The OH site in topaz is investigated by IR spectroscopy depending on the OH concentration and temperature. The two OH bands
that can be distinguished are due to the local ordering of F and OH in opposite sites of the crystal structure. The first
typical sharp band stems from OH groups with fluorine in the opposite (=acceptor) site. The second band occurs as a shoulder
on the low-energy wing and is related to two opposite OH groups. The degree of local OH–OH ordering depends on the OH concentration
and, due to statistical F/OH distribution, can be predicted by probability calculations. The substitution of OH for F has
a non-linear effect on the increase of the lattice parameters. An autocorrelation analysis of the IR spectra revealed two
temperature-induced phase transitions. At −135°C, the local symmetry changes from P1 to Pbn21, although this change involves only the H atoms. The transition from Pbn21 to Pbnm at 160°C is caused by changes of the local F/OH ordering in the crystal structure. 相似文献

Drilling in the Bolivian Altiplano discovered the Precambrian basement at 2.744 m of depth, Paleozoic strata lacking. The core is composed of hornblende meta-granite (hornblende granoblastite), in the upper part of biotite meta-granite (biotite granoblastite). Radiometric dating provides evidence for a Grenvillian magmatic or anatectic rock formation (1.050±100 my) and a later metamorphic event of 530±30 my in age.
Zusammenfassung In einem Bohraufschluß vom Altiplano in Bolivien wurde in 2.744 m Teufe unter tertiärer und kretazischer Bedeckung das präkambrische Basement angetroffen. Der präkambrische Bohrkern besteht teils aus Hornblende-Meta-Granit (Hornblende-Kalifeldspat-Quarz-Plagioklas-Gneis), teils aus Biotit-Meta-Granit (Biotit-Kalifeldspat-Quarz-Plagioklas-Gneis). Nach Rb-Sr Datierung dürfte das Bildungsalter etwa 1.050±100 my betragen, eine Aufheizungsperiode um 530±30 my ist nach K-Ar Analyse zu vermuten.
Résumé Lors d'un forage dans l'Altiplano bolivien le substratum précambrien a été rencontré à une profondeur de 2.744 m. La couverture sédimentaire comprend des couches tertiaires et crétaciques. La carotte précambrienne se compose d'un micro-granite gneissique de l'assemblage hornblende — feldspath potassique — quartz — plagioclase et d'un microgranite gneissique de biotite — feldspath potassique — quartz — plagioclase. L'âge de constitution de la roche est d'après l'analyse Rb-Sr de 1.050 ± 100 my. L'analyse K-Ar laisse supposer une transformation métamorphique de 530 ± 30 my.

In this study, maximum dry spell length and number of dry spell periods of rainy seasons in the upper Baro-Akobo River basin which is a part of the Nile basin, Western Ethiopia, were investigated to analyse the drought trend. Daily rainfall records of the period 1972–2000 from eight rain gauge stations were used in the analysis, and Mann-Kendall test was used to test trends for significance. Furthermore, the beginning and end of the trend development in the dry spell were also tested using the sequential version of Mann-Kendall test. Results have shown that there is neither clear monotonic trend found in dry spell for the basin nor significant fluctuation in the onset, cession and duration of rainfall in the Baro-Akobo river basin. This sufficiently explains why rain-fed agriculture has suffered little in the western part of Ethiopia. The predictable nature of dry spell pattern may have allowed farmers to adjust to rainfall variability in the basin. Unlike many parts of Ethiopia, the Baro-Akobo basin climate variability is not a limiting factor for rain-fed agriculture productivity which may contribute significantly to national food security. 相似文献

Using numerical modelling, we investigate the evolution of seismoelectric effects induced by seismic excitation in spatially confined lithological units. Typical geometries represent clay lenses embedded in an aquifer or petroleum deposits in a host rock. In fluid‐saturated rocks, seismic waves can generate electromagnetic fields due to electrokinetic coupling mechanisms associated with such processes in the vicinity of the fluid‐mineral interface. Two seismoelectric phenomena are investigated: (1) the co‐seismic field associated with the seismic displacement at each point in a subsurface and (2) the interface response generated at layer boundaries. Our modelling uses a simplified time‐domain formulation of the coupled problem and an efficient 2D finite‐element implementation. To gain insight into the morphogenetic field behaviour of the seismoelectric effects, several numerical simulations for various target geometries were treated. Accordingly, we varied both the thickness of the confined units and the value of the electrical bulk conductivity in porous media. Analysis of these effects shows differences between interface responses for electrically conductive versus resistive units. So the pertinent contrast in electrical bulk conductivity controls the shape and structure of these seismoelectric conversion patterns. Moreover, the seismoelectric interface response captures both the petrophysical and geometrical characteristics of the geological unit. These models demonstrate the value of using seismoelectric interface response for reservoir characterization in either hydrogeological or hydrocarbon exploration studies. 相似文献

Air particulate matter (PM) samples were collected from June 2006 to May 2007 for determination of chemical elements. PM samples were taken in two size fractions (PM2.5 and PM10) with MiniVolume air samplers on rooftops of various buildings (15–25 m above ground) in the city of Riyadh. The samples were subjected to X-ray fluorescence analysis to measure major (Na, Mg, Al, K, Ca, Si, P, S, and Fe) and trace elements (Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Ba). The results showed that the PM concentrations were higher for PM10 compared to PM2.5, indicating that the major PM source was local dust. Also the spatial distribution with high PM concentrations was observed in the south and southeast of the city and the lowest levels were in the center and northeast of the city. This spatial distribution was attributed to different factors such as wind direction and velocity, emission from cement factories, and the presence of buildings, trees, and paved streets that reduce the amount of dust resuspended into the atmosphere. The air quality of the city was found to range from good to hazardous based on PM2.5, and from good to very hazardous based on PM10. The element-enrichment factors revealed two element groups according to their changing spatial behavior. The first group showed no significant spatial changes indicating they have the same common source. The second group (mainly S and Ni) exhibited significant changes as expected from anthropogenic inputs. The origin of S is possibly a combination of minerals (CaSO4) and fossil fuel combustion. Three major mineralization events are recorded at the Rožná uranium deposit (total mine production of 23,000 t U, average
grade of 0.24% U): (1) pre-uranium quartz-sulfide and carbonate-sulfide mineralization, (2) uranium, and (3) post-uranium
quartz-carbonate-sulfide mineralization. (1) K–Ar ages for white mica from wall rock alteration of the pre-uranium mineralization
style range from 304.5 ± 5.8 to 307.6 ± 6.0 Ma coinciding with the post-orogenic exhumation of the Moldanubian orogenic root
and retrograde-metamorphic equilibration of the high-grade metamorphic host rocks. The fluid inclusion record consists of
low-salinity aqueous inclusions, together with H2O-CO2-CH4, CO2-CH4, and pure CH4 inclusions. The fluid inclusion, paragenetic, and isotope data suggest that the pre-uranium mineralization formed from a
reduced low-salinity aqueous fluid at temperatures close to 300°C. (2) The uraniferous hydrothermal event is subdivided into
the pre-ore, ore, and post-ore substages. K–Ar ages of pre-ore authigenic K-feldspar range from 296.3 ± 7.5 to 281.0 ± 5.4 Ma
and coincide with the transcurrent reorganization of crustal blocks of the Bohemian Massif and with Late Stephanian to Early
Permian rifting. Massive hematitization, albitization, and desilicification of the pre-ore altered rocks indicate an influx
of oxidized basinal fluids to the crystalline rocks of the Moldanubian domain. The wide range of salinities of fluid inclusions
is interpreted as a result of the large-scale mixing of basinal brines with meteoric water. The cationic composition of these
fluids indicates extensive interaction with crystalline rocks. Chlorite thermometry yielded temperatures of 260°C to 310°C.
During this substage, uranium was probably leached from the Moldanubian crystalline rocks. The hydrothermal alteration of
the ore substage followed, or partly overlapped in time, the pre-ore substage alteration. K–Ar ages of illite from ore substage
alteration range from 277.2 ± 5.5 to 264.0 ± 4.3 Ma and roughly correspond with the results of chemical U–Pb dating of authigenic
monazite (268 ± 50 Ma). The uranium ore deposition was accompanied by large-scale decomposition of biotite and pre-ore chlorite
to Fe-rich illite and iron hydrooxides. Therefore, it is proposed that the deposition of uranium ore was mostly in response
to the reduction of the ore-bearing fluid by interaction with ferrous iron-bearing silicates (biotite and pre-ore chlorite).
The Th data on primary, mostly aqueous, inclusions trapped in carbonates of the ore substage range between 152°C and 174°C
and total salinity ranges over a relatively wide interval of 3.1 to 23.1 wt% NaCl eq. Gradual reduction of the fluid system
during the post-ore substage is manifested by the appearance of a new generation of authigenic chlorite and pyrite. Chlorite
thermometry yielded temperatures of 150°C to 170°C. Solid bitumens that post-date uranium mineralization indicate radiolytic
polymerization of gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons and their derivatives. The origin of the organic compounds can be related
to the diagenetic and catagenetic transformation of organic matter in Upper Stephanian and Permian sediments. (3) K–Ar ages
on illite from post-uranium quartz-carbonate-sulfide mineralization range from 233.7 ± 4.7 to 227.5 ± 4.6 Ma and are consistent
with the early Tethys-Central Atlantic rifting and tectonic reactivation of the Variscan structures of the Bohemian Massif.
A minor part of the late Variscan uranium mineralization was remobilized during this hydrothermal event. 相似文献

In diatremes and other volcanic vents, steep bodies of volcaniclastic material having differing properties (particle size
distribution, proportion of lithic fragments, etc.) from those of the surrounding vent-filling volcaniclastic material are
often found. It has been proposed that cylindrical or cone-shaped bodies result from the passage of “debris jets” generated
after phreatomagmatic explosions or other discrete subterranean bursts. To learn more about such phenomena, we model experimentally
the injection of gas-particulate dispersions through other particles. Analogue materials (glass beads or sand) and a finite
amount of compressed air are used in the laboratory. The gas is made available by rapidly opening a valve—therefore the injection
of gas and coloured particles into a granular host is a brief (<1 s), discrete event, comparable to what occurs in nature
following subterranean explosions. The injection assumes a bubble shape while expanding and propagating upwards. In reaction,
the upper part of the clastic host moves upward and outward above the ‘bubble’, forming a ‘dome’. The doming effect is much
more pronounced for shallow injection depths (thin hosts), with dome angles reaching more than 45°. Significant surface doming
is also observed for some full-scale subterranean blasts (e.g. buried nuclear explosions), so it is not an artefact of our
setup. What happens next in the experiments depends on the depth of injection and the nature of the host material. With shallow
injection into a permeable host (glass beads), the compressed air in the “bubble’ is able to diffuse rapidly through the roof.
Meanwhile the coloured beads sediment into the transient cavity, which is also closing laterally because of inward-directed
granular flow of the host. Depending on the initial gas pressure in the reservoir, the two-phase flow can “erupt” or not;
non-erupting injections produce cylindrical bodies of coloured beads whereas erupting runs produce flaring upward or conical
deposits. Changing the particle size of the host glass beads does not have a large effect under the size range investigated
(100–200 to 300–400 μm). Doubling the host thickness (injection depth) requires a doubling of the initial gas pressure to
produce similar phenomena. Such injections—whether erupting or wholly subterranean—provide a compelling explanation for the
origin and characteristics of multiple cross-cutting bodies that have been documented for diatreme and other vent deposits. 相似文献

To determine some of the environmental effects that influence the relative proportions of pigments in algae, high pressure liquid chromatographic (HPLC) analysis was employed to determine the relative amounts of common photosynthetic pigments in batch cultures of the diatoms,Fragilaria crotonensis andThalassiosira pseudonana, and the green algae,Scenedesmus abundans, andHaematococcus pluvialis, illuminated for 12 hours each day. Similar analyses were conducted in five-day experiments during which cultures ofF. crotonensis andS. quadricauda were kept in continuous darkness. Comparing the results to those for controls continuing to receive the daily illumination indicated that the diatoms and green algae react similarly to light deficiency. The relative amounts of the main accessory pigment in the diatoms, fucoxanthin, and that in the green alga, apparently lutein, decreased as a reaction to a lack of illumination, while the total chlorophyll level in algae of both groups remained nearly constant. Quantitative differences induced by the experimental conditions were considerably less that those observed among different species of diatom or among the different green algae, however. Finally, cultures ofS. quadricauda were analyzed and then kept for 43 days without the addition of any nutrients. A proportion of the culture was kept for this period in perpetual darkness while another continued to receive 12 hours of illumination. The results show that considerable changes occur as the cultures age, and that these changes occur more slowly in the darkness. Some consequences of these findings for phytoplankton production studies based on analyses of photosynthetic pigments are discussed. 相似文献
