 g. Electron microprobe, chemical and petrographic studies show it to be a member of the H group and of petrologic type 6. Rare gas studies show that only minor radiogenic gas loss has occurred and yield a K-Ar age of 4.6 × 109 years and a Kr-Kr exposure age of 29 × 106 years. 相似文献

The energetics of a current sheet that forms between newly emerging flux and an ambient field are considered. As more and more flux emerges, so the sheet rises in the solar atmosphere. The various contributions to the thermal energy balance in the sheet are approximated and the resulting equation solved for the internal temperature of the sheet. It is found that, for certain choices of the ambient magnetic field strength and velocity, the internal temperature increases until, when the sheet reaches some critical height, no neighbouring equilibrium state exists. The temperature then increases rapidly, seeking a hotter branch of the solution curve. During this dynamic heating, the threshold temperature for the onset of plasma microinstabilities may be attained. A chemical scheme is reported for the analysis of chondritic materials and results are presented for the Cocklebiddy meteorite. Analytical problems associated with chondrite inhomogeneity including phase leaching selectivity and the completeness of individual phase attack are considered. Data obtained by this method can be used to classify chondrites according to the accepted weight and molar ratio methods (Van Schmus and Wood, 1967: Wasson, 1974) The analytical scheme uses selective leaching techniques to determine, in each sample, the chemical composition of metallic, sulphide and silicate phases. A study of all the observed and well-defined sector boundaries from January 1957 to February 1975, published by Svalgaard (1974, 1975a, b), indicated that sector boundary key-dates, transformed into Bartels' days, have a significant preference to occur on certain days of the solar rotation. The eclectic distribution of these sector boundaries give some Bartels' days that are empty of cases, while on other days there is a significant excess over the average. Using this effect, we can predict, in high levels of significance, the possible occurrence of a (+,–) or (–,+) boundary within particular days of the solar rotation. 相似文献

A possible mechanism for the formation and heating of coronal loops through the propagation and damping of fast mode waves is proposed and studied in detail. Loop-like field structures are represented by a dipole field with the point dipole at a given distance below the solar surface. The density of the medium is determined by hydrostatic equilibrium along the field lines in an isothermal atmosphere. The fast mode waves propagating outward from the coronal base are refracted into regions with a low Alfvén speed and suffer collisionless damping when the gas pressure becomes comparable to the magnetic pressure. The propagation and damping of these waves are studied for three different cases: a uniform density at the coronal base, a density depletion within a given flux tube, and a density enhancement within a given flux tube. The fast mode waves are found to be important in the formation and heating of the loops if the wave energy flux density is of the order 105 ergs cm-2 s-1 at the coronal base.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. 相似文献

We report observations of the solar radio radius at wavelengths between 1.2 and 11 cm performed with the Bonn 100 m-telescope. In combination with former measurements of the centre-to-limb variation of the solar brightness these observations are discussed in terms of atmospheric models. We consider the solar disk to be covered by arches at low latitudes, while at the poles coronal holes are located. The temperature dependence on height is taken from EUV-line intensities, hydrostatic equilibrium is adopted, spicules are assumed to be responsible for the relatively low brightening. The interpretation of our measurements demands certain values of the brightness temperature of spicules as a function of wavelength within a modest interval. 相似文献
