Olivine and spinel compositions, major elements (including ferric and ferrous iron), S, Re and Os contents have been measured for a suite of primitive (most >6 wt% MgO) basalts from the Trans Mexican Volcanic Belt (TMVB), including the western Mexican volcanic belt, the Michoacan-Guanajuato Volcanic Field, Sierra Chichinautzin, Pico de Orizaba region, Palma Sola, San Martin Tuxtlas, and the eastern alkaline province (EAP). Sulfur contents at sulfide saturation were calculated to determine whether the measured S contents are representative of sulfide saturated liquids. Most of the samples have S contents much lower than expected for sulfide saturation. A few have higher contents than calculated perhaps due to the presence of sulfate in the measured total sulfur (i.e., more oxidized samples). Comparison of the TMVB samples along with previously analyzed MORB, OIB, BABB and arc samples reveals a continuum of Re and Os contents that is best explained by variation in oxygen fugacity—and thus sulfide stability—in the source region. High Re and Os magmatic suites are best explained by derivation by melting of oxidized mantle, where sulfide is no longer stable and Re and Os behave incompatibly, whereas low Re and Os magmatic suites are derived from melting of relatively reduced mantle where sulfide is stable, and Re and Os behave compatibly. Intermediate examples abound, and arc magmas span a wide range of Re and Os concentrations due to variation of fO2 in the source during genesis of arc magmas. Low Re magmatic suites are furthermore potentially affected by volatility which can lower Re by a factor of 3-5.  相似文献

Ecosystem services are substantial elements for human society. The central challenge to meet the human needs from ecosystems while sustain the Earth’s life support systems makes it urgent to enhance efficient natural resource management for sustainable ecological and socioeconomic development. Trade-off analysis of ecosystem services can help to identify optimal decision points to balance the costs and benefits of the diverse human uses of ecosystems. In this sense, the aim of this paper is to provide key insights into ecosystem services trade-off analysis at different scales from a land use perspective, by comprehensively reviewing the trade-offs analysis tools and approaches that addressed in ecology, economics and other fields. The review will significantly contribute to future research on trade-off analysis to avoid inferior management options and offer a win-win solution based on comprehensive and efficient planning for interacting multiple ecosystem services.  相似文献

Spatial and temporal variability in surface water chemistry, organic soil chemistry and hydrologic indicators were investigated at three poor‐fen complexes in two boreal catchments in Northern Alberta to provide insight into the dominant controls on surface water chemistry. Improved understanding of these controls is required to enable prediction of runoff chemistry in the region under changing atmospheric deposition conditions. Surface water chemistry exhibited considerable variability; within each fen conductivity, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and Cl tended to decrease and pH tended to increase with increasing distance from the lake edge. Variations in evaporative isotopic enrichment in 2H and 18O, expressed as deuterium excess, were used to distinguish between throughflow waters and those that were more evaporatively enriched. Throughflow surface waters were more acidic primarily due to higher concentrations of DOC and NO3. Exchangeable base saturation and pH of organic soils were strongly related to surface water chemistry at two of the fen complexes, demonstrating the capacity for cation exchange to influence surface water chemistry. Fen surface water concentrations of most elements and DOC increased during the summer period (between June and August), while pH of water decreased. Evaporative concentration of the surface waters was a dominant driver, with surface water temperature increasing at both catchments. Localized groundwater discharge was an important contributor of base cations to the fens, while the organic soils are sinks for atmospherically deposited SO42−, N and Cl. The study of the elements and molecules of astrobiological interest on the Moon can be made with the Gas Analysis Package (GAP) and associated instruments developed for the Beagle 2 Mars Express Payload. The permanently shadowed polar regions of the Moon may offer a unique location for the “cold-trapping” of the light elements (i.e. H, C, N, O, etc.) and their simple compounds. Studies of the returned lunar samples have shown that lunar materials have undergone irradiation with the solar wind and adsorb volatiles from possible cometary and micrometeoroid impacts. The Beagle 2’s analytical instrument package including the sample processing facility and the GAP mass spectrometer can provide vital isotopic information that can distinguish whether the lunar volatiles are indigenous to the moon, solar wind derived, cometary in origin or from meteoroids impacting on the Moon. As future Lunar Landers are being considered, the suite of instruments developed for the Mars Beagle 2 lander can be consider as the baseline for any lunar volatile or resource instrument package.  相似文献

We present a survey on coronal prominence cavities conducted using 19 months of data from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) instrument aboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) satellite. Coronal cavities are elliptical regions of rarefied density lying above and around prominences. They can be long-lived (weeks to months) but are often observed to eventually erupt as part of a coronal mass ejection (CME). We determine morphological properties of the cavities both by qualitatively assessing their shape, and quantitatively fitting them with ellipses. We demonstrate consistency between these two approaches, and find that fitted ellipses are taller than they are wide for almost all cavities studied, in agreement with an earlier analysis of white-light cavities. We examine correlations between cavity shape, aspect ratio, and propensity for eruption. We find that cavities with a teardrop-shaped morphology are more likely to erupt, and we discuss the implications of this morphology for magnetic topologies associated with CME models.
