The influence of Al–Cr substitution on the spinel structure was studied in synthetic single crystals belonging to the FeCr2O4–FeAl2O4 series produced by flux growth at 1,000–1,300 °C in controlled atmosphere. Samples were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, electron microprobe analyses and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Crystals of sufficient size and quality for single-crystal X-ray diffraction were obtained in the ranges Chr0–0.45 and Chr70–100 but not for intermediate compositions, possibly due to a reduced stability in this range. The increase in chromite component leads to an increase in the cell edge from 8.1534 (6) to 8.3672 (1) Å and a decrease in the u parameter from 0.2645 (2) to 0.2628 (1). Chemical analyses show that Fe2+ is very close to 1 apfu (0.994–1.007), Al is in the range 0.0793–1.981 apfu, Cr between 0 and 1.925 apfu. In some cases, Fe3+ is present in amounts up to 0.031 apfu. Spinels with intermediate Cr content (Chr component between 40 and 60) are strongly zoned with Cr-rich cores and Cr-poor rims. Mössbauer analyses on powdered spinels of the runs from which single crystal has been used for X-ray structural data show values of Fe3+/Fetot consistently larger than that calculated by EMPA on single crystals, presumably due to chemical variation between single crystals from the same runs. The synthesis runs ended at a temperature of 1,000 °C, but it is possible that cation ordering continued in the Cr-poor samples towards lower temperatures, possibly down to 700 °C. 相似文献

Pronounced positive decadal-scale temperature anomalies occurred in the Arctic region in the first half of the twentieth century, an episode known as the early twentieth century warming (ETCW). Analyzing a 3,000-year unperturbed climate simulation performed with the Max Planck Institute Earth System Model, we demonstrate that internal variability of the Northern Hemisphere climate system is sufficient to reproduce warm events matching the observed ETCW. We perform a superposed epoch analysis on simulated data and identify 26 Arctic warming episodes compatible with the ETCW. The simulated events reproduce, in their ensemble average, magnitude as well as spatial and temporal extent of the observed ETCW. In individual realizations, the ETCW-like events indicate that different patterns of internally generated decadal Arctic warming are possible, including pan-Arctic warming events. We investigate the dynamics that typically lead to the simulated warming events: positive oceanic heat transport anomalies that form in the North Atlantic initialize the warming events and trigger an ocean-ice-albedo feedback in the Barents Sea region. The consequent reduction in sea-ice extent leads to enhanced multi-year surface warming through strengthened ocean heat release to the atmosphere. The oceanic heat transport anomalies reduce to pre-event levels around the year of the maximum warming. However, the warming events typically lasts for another 5–7 years until the sea-ice extent recovers to pre-event conditions. 相似文献

Abstract The problem of identifying and reproducing the hydrological behaviour of groundwater systems can often be set in terms of ordinary differential equations relating the inputs and outputs of their physical components under simplifying assumptions. Conceptual linear and nonlinear models described as ordinary differential equations are widely used in hydrology and can be found in several studies. Groundwater systems can be described conceptually as an interlinked reservoir model structured as a series of nonlinear tanks, so that the groundwater table can be schematized as the water level in one of the interconnected tanks. In this work, we propose a methodology for inferring the dynamics of a groundwater system response to rainfall, based on recorded time series data. The use of evolutionary techniques to infer differential equations from data in order to obtain their intrinsic phenomenological dynamics has been investigated recently by a few authors and is referred to as evolutionary modelling. A strategy named Evolutionary Polynomial Regression (EPR) has been applied to a real hydrogeological system, the shallow unconfined aquifer of Brindisi, southern Italy, for which 528 recorded monthly data over a 44-year period are available. The EPR returns a set of non-dominated models, as ordinary differential equations, reproducing the system dynamics. The choice of the representative model can be made both on the basis of its performance against a test data set and based on its incorporation of terms that actually entail physical meaning with respect to the conceptualization of the system. A pristine magnetite (Fe3O4) specimen was studied by means of Neutron Powder Diffraction in the 273–1,073 K temperature range, in order to characterize
its structural and magnetic behavior at high temperatures. An accurate analysis of the collected data allowed the understanding
of the behavior of the main structural and magnetic features of magnetite as a function of temperature. The magnetic moments
of both tetrahedral and octahedral sites were extracted by means of magnetic diffraction up to the Curie temperature (between
773 and 873 K). A change in the thermal expansion coefficient around the Curie temperature together with an increase in the
oxygen coordinate value above 700 K can be observed, both features being the result of a change in the thermal expansion of
the tetrahedral site. This anomaly is not related to the magnetic transition but can be explained with an intervened cation
reordering, as magnetite gradually transforms from a disordered configuration into a partially ordered one. Based on a simple
model which takes into account the cation-oxygen bond length, the degree of order as a function of temperature and consequently
the enthalpy and entropy of the reordering process were determined. The refined values are ΔH0 = −23.2(1.7) kJ mol−1 and ΔS0 = −16(2) J K−1 mol−1. These results are in perfect agreement with values reported in literature (Mack et al. in Solid State Ion 135(1–4):625–630,

The singularity for the big bang state can be represented using the generalized anisotropic Friedmann equation, resulting in a system of differential equations in a central force field. We study the regularizability of this singularity as a function of a parameter, the equation of state, w. We prove that for w > 1 it is regularizable only for w satisfying relative prime number conditions, and for w ≤ 1 it can always be regularized. This is done by using a McGehee transformation, usually applied in the three and four-body problems. This transformation blows up the singularity into an invariant manifold. The relationship of this result to other cosmological models is briefly discussed. 相似文献

We obtain the wave velocities and quality factors of gas‐hydrate‐bearing sediments as a function of pore pressure, temperature, frequency and partial saturation. The model is based on a Biot‐type three‐phase theory that considers the existence of two solids (grains and gas hydrate) and a fluid mixture. Attenuation is described with the constant‐Q model and viscodynamic functions to model the high‐frequency behaviour. We apply a uniform gas/water mixing law that satisfies Wood's and Voigt's averages at low and high frequencies, respectively. The acoustic model is calibrated to agree with the patchy‐saturation theory at high frequencies (White's model). Pressure effects are accounted by using an effective stress law for the dry‐rock moduli and permeabilities. The dry‐rock moduli of the sediment are calibrated with data from the Cascadia margin. Moreover, we calculate the depth of the bottom simulating reflector (BSR) below the sea floor as a function of sea‐floor depth, geothermal gradient below the sea floor, and temperature at the sea floor. 相似文献

Abstract Thirty-one piston and/or gravity cores not exceeding 10 m in length were raised in selected areas of a 300 km-long transect (Medriff Corridor) crossing the Mediterranean Ridge, an accretionary complex subject to continent/continent collision, containing an important evaporitic body (Messinian evaporites), in order to ground-truth the geological make-up. Core location, very accurate with reference to a complex bottom configuration, was preceded by swathe mapping, seismic profiling and side-scan sonar investigations. Most sediment cores have a pelagic facies, with biogenic marls as dominant lithology, and sapropels and tephras as minor, isochronous lithologies. A combination of isochronous lithologies and calcareous plankton biochronology permits high resolution stratigraphic correlations. Pelagic facies sediments are Middle Pleistocene to Holocene in age. Two cores associated with mounds located along thrusts contain a matrix-supported mud breccia of deep provenance, Burdigalian-Langhian in age, similar to that characteristic of the Mediterranean Ridge diapiric belt (Cita et al. 1995 ). Three new brine-filled anoxic basins (Urania, l'Atalante and Discovery) were discovered. The brines originated from submarine dissolution of Messinian evaporites and are different in the various basins. The sedimentary record strongly differs from basin to basin. These brine lakes are very young (35 000 years or less). A drastic change in sedimentation rate recorded in the Discovery Basin suggests that basin collapse was sudden and followed by progressive development of basin anoxia. Some cores were analyzed with a prototype multisensor for P-wave velocity, magnetic susceptibility and density. Sapropels show up as abrupt decreases in P-wave velocity and density, and tephra as sudden increases in magnetic susceptibility. Mud breccia displays P-wave velocities greater than pelagic marls, with peaks related to lithic clasts. Anoxic sediments have high P-wave velocities; peaks are associated with gypsum crystals. 相似文献
