The nature of selected soil-chemical and microbial properties influenced by tsunami affected and non-affected areas along the border areas of the alluvial Andaman Island in India were investigated. Soils of these areas have turned saline and saline-sodic due to the ingression of sea water. The electrical conductivity of the saturation extract of the surface soil varied from 11.2 to 23.8 dS m?1 in 2005, and it was decreased to 0.8–10.3 dS m?1 in 2006 due to the heavy rain in the following year after the tsunami. Soil quality indicators, like microbial biomass C, microbial metabolic quotient, microbial respiration quotient and fluorescein diacetate hydrolyzing activity, decreased in the tsunami affected soil in 2005, but slightly increased in 2006. All microbial parameters were significantly negatively correlated with the electrical conductivity, sodium absorption ratio and exchangeable sodium percentage. Suppression of microbial biomass and their activities in the soils due to the increased-salinity is of great agronomic significance and needs suitable intervention for sustainable crop production. Significant differences were found in soil-chemical and microbial characteristics between tsunami affected and non-affected areas. Hierarchical clustering algorithm on the basis of different soil-chemical and microbial characteristics revealed that there is significant difference in grouping between tsunami affected and non-affected zones. From this study, it can be concluded that the sea water ingression detrimentally influenced the microbial properties of tsunami affected soil.  相似文献

A laboratory plasma experiment has been built to study the eruption of arched magnetic flux ropes (AMFRs) in the presence of a large magnetized plasma. This experiment simulates the eruption of solar AMFRs in two essential steps: i) it produces an AMFR (n=6.0×1012 cm?3, $T_{\rm e} = 14~\mathrm{eV}$ , B≈1 kilo-gauss, L=0.51 m) with a persistent appearance that lasts several Alfvén transit times using a lanthanum hexaboride (LaB6) plasma source, and ii) it generates controlled plasma flows from the footpoints of the AMFR using laser beams. An additional LaB6 plasma source generates a large magnetized plasma in the background. The laser-generated flows trigger the eruption by injecting dense plasma and magnetic flux into the AMFR. The experiment is highly reproducible and runs continuously with a 0.5 Hz repetition rate; hence, several thousand identical loop eruptions are routinely generated and their spatio-temporal evolution is recorded in three-dimensions using computer-controlled movable probes. Measurements demonstrate striking similarities between the erupting laboratory and solar arched magnetic flux ropes.  相似文献

Assuming local thermodynamic equilibrium and the same relative abundances to prevail both in photosphere and faculae, the concentration-optical depth curves for molecules CH, NH, OH, C2, CN and CO have been obtained for the four combinations of two photospheric and two facular models and the relative excesses of these molecules in the photosphere over those in faculae have been calculated. The change of photospheric model significantly affects the relationship, for a given facular model, between and D 0, the dissociation energy of the molecule concerned. Besides, the average depth of formation in the facular models and photospheric models shows a relationship with D 0.  相似文献

Soil samples collected in the vicinity of a small sulfide mineralization were analyzed for Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, Ag, Mn, Ni, Co, Cr, and Mo. Factor analysis was used to study the interrelationships among these variables. Selective removal of some samples prior to factor analysis proved to be an important tool in exposing “hidden” relationships between samples, variables, and factors. It has been demonstrated that factor analysis is a suitable technique for data reduction in geochemical exploration since factor scores can be used, instead of raw variables, for interpretation of field observations and location of anomalies.  相似文献

The Climate impact studies in hydrology often rely on climate change information at fine spatial resolution. However, general circulation models (GCMs), which are among the most advanced tools for estimating future climate change scenarios, operate on a coarse scale. Therefore the output from a GCM has to be downscaled to obtain the information relevant to hydrologic studies. In this paper, a support vector machine (SVM) approach is proposed for statistical downscaling of precipitation at monthly time scale. The effectiveness of this approach is illustrated through its application to meteorological sub-divisions (MSDs) in India. First, climate variables affecting spatio-temporal variation of precipitation at each MSD in India are identified. Following this, the data pertaining to the identified climate variables (predictors) at each MSD are classified using cluster analysis to form two groups, representing wet and dry seasons. For each MSD, SVM- based downscaling model (DM) is developed for season(s) with significant rainfall using principal components extracted from the predictors as input and the contemporaneous precipitation observed at the MSD as an output. The proposed DM is shown to be superior to conventional downscaling using multi-layer back-propagation artificial neural networks. Subsequently, the SVM-based DM is applied to future climate predictions from the second generation Coupled Global Climate Model (CGCM2) to obtain future projections of precipitation for the MSDs. The results are then analyzed to assess the impact of climate change on precipitation over India. It is shown that SVMs provide a promising alternative to conventional artificial neural networks for statistical downscaling, and are suitable for conducting climate impact studies.  相似文献

Runoff modelling of a small watershed using satellite data and GIS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This study was conducted for the Nagwan watershed of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), Hazaribagh, Bihar, India. Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to extract the hydrological parameters of the watershed from the remote sensing and field data. The Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was prepared using contour map (Survey of India, 1:50000 scale) of the watershed. The EASI/PACE GIS software was used to extract the topographic features and to delineate watershed and overland flow-paths from the DEM. Land use classification were generated from data of Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS-1B—LISS—II) to compute runoff Curve Number (CN). Data extracted from contour map, soil map and satellite imagery, viz. drainage basin area, basin shape, average slope of the watershed, main stream channel slope, land use, hydrological soil groups and CN were used for developing an empirical model for surface runoff prediction. It was found that the model can predict runoff reasonably well and is well suited for the Nagwan watershed. Design of conservation structures can be done and their effects on direct runoff can be evaluated using the model. In broader sense it could be concluded that model can be applied for estimating runoff and evaluating its effect on structures of the Nagwan watershed.  相似文献

A consideration of the dissociation equilibrium of diatomic molecules in the Utrecht Reference Photosphere leads us to conclude that SH, SiO, CS, HF and HCl may show up in enough concentrations in the solar atmosphere. The current designs of supporting structures of elevated water tanks are extremely vulnerable under lateral forces due to an earthquake and the Bhuj earthquake provided another illustration when a great many water tank stagings suffered damage and a few collapsed. The more popular shaft type stagings suffer from poor ductility of thin shell sections besides low redundancy and toughness whereas framed stagings consist of weak members and poor brace-column joints. A strength analysis of a few damaged shaft type stagings clearly shows that all of them either met or exceeded the strength requirements of IS:1893-1984, however, they were all found deficient when compared with requirements of the International Building Code. IS:1893-1984 is unjustifiably low for these systems which do not have the advantage of ductility and redundancy and are currently being underestimated at least by a factor of 3 and need an upward revision of forces immediately.  相似文献
