A new olivine reference material – MongOL Sh11‐2 – for in situ analysis has been prepared from the central portion of a large (20 × 20 × 10 cm) mantle peridotite xenolith from a ~ 0.5 My old basaltic breccia at Shavaryn‐Tsaram, Tariat region, central Mongolia. The xenolith is a fertile mantle lherzolite with minimal signs of alteration. Approximately 10 g of 0.5–2 mm gem quality olivine fragments were separated under binocular microscope and analysed by EPMA, LA‐ICP‐MS, SIMS and bulk analytical methods (ID‐ICP‐MS for Mg and Fe, XRF, ICP‐MS) for major, minor and trace elements at six institutions world‐wide. The results show that the olivine fragments are sufficiently homogeneous with respect to major (Mg, Fe, Si), minor and trace elements. Significant inhomogeneity was revealed only for phosphorus (homogeneity index of 12.4), whereas Li, Na, Al, Sc, Ti and Cr show minor inhomogeneity (homogeneity index of 1–2). The presence of some mineral and fluid‐melt micro‐inclusions may be responsible for the inconsistency in mass fractions obtained by in situ and bulk analytical methods for Al, Cu, Sr, Zr, Ga, Dy and Ho. Here we report reference and information values for twenty‐seven major, minor and trace elements.  相似文献

The breach in the dam of a tailing pond in the processing plant of a gold mine in Baia Mare (NW Romania) in January 2000 lead to an ecological disaster in the rivers Szamos and Tisza. It was mainly caused by the released slurries containing cyanides and heavy metals. The investigation of surface sediment samples and depth profiles of the years 2000 and 2001 documented the pollution of the rivers Szamos and Tisza on Hungarian territory. In the Szamos and large areas of the Tisza floodplains a significant enrichment with the heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn is existent. The identification of the binding forms with sequential extraction showed that Cd and Zn exist in an easily available form. Therefore the remobilization is possible and an environmental hazard in the downstream areas must be considered. The anthropogenically caused portions of heavy metal concentrations decrease considerably with increasing distance to the mining region. The comparison of the concentrations of heavy metals in both years shows that the pollution is not only caused by the accident in January 2000. The increase of concentrations is based on the permanent input of pollutants into the rivers. The pollution is mainly caused by the erosion of exposed tailing dumps and the poor maintenance of the treatment plants.  相似文献

New information obtained about >500 keV electron intensity enhancements, which have been observed intermittently close to the outer edge of the electron radiation belt, is used in conjunction with an earlier statistical study by Brown and Stone (1972) to investigate processes which could lead to such structures. The enhancements are typically of ~20 sec duration and occur in a very narrow invariant latitude band, maximally 2° wide. The intensity increase relative to the “normal” background level is up to a factor 10, and the “spike” frequency of occurrence is strongly local time dependent, with more spikes observed in the night and dusk-noon sectors than in the noon-dawn sector. The processes investigated quantitatively are distortions of the magnetospheric topology in the equatorial region, wave-particle interactions and the effects of ionospheric currents. It is shown that the various processes which contribute to equatorial field disturbances can explain the observations.  相似文献

The CELIAS experiment on SOHO is designed to measure the mass, ionic charge and energy of the low and high speed solar wind, of suprathermal ions, and of low energy flare particles. Through analysis of the elemental and isotopic abundances, the ionic charge state, and the velocity distributions of ions originating in the solar atmosphere, the investigation focuses on the plasma processes on various temporal and spatial scales in the solar chromosphere, transition zone, and corona. CELIAS includes 3 mass- and charge-discriminating sensors based on the time-of-flight technique: CTOF for the elemental, charge and velocity distribution of the solar wind, MTOF for the elemental and isotopic composition of the solar wind, and STOF for the mass, charge and energy distribution of suprathermal ions. The instrument will provide detailed in situ diagnostics of the solar wind and of accelerated particles, which will complement the optical and spectroscopic investigations of the solar atmosphere on SOHO. CELIAS also contains a Solar Extreme Ultraviolet Monitor, SEM, which continously measures the EUV flux in a wide band of 17 – 70 nm, and a narrow band around the 30.4 nm He II line.Principal-InvestigatorPrincipal-Investigator for data phase  相似文献

The Euler equations for the forced physical librations of the Moon have already been solved by using a digital computer to perform the semi-literal mathematical manipulations. Very near resonance, the computer solution for the physical libration in longitude is complemented by the solution of the appropriate Duffing equation with a dissipation term. Because of its apparent proximity to a resonant frequency, the term whose argument is 2 - twice the mean angular distance of the Moon's perigee from the ascending node of its orbit - is especially important. Its phase, which soon should be measurable, is related to the Moon's anelasticity. The term's frequency, in units of the sidereal month, increases as the semi-major axis of the Moon's orbit about the Earth increases. Using the Moon's mechanical ellipticity of Koziel and the rate of increase of the semi-major axis of MacDonald, it is estimated that the 2 term will cross the resonant frequency in 130 million years and, if the rate of energy dissipation is sufficiently low, a transient libration will be induced.  相似文献

We wish to point out that the Brans-Dicke-Bianchi type-III vacuum solution recently given by Tiwari and Singh (1984) is not new. Moreover, the solution given has no correct Einstein limit, contrary to what is claimed by these authors. The Ellis-MacCallum vacuum solution in the Einstein case can be obtained from the Brans-Dicke solution first given by Lorenz-Petzold (1984a).  相似文献

Chemical and Sr, Nd and Pb isotopic compositions of Late Cenozoic to Quaternary small-volume phonolite, trachyte and related mafic rocks from the Darfur volcanic province/NW-Sudan have been investigated. Isotope signatures indicate variable but minor crustal contributions. Some phonolitic and trachytic rocks show the same isotopic composition as their primitive mantle-derived parents, and no crustal contributions are visible in the trace element patterns of these samples. The magmatic evolution of the evolved rocks is dominated by crystal fractionation. The Si-undersaturated strongly alkaline phonolite and the Si-saturated mildly alkaline trachyte can be modelled by fractionation of basanite and basalt, respectively. The suite of basanite–basalt–phonolite–trachyte with characteristic isotope signatures from the Darfur volcanic province fits the compositional features of other Cenozoic intra-plate magmatism scattered in North and Central Africa (e.g., Tibesti, Maghreb, Cameroon line), which evolved on a lithosphere that was reworked or formed during the Neoproterozoic.  相似文献

The state of our observational and theoretical knowledge of the localinterstellar medium (LISM) is reviewed. The LISM stretches out from thelocal Cloud, surrounding the solar system to the boundary of the LocalBubble, which is a region of distinct anticorrelation between HI (N H< 1020 cm-2) and 1/4 keV diffuse soft X-rays. After discussingsome key observations in soft X-rays, obtained by ROSAT and DXS, and inthe EUV by the EUVE satellite and the EURD instrument onboard Minisat, Iwill critically review models of the LISM. Since we cannot determine theplasma state (temperature, density, etc.) directly, the best plasmadiagnostic tool is high resolution spectroscopy. The interpretationof the data then has to rely heavily on plasma emission models. I willpoint out several caveats in the standard procedure. Preference is givento dynamical models of the Local Bubble in general and to non-equilibriumplasma emission models in particular, which have to be calculatedself-consistently. Such a model can explain (i) the deficiency of EUVlines as observed by EUVE, (ii) the dispersion measure and scintillationproperties of a nearby pulsar, (iii) the existence of local neutral HIclouds, and (iv) OVI absorption line widths. New model spectra of theLISM will be presented and briefly compared with DXS, EUVE and preliminaryEURD results.  相似文献
