We have studied the dynamics of a macroscopically twisted helical prominence observed in H line on January 22, 1979 from Udaipur Solar Observatory. The analysis carried out is similar to that of March 11, 1979 event (Srivastava et al., 1991) wherein we had studied the role of twisted force-free magnetic fields in the prominence system. In the present study, it is found that of the two helically braided prominence tubes, one was dynamically more active. We have examined the temporal evolution of force-free parameter , and the axial currents associated with the prominence system that decreased with time. We find that the magnitude of the electric currents and also the rate of energy release during the untwisting of the prominence was of comparatively higher order 1030 ergs s-1 than that of March 11, 1979 event, in agreement with the physical dimensions of the two prominences. 相似文献

We have made a narrow band tunable filter for solar observations using a Lithium Niobate Fabry-Perot etalon. The 60 mm aperture etalon with a free spectral range of 4.22 Å and finesse of 26 at = 6122 Å has been procured from CSIRO, Australia. The wavelength tuning is achieved by applying high voltage to the etalon substrate at the rate of 0.45 Å per 1000 Volts. The filter is being used for imaging the sun in H line and obtaining Doppler- and Magnetogram in CaI 6122 Å line. We investigate the dependence of the Fanaroff–Riley (FR) 1/2 dichotomy of radio galaxies on their luminosities and redshifts. Because of a very strong redshift-luminosity correlation (Malmquist bias) in a flux-limited sample, any redshift-dependent effect could appear as a luminosity-related effect and vice versa. A question could then arise—do all the morphological differences seen in the two classes (FR 1 and 2 types) of sources, usually attributed to the differences in their luminosities, could as well be primarily a redshift-dependent effect? A sharp break in luminosity, seen among the two classes, could after all reflect a sharp redshift dependence due to a rather critical ambient density value at some cosmic epoch. A doubt on these lines does not seem to have been raised in past and things have never been examined with this particular aspect in mind. We want to ascertain the customary prevalent view in the literature that the systematic differences in the two broad morphology types of FR 1 and 2 radio galaxies are indeed due to the differences in their luminosities, and not due to a change in redshift. Here we investigate the dependence of FR 1/2 dichotomy of radio galaxies on luminosity and redshift by using the 3CR sample, where the FR 1/2 dichotomy was first seen, supplemented by data from an additional sample (MRC), that goes about a factor of 5 or more deeper in flux-density than the original 3CR sample. This lets us compare sources with similar luminosities but at different redshifts as well as examine sources at similar redshifts but with different luminosities, thereby allowing us a successful separation of the otherwise two intricately entangled effects. We find that the morphology type is not directly related to redshift and the break between the two types of morphologies seems to depend only upon the radio luminosity. 相似文献

We present a technique for automatic determination of flare ribbon separation and the energy released during the course of two-ribbon flares. We have used chromospheric Hα filtergrams and photospheric line-of-sight magnetograms to analyse flare ribbon separation and magnetic field structures, respectively. Flare ribbons were first enhanced and then extracted by the technique of “region growing”, i.e., a morphological operator to help resolve the flare ribbons. Separation of flare ribbons was then estimated from the magnetic-polarity reversal line using an automatic technique implemented into an Interactive Data Language (IDLTM) platform. Finally, the rate of flare-energy release was calculated using photospheric magnetic field data and the corresponding separation of the chromospheric Hα flare ribbons. This method could be applied to measure the motion of any feature of interest (e.g., intensity, magnetic, Doppler) from a given point of reference. 相似文献

A two-component differentially rotating disk of self-gravitating particles is considered in the hydrodynamical framework. This system is shown to sustain two pairs of density waves, corresponding to the familiar Jeans modes and an acoustic type of modes (similar to ion-acoustic modes in plasmas). As a result of mass and momentum transfer from the gaseous to the stellar component (an accretion process), the acoustic modes suffer a strong damping, whereas the Jeans modes which were oscillatory, now become overstable provided the thermal velocity of stars is larger than that of gaseous component. The waves with frequencies near the corotation have a rather large growth rate. This amplification can explain the maintenance of spiral structure and a selective amplification could even determine the wave-frequency (or pattern velocity). 相似文献

Near infrared coronal line emission at 1.98 ± 0.02Μm due to [Si VI] detected in the spectrum of Nova Herculis 1991 about 17
days after optical maximum is reported. The early appearance of coronal emission is yet another unusual feature of this fast
nova in which early onset of dust formation processes and X-ray detection five days after outburst have already been reported.
The coronal line observations reported here are consistent with X-ray detection and support a hot shocked circumstellar envelope

resolution in one dimension at the sub arc second level which is well suited for resolving close binary projected separations

As part of a program to search for the near infrared counterparts to the far infrared sources discovered by the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) we have scanned two areas including the IRAS error boxes for the sources IRAS 0453+444 and IRAS 1717-087 at 2.2 m down to the flux density limit of 1 Jy. The Cretaceous of Afghanistan is marked by great facies diversity. The evolution of Cretaceous basins is part of a complex accretionary history involving three distinct tectonic units namely the Asian (Russian) Block separated from the Indian plate by a rather well defined transcurrent fault (Chaman-Nuski). The southwestern component is representedby the Iran-Afghanistan plate. The Lower Cretaceous of the Asian Block is represented by the Red-Grit Series which isconformable to the underlying Upper Jurassic sequences. The transition is marked by evaporitic facies dominated by salt,gypsum and marl deposits. In south Afghanistan volcanic rocks occur at Farah, with the emplacement of plutonics inwest-central Afghanistan. The Upper Cretaceous of north Afghanistan is marked by richly fossiliferous, lime stone-dominated sequences. The results of an investigation carried out during June 2005 to May 2007 on bloom-forming phytoplankton species composition and abundance in the Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters(Southeast coast of India) are reported.Air and surface water temperatures(℃) varied from 25.1 to 30.1 and 24.5 to 28.5,respectively,in the former waters and from 25.5 to 31.2 and 25.0 to 29.3 in the latter waters.The respective salinities varied from 6.0 to 28.5 and 5.0 to 33.1 and the respective pH ranged between 7.0 and 8.3 and 7.2 and 8.3.Correspondingly,the dissolved oxygen content varied from 3.1 to 7.5 and 3.1 to 7.9 mgL-1 while the light extinction coefficient(LEC) values ranged between 3.1 and 10.1 and 1.8 and 11.0.The content ranges of inorganic nutrients,i.e.,nitrate,nitrite,phosphate and silicate(μmolL-1),in the Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters were:6.5-27.0;1.0-8.9;0.1-3.0 and 15.0-140 and 10.1-23.4;1.2-8.9;0.2-3.1 and 55-125 respectively.The chlorophyll a contents in both waters ranged from 2.0-7.5 μgL-1.Presently,124 phytoplankton species representing different classes were recorded in the Coleroon coast,viz,Bacillariophyceae(77);Dinophyceae(19);Cyanophyceae(15);Chlorophyceae(10) and Chrysophyceae(3),whereas 117 phytoplankton species were recorded in the Parangipettai coast,viz,Bacillariophyceae(66);Dinophyceae(22);Cyanophyceae(19);Chlorophyceae(7) and Chrysophyceae(3).The phytoplankton cell abundance in the Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters varied from 290 to 111662 and 140 to 132 757 cells L-1,respectively,with peak diversity(3.38 and 3.52 bits ind-1.) recorded in summer.The maximum abundance occurred in summer coinciding with the stable hydrographical conditions.The seasonal distribution and abundance of phytoplankton are discussed in relation to hydrographical parameters.Totally 31 and 24 species of phytoplankton were found to be bloom-forming in the Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters,respectively.Presently Trichodesmium bloom was also observed,which appeared at the 10 fathom level of the coastal water and quickly spread to the marine zone of the Vellar estuary and near the mouth region of the mangrove waters.The Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters are subject to long term fluctuations in physico-chemical conditions depending upon the seasonal tidal range and freshwater influx,resulting in a continuous exchange of organic,inorganic,plant and animal matters. 相似文献
