A study is conducted to estimate the accurate attitude of a ship's motion and the estimation is used to arrive at the corrections required for a farfield pattern of a coaxial circular array. The relevant analytical expression is developed for the computation of moving average filter weights to estimate the ship's attitude for beamsteerings at different sea conditions. Farfield patterns are presented for different steered directions for the coaxial circular array of the additive type, and the multiplicative array technique is also used for beamsteering for higher steering angles to observe its control on the sidelobes as well as for the main beamwidths. In order to introduce an adaptive filter to estimate the accurate attitude for stable sonar platform, an adaptive parameter is examined for bathymetric applications where nonstationary ship movement prevails.  相似文献

Ongoing climate change and anthropogenic activities are introducing stressors that affect the structure and function of coastal ecosystems. This paper focuses on the fluvial fluxes and estuarine transport of nutrients from a tropical river (Mahanadi River) in Northeastern India and compares select nutrient and water quality parameters between 1983 and 2008. This estuary acts as a perennial source of CO2 with a net annual flux to the atmosphere of about 135 tons. The non‐conservative fluxes showed a net annual removal of 650 and 140 tons of phosphorus and nitrogen from the water column, respectively. Negative biogeochemical feedbacks that decreased the availability of N and P in 2008 relative to 1983 levels indicate major changes in biogeochemical responses towards fluvial fluxes of nutrient.  相似文献

A probabilistic seismic hazard analysis for the states of Tripura and Mizoram in North East India is presented in this paper to evaluate the ground motion at bedrock level. Analyses were performed considering the available earthquake catalogs collected from different sources since 1731–2010 within a distance of 500 km from the political boundaries of the states. Earthquake data were declustered to remove the foreshocks and aftershocks in time and space window and then statistical analysis was carried out for data completeness. Based on seismicity, tectonic features and fault rupture mechanism, this region was divided into six major seismogenic zones and subsequently seismicity parameters (a and b) were calculated using Gutenberg–Richter (G–R) relationship. Faults data were extracted from SEISAT (Seismotectonic atlas of India, Geological Survey of India, New Delhi, 2000) published by Geological Survey of India and also from satellite images. The study area was divided into small grids of size 0.05° × 0.05° (approximately 5 km × 5 km), and the hazard parameters (rock level peak horizontal acceleration and spectral accelerations) were calculated at the center of each of these grid cells considering all the seismic sources within a radius of 500 km. Probabilistic seismic hazard analyses were carried out for Tripura and Mizoram states using the predictive ground motion equations given by Atkinson and Boore (Bull Seismol Soc Am 93:1703–1729, 2003) and Gupta (Soil Dyn Earthq Eng 30:368–377, 2010) for subduction belt. Attenuation relations were validated with the observed PGA values. Results are presented in the form of hazard curve, peak ground acceleration (PGA) and uniform hazard spectra for Agartala and Aizawl city (respective capital cities of Tripura and Mizoram states). Spatial variation of PGA at bedrock level with 2 and 10 % probability of exceedance in 50 years has been presented in the paper.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relative classification accuracies of four land covers/uses in Kenya using spaceborne quad polarization radar from the Japanese ALOS PALSAR system and optical Landsat Thematic Mapper data. Supervised signature extraction and classification (maximum likelihood) was used to classify the different land covers/uses followed by an accuracy assessment. The original four band radar had an overall accuracy of 77%. Variance texture was the most useful of four measures examined and did improve overall accuracy to 80% and improved the producer’s accuracy for urban by almost 25% over the original radar. Landsat provided a higher overall classification accuracy (86%) as compared to radar. The merger of Landsat with the radar texture did not increase overall accuracy but did improve the producer’s accuracy for urban indicated some advantages for sensor integration.  相似文献

This paper presents the removal of hazardous hexavalent chromium from liquid waste streams using divinylbenzene copolymer resin Amberlite IRA 96. Important sorption parameters such as contact time, pH, resin dosage and initial metal concentration were studied at 30?°C. The kinetic study was conducted using pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order kinetics at 30?°C. The sorption process was found to be pH dependent. Maximum removal was obtained at pH 2 under optimized conditions. The sorption process was rapid and 99?% of the removal was achieved in first 30?min. The equilibrium data were fitted to both Langmuir and Freundlich models. The better regression coefficient (R 2) in Freundlich model suggests the multilayer sorption process. The value of Gibbs free energy for sorption process was found to be ?12.394?kJmol?1. The negative value indicated the spontaneity of the sorption process. Scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy studies were conducted to find the role of surface morphology during sorption process. The Fourier transform infrared study was conducted to identify the functional groups responsible for interaction between the resin and chromium. Desorption and regeneration studies were also carried out.  相似文献

Elevated concentrations of arsenic in the sediment and pore water in the Sundarban wetlands pose an environmental risk. Adsorption and desorption are hypothesized to be the major processes controlling arsenic retention in surface sediment under oxic/suboxic condition. This study aims to investigate sorption kinetics of As(III & V) and its feedback to arsenic mobilization in the mangrove sediment. It ranges from sand to silty clay loam and shows the adsorption of As(III & V) following the Langmuir relation. Estimates of the maximum adsorption capacity are 59.11 ± 13.26 μg g−1 for As(III) and 58.45 ± 8.75 μg g−1 at 30°C for As(V) in the pH range 4 to 8 and salinity 15–30 psu. Extent of adsorption decreases with increasing pH from 4 to 8 and desorption is the rate-limiting step in the reaction of arsenic with sediment. Arsenic in the sediment could be from a Himalayan supply and co-deposited organic matter drives its release from the sediment. Arsenic concentration in the sediment is well below its maximum absorption capacity, suggesting the release of sorbed arsenic in pore water by the microbial oxidation of organic matter in the sediment with less feedback of adsorption.  相似文献

Analysis of observations from both space-borne (LASCO/SOHO, Skylab and Solar Maximum Mission) and ground-based (Mauna Loa Observatory) instruments show that there are two types of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), fast CMEs and slow CMEs. Fast CMEs start with a high initial speed, which remains more or less constant, while slow CMEs start with a low initial speed, but show a gradual acceleration. To explain the difference between the two types of CMEs, Low and Zhang (2002) proposed that it resulted from a difference in the initial topology of the magnetic fields associated with the underlying quiescent prominences, i.e., a normal prominence configuration will lead to a fast CME, while an inverse quiescent prominence results in a slow CME. In this paper we explore a different scenario to explain the existence of fast and slow CMEs. Postulating only an inverse topology for the quiescent prominences, we show that fast and slow CMEs result from different physical processes responsible for the destabilization of the coronal magnetic field and for the initiation and launching of the CME. We use a 2.5-D, time-dependent streamer and flux-rope magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model (Wu and Guo, 1997) and investigate three initiation processes, viz. (1) injecting of magnetic flux into the flux-rope, thereby causing an additional Lorentz force that will destabilize the streamer and launch a CME (Wu et al., 1997, 1999); (2) draining of plasma from the flux-rope and triggering a magnetic buoyancy force that causes the flux-rope to lift and launch a CME; and (3) introducing additional heating into the flux-rope, thereby simulating an active-region flux-rope accompanied by a flare to launch a CME. We present 12 numerical tests using these three driving mechanisms either alone or in various combinations. The results show that both fast and slow CMEs can be obtained from an inverse prominence configuration subjected to one or more of these three different initiation processes.  相似文献

Quantifications of Earth surface topography are essential for modeling the connections between physical and chemical processes of erosion and the shape of the landscape. Enormous investments are made in developing and testing process-based landscape evolution models. These models may never be applied to real topography because of the difficulties in obtaining high-resolution (1–2 m) topographic data in the form of digital elevation models (DEMs). Here we present a simple methodology to extract the high-resolution three-dimensional topographic surface from photographs taken with a hand-held camera with no constraints imposed on the camera positions or field survey. This technique requires only the selection of corresponding points in three or more photographs. From these corresponding points the unknown camera positions and surface topography are simultaneously estimated. We compare results from surface reconstructions estimated from high-resolution survey data from field sites in the Oregon Coast Range and northern California to verify our technique. Our most rigorous test of the algorithms presented here is from the soil-mantled hillslopes of the Santa Cruz marine terrace sequence. Results from three unconstrained photographs yield an estimated surface, with errors on the order of 1 m, that compares well with high-resolution GPS survey data and can be used as an input DEM in process-based landscape evolution modeling.  相似文献
