In recent years, the small pelagic fishery on the Pacific northwest coast of Mexico has significantly increased fishing pressure on thread herring Opisthonema spp. This fishery is regulated using a precautionary approach(acceptable biological catch(ABC) and minimum catch size). However, due to fishing dynamics, fish aggregation habits and increased fishing mortality, periodic biomass assessments are necessary to estimate ABC and assess the resource status. The Catch-MSY approach was used to analyze historical series of thread herring catches off the western Baja California Sur(BCS, 1981–2018) and the Gulf of California(GC, 1972–2018) to estimate exploitable biomass and target reference points in order to obtain catch quotas. According to the results, in GC,the maximum biomass reached in 1972(at the beginning of fishery) and minimum biomass reached in 2015; the estimated exploitable biomass for 2019 was 42.2×10~4 t; and the maximum sustainable yield(MSY) was 15.4×10~4 t.In the western BCS coast, the maximum biomass was reached in 1981(at the beginning of fishery) and minimum biomass was reached in 2017; the estimated exploitable biomass for 2019 was 3.2×10~4 t; and the MSY was 1.2×10~4 t.Both stocks showed a decrease in biomass over the past years and were currently near to point of full exploitation.The results suggest that the use of the Catch-MSY method is suitable to obtain annual biomass estimates, in order to establish an ABC, to know the current state of the resource, and to avoid overcoming the potential recovery of the stocks.  相似文献

We present data on the phase relationships of mixtures between natural tonalite and peridotite compositions with excess H2O at 30 kbar, and on the composition of the piercing point where the peridotite-tonalite mixing line intersects the L(Ga,Opx) reaction boundary. These data, in conjunction with earlier analogous data along peridotite-granite and basalt-granite mixing lines, permit construction of a pseudoternary liquidus projection that is relevant to interaction of peridotite with slab-derived magmas. Knowledge of the liquidus phase and temperature for a range of compositions within this projection enables us to map primary crystallization fields for quartz, garnet, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, and olivine, and to estimate the distribution of isotherms across the projection. Using this projection, we explore the consequences of peridotite assimilation by mafic to intermediate (basalt to dacite) hydrous slab-derived melts. Progressive assimilation under isothermal conditions results in garnet precipitation as the melt composition traverses the garnet liquidus surface and then garnet+orthopyroxene crystallization once the melt reaches the L(Ga,Opx) field boundary. The melt is constrained to remain on this field boundary and further assimilation of peridotite simply results in continued precipitation of garnet+orthopyroxene until the melt is consumed. The product is a hybrid solid assemblage consisting of Ga+ Opx. It is noteworthy that this process drives the melt composition in a direction nearly perpendicular to the mixing line between peridotite and the initial melt. If assimilation occurs with increasing temperature (as might occur if a slab-derived magma rises into the hotter mantle wedge), intermediate magmas (e.g. andesites) will again precipitate garnet until they reach the L(Ga,Opx) reaction boundary at which point Ga re-dissolves and orthopyroxene precipitates as the melt composition moves up-temperature along this boundary. The product of this process is a hybrid solid assemblage with garnet subordinate to orthopyroxene. For more mafic initial compositions (e.g. basalts) originally plotting in the Cpx field, it appears possible to avoid field boundaries involving garnet and shift in composition more directly toward peridotite, if assimilation is accompanied by a sharp increase in temperature. Considering published REE evidence (arguing against garnet playing a significant role in the genesis of many subduction-related magmas) in light of our results, it appears unlikely that peridotite assimilation by intermediate magmas under conditions of constant or increasing temperature is an important process in subduction zones. However, if assimilation is accompanied by an increase in temperature, our data do permit the derivation of high-Mg basalts from less refractory precursors (e.g. high-Al basalts) by peridotite assimilation.  相似文献

Observations of the large two-ribbon flare on 7 November 2004 made using SOHO and TRACE data are interpreted in terms of a three-dimensional magnetic field model. Photospheric flux evolution indicates that ?1.4×1043 Mx2 of magnetic helicity was injected into the active region during the 40-hour buildup prior to the flare. The magnetic model places a lower bound of 8×1031 ergs on the energy stored by this motion. It predicts that 5×1021 Mx of flux would need to be reconnected during the flare to release the stored energy. This total reconnection compares favorably with the flux swept up by the flare ribbons, which we measure using high-time-cadence TRACE images in 1?600 Å. Reconnection in the model must occur in a specific sequence that would produce a twisted flux rope containing significantly less flux and helicity (1021 Mx and ?3×1042 Mx2, respectively) than the active region as a whole. The predicted flux compares favorably with values inferred from the magnetic cloud observed by Wind. This combined analysis yields the first quantitative picture of the flux processed through a two-ribbon flare and coronal mass ejection.  相似文献

Light availability strongly influences stream primary production, water temperatures and resource availability at the base of stream food webs. In headwater streams, light is regulated primarily by the riparian forest, but few studies have evaluated the influence of riparian forest stand age and associated structural differences on light availability. In this study, we evaluated canopy cover and streambed light exposure in four second-order streams within paired reaches of primary old-growth versus second-growth mature riparian forests. Stand age class was used as a proxy here for canopy complexity. We estimated stream canopy cover using a spherical densiometer. Local streambed light exposure was quantified and compared within and between reaches using fluorescein dye photodegradation. Reaches with complex old-growth riparian forests had frequent canopy gaps which lead to greater stream light availability compared to adjacent reaches with simpler second-growth riparian forests. We quantified light exposure at relatively high resolution (every 5 m) and also found greater variability in stream light along the reaches with old-growth riparian forests in three of the four streams. Canopy gaps were particularly important in creating variable light within and between reaches. This work demonstrates the importance of the age, developmental stage, and structure of riparian forests in controlling stream light. The highly variable nature of light on the stream benthos also highlights the value of multiple measurements of light or canopy structure when quantifying stream light.  相似文献

As part of an ongoing investigation of radiative effects produced by hazy atmospheres, computational procedures have been developed for use in determining the brightening of the night sky as a result of urban illumination. The downwardly and upwardly directed radiances of multiply scattered light from an offending metropolitan source are computed by a straightforward Gauss–Seidel (G–S) iterative technique applied directly to the integrated form of Chandrasekhar's vectorized radiative transfer equation. Initial benchmark night-sky brightness tests of the present G–S model using fully consistent optical emission and extinction input parameters yield very encouraging results when compared with the double scattering treatment of Garstang, the only full-fledged previously available model.  相似文献

We have analysed a series of surface samples from the alpine glaciers of Taylor Valley, Southern Victoria Land, Antarctica for their geochemical composition. This was done to better establish the role of glaciochemical variation on the chemical composition of meltwater streams emanating from the glaciers. The chemistry of the snow and ice changes with proximity to the ocean and with elevation of the glacier surface. The aeolian transport of dry valley dust, as indicated by both chemical and particulate matter variations, is a major process affecting the overall glacier chemistry and the chemistry of the meltwaters. Streams originating on the western edges of the glaciers are more impacted by the aeolian input as they are in the direct path of the major regional wind direction. Our data strongly suggest that the variation in stream geochemistry in Taylor Valley is a result in part of the differences in chemical composition of glacier melt. The Sun's coronal magnetic field is highly complex and provides the driving force for many dynamical processes. The topology of this complex field is made up mainly of discrete topological building blocks produced by small numbers of magnetic fragments. In this work we develop a method for predicting the possible topologies due to a potential field produced by three photospheric sources, and describe how this model accurately predicts the results of Brown and Priest (1999). We then sketch how this idea may be extended to more general non-symmetric configurations. It is found that, for the case of positive total flux, a local separator bifurcation may take place with three positive sources or with one positive and two negative sources, but not for two positive sources and one negative.  相似文献

Pumping test of a water table aquifer is carried out to estimate the aquifer parameters, the obtained data were analysed through the solution of both Neuman (1975) and Jacob (1946) methods through AQTESOLV and Spreadsheet programs, the results of each methods are compared to evaluate the applicability and accuracy of the solution theoretically and practically. In the paper an example is presented, which is conducted for a constant rate pumping test from Ohio, in Fairborn (near Dayton), and it supplied by S.E. Norris (U.S. Geological Survey, Columbus, Ohio).
