The European Venus Explorer (EVE) mission was proposed to the European Space Agency in 2007, as an M-class mission under the
Cosmic Vision Programme. Although it has not been chosen in the 2007 selection round for programmatic reasons, the EVE mission
may serve as a useful reference point for future missions, so it is described here. It consists of one balloon platform floating
at an altitude of 50–60 km, one descent probe provided by Russia, and an orbiter with a polar orbit which will relay data
from the balloon and descent probe, and perform science observations. The balloon type preferred for scientific goals is one
which oscillates in altitude through the cloud deck. To achieve this flight profile, the balloon envelope contains a phase
change fluid, which results in a flight profile which oscillates in height. The nominal balloon lifetime is 7 days—enough
for one full circumnavigation of the planet. The descent probe’s fall through the atmosphere takes 60 min, followed by 30 min
of operation on the surface. The key measurement objectives of EVE are: (1) in situ measurement from the balloon of noble
gas abundances and stable isotope ratios, to study the record of the evolution of Venus; (2) in situ balloon-borne measurement
of cloud particle and gas composition, and their spatial variation, to understand the complex cloud-level chemistry; (3) in
situ measurements of environmental parameters and winds (from tracking of the balloon) for one rotation around the planet,
to understand atmospheric dynamics and radiative balance in this crucial region. The portfolio of key measurements is complemented

Saturn's icy satellites are among the main scientific objectives of the Cassini-VIMS (Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer) experiment. This paper contains a first systematic and comparative analysis of the full-disk spectral properties of Dione, Enceladus, Epimetheus, Hyperion, Iapetus, Mimas, Phoebe, Rhea and Tethys as observed by VIMS from July 2004 to June 2005. The disk integrated properties (350-5100 nm reflectance spectra and phase curves at 550-2232 nm) and images of satellites are reported and discussed in detail together with the observed geometry. In general, the spectra in the visible spectral range are almost featureless and can be classified according to the spectral slopes: from the bluish Enceladus and Phoebe to the redder Iapetus, Hyperion and Epimetheus. In the 1000-1300 nm range the spectra of Enceladus, Tethys, Mimas and Rhea are characterized by a negative slope, consistent with a surface largely dominated by water ice, while the spectra of Iapetus, Hyperion and Phoebe show a considerable reddening pointing out the relevant role played by darkening materials present on the surface. In between these two classes are Dione and Epimetheus, which have a flat spectrum in this range. The main absorption bands identified in the infrared are the 1520, 2020, 3000 nm H2O/OH bands (for all satellites), although Iapetus dark terrains show mostly a deep 3000 nm band while the 1520 and 2020 nm bands are very faint. In this spectral range, the Iapetus spectrum is characterized by a strong reddening. The CO2 band at 4260 nm and the Fresnel ice peak around 3100 nm are evident only on Hyperion, Phoebe and Iapetus. The phase curves at 550 and at 2232 nm are reported for all the available observations in the 0°-144° range; Rhea shows an opposition surge at visible wavelengths in the 0.5°-1.17° interval. The improvement on the retrieval of the full-disk reflectance spectra can be appreciated by a direct comparison with ground-based telescopic data available from literature. An experimental study has been made of stagnation points and flow splitting on the upstream side of obstacles in uniformly stratified flow. A range from small to large values of Nh/U (where N is the buoyancy frequency, hm is the maximum obstacle height and U is the undisturbed fluid velocity) has been covered, for three obstacle shapes which are, respectively, axisymmetric, and elongated in the across-stream and in the downstream directions. Upstream stagnation for the first two of these models does not occur until Nhm/U > 1.05, where it occurs at z ≈ hm/2. On the central line below this point the flow descends and diverges, and we term this ‘flow splitting’. For the third model (elongated in the downstream direction), stagnation upstream first occurs at Nhm/U ≈ 1.43, at z ≈ 0. Results for this obstacle are not consistent with the ‘Sheppard criterion’, and this upstream flow stagnation is not apparently related to lee wave overturning, in contrast to flow over two-dimensional obstacles. 相似文献

The insoluble organic matter, or kerogen, in a Recent bottom mud (<1000yr old) from Mono Lake, California, has been analyzed by vacuum pyrolysis-GC-MS and compared with the kerogen from several Precambrian rocks, including the Belingwe and Transvaal stromatolites. The Mono Lake kerogen consists mainly of cyclic and acyclic aliphatic components with lesser amounts of aromatics present. It is less aromatic and more susceptible to thermal degradation than the Precambrian kerogens, and its products show a much greater diversity especially among the unsaturated aliphatics and the heteroatomic components. The presence of these compounds, most notably 2,5-dimethylfuran, in the Mono Lake kerogen indicates a relatively rapid formation and incorporation into a young kerogen and suggests that their presence in the Precambrian kerogens, such as the Belingwe stromatolite, may be consistent with an ancient biological origin.In simulated diagenesis experiments the Recent mud was heated at 150°C for 3 months or 225°C for 8 months. The former was insufficient to affect the kerogen pyrolysis products. The latter, however, caused a large decrease in the heteroatomic components and a slight increase in the abundance of n-alkanes relative to that of the cyclic and branched alkanes. This suggests that the presence of some of these components in Precambrian rocks should be consistent with a high degree of preservation of these rocks, as appears to be the case for the Belingwe and Transvaal stromatolites. 相似文献

The intent of this paper is to explore how ‘reel’ and ‘real’ landscapes can be rendered dialectic. The analysis focuses on
the filming of Tarzan's Secret Treasure (1941) at the wildlife preserve of Wakulla Springs in Florida, which was administered
by the financial tycoon Ed Ball. Using Mitchell's recent commentaries on ‘good’ and ‘bad’ dialectics as our entry point, we
offer two readings of this cinematic process. The first renders the on and off screen Wakulla Springs as ideological fodder,
serving to valorise capital, masculinity and whiteness. The second reading addresses how this place has been actively constructed
from discourses pertaining to class, gender and race, such that Wakulla exists as a series of fully relational spaces within
diverse contexts, both ‘real’ and ‘reel’. In structuring our analysis in this manner, we hope to make clear why it does indeed
matter for film geographers to acknowledge the conceptual presumptions brought to bear in the framing of the real and the
reel as objects of analysis.

The production and use of fossil fuels and nonrenewable electricity creates many forms of environmental degradation. To reduce degradation, this research suggests an energy strategy based on energy end‐use analysis and regional geography. Energy end‐use analysis and regional geography are used to match renewable energy resources with site‐specific, end‐use needs. Fieldwork conducted within Centre County, Pennsylvania, demonstrates that small‐scale solar, wind, and micro‐hydropower resources could displace a proportion of household electricity use. The purpose of this project was to develop and test a methodology for determining the likelihood that mineral resource location
records from two nationwide mineral resource information databases represent the same site. The long-term goal is to create
a comprehensive database by merging the Mineral Resource Data System (MRDS) of the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Mineral
Availability System/Mineral Industry Location System (MAS/MILS) of the U.S. Bureau of Mines (now part of the Geological Survey).
Part of that process involves linking records for the same site from each database. Match probabilities were estimated using
a logistic regression of mineral resource location attributes, derived from known matched (cross-referenced) and known unmatched
randomly sampled mineral site pairs from within the conterminous United States (n=10,000). Model accuracy was assessed using a randomly sampled test dataset, not used in logistic model development (n=4,000). Probability distributions were similar between the development and test datasets. The overall agreement beyond chance
was good for the test data set
using the kappa statistic. Classification accuracy was 89.6% for known matched site pairs and 84.0% for known unmatched site
pairs based on a probability threshold of 0.50 for a match. Distributions of attributes were similar between the development
and test datasets. This classification method is a viable approach for estimating match probabilities between database records. 相似文献
