We studied fragmentation process of the interstellar molecular cloud which is predominated by supersonic turbulence with special regard to collisions of turbulent gas elements and formation of a shock-compressed layer by receding shock waves. The propagation of the shock waves and the evolution of the compressed layer are followed by one-dimensional gas dynamical simulation until self-gravity becomes significant, taking account of the effects of thermal properties of the molecular gas and magnetic fields. It is shown that the efficient cooling by CO molecules and its sensitive dependence on gas density make the shock-compressed layer so cold and dense that the layer becomes gravitationally unstable and breaks into fragments even if the gas elements are gravitationally stable prior to the collision. The mass of the unstable fragment is estimated to be about two solar masses or less, irrespective of the presence of the magnetic field. The stars formed by collisions of supersonic turbulent gas elements accelerate the surrounding gas in T Tauri stage and replenish the turbulent energy to maintain the mechanical equilibrium of the molecular cloud.  相似文献

Collapse of masonry structures during an earthquake is analyzed using the three-dimensional distinct element method (3D-DEM) code developed by the first author. The DEM is a numerical analysis technique, in which positions of elements are calculated by solving equations of motion step by step. Both individual and group behavior can be simulated. The structure is modeled as an assembly of distinct elements connected by virtual springs and dashpots, where elements come into contact. First, the validity of the developed 3D-DEM code is confirmed by comparing analytical results with static experimental results of masonry walls. Second, failure process of masonry buildings due to earthquake is investigated using DEM. Effects of reinforcing methods are also examined. Finally, injury to human bodies in the collapsing masonry buildings is also calculated. Assuming that occupants lie down on the floor, two types of casualty criteria are introduced and assessed.  相似文献

This paper presents a simulation of three components of near-field ground shaking recorded during the main shock at three stations of the September 16, 1978, Tabas (M w = 7.4), Iran, earthquake, close to the causative fault. A hybrid method composed of a discrete wavenumber method developed by Bouchon (Bouchon in Bull Seismol Soc Am 71:959–971, 1981; Cotton and Coutant in Geophys J Int 128:676–688, 1997) and a stochastic finite-fault modeling based on a dynamic corner frequency proposed by Motazedian and Atkinson (Bull Seismol Soc Am 95:995–1010, 2005), modified by Assatourians and Atkinson (Bull Seismol Soc Am 97:935–1949, 2007), is used for generating the seismograms at low (0.1–1.0 Hz) and high frequencies (1.0–20.0 Hz), respectively. The results are validated by comparing the simulated peak acceleration, peak velocity, peak displacement, Arias intensity, the integral of velocity squared, Fourier spectrum and acceleration response spectrum on a frequency-by-frequency basis, the shape of the normalized integrals of acceleration and velocity squared, and the cross-correlation with the observed time-series data. Each characteristic is compared on a scale from 0 to 10, with 10 being perfect agreement. Also, the results are validated by comparing the simulated ground motions with the modified Mercalli intensity observations reported by reconnaissance teams and showed reasonable agreement. The results of the present study imply that the damage distribution pattern of the 1978 Tabas earthquake can be explained by the source directivity effect.  相似文献

1989年中日联合青藏高原冰川考察在唐古拉山口开始进行冰川、水文气候学观测,距今已经整整20 a.时过境迁,合作双方的研究所均已重组、更名,然而1989-1993年间考察研究所起到的开创性作用、当时取得成果至今仍具有重要科学意义.而且当时建立的一些观测站点,借助一些大型课题,如GAME/Tibet、国家自然科学基金重点项目和国家重点基础研究发展计划(973计划)项目的支持一直持续工作至今.最近,完善了位于冬克玛底冰川末端的冰川监测系统,将对该地区的冰冻圈和气候环境变化研究做出更多的贡献.  相似文献

Geological sequestration of CO2 into depleted hydrocarbon reserviors or saline aquifers presents the enormous potential to reduce greenhouse gas emission from fossil fuels. However, it may give rise to a complicated coupling physical and chemical process. One of the processes is the hydro-mechanical impact of CO2 injection. During the injection project, the increase of pore pressures of storing formations can induce the instability, which finally results in a catastrophic failure of disposal sites. This paper focuses mainly on the role of CO2-saturated water in the fracturing behavior of rocks. To investigate how much the dissolved CO2 can influence the pore pressure change of rocks, acoustic emission (AE) experiments were performed on sandstone and granite samples under triaxial conditions. The main innovation of this paper is to propose a time dependent porosity method to simulate the abrupt failure process, which is observed in the laboratory and induced by the pore pressure change due to the volume dilatancy of rocks, using a finite element scheme associated with two-phase characteristics. The results successfully explained the phenomena obtained in the physical experiments.  相似文献

The propagation of the weak MHD fast-mode shock emitted into the corona by flares at their explosive phase is computer-simulated. It is shown as the result that the shock wave is refracted towards the low Alfvén velocity regions pre-existing in the corona, and the strength of the shock, which is otherwise weak, is drastically enhanced on encountering low- V A regions due to the focussing effect by refraction and also due to the lowered propagation velocity of the shock in such regions. It is expected that electron acceleration takes place in such a drastic strengthening of the shock, leading to the local excitation of plasma waves and eventually to the occurrence of radio bursts at such locations. Such locations of shock strength enhancement, when computed by using HAO realistic models of coronal density and magnetic field of the day of certain type II burst events, actually coincide roughly with the observed positions of type II bursts. Peculiar configurations of type II burst sources as well as their occurrence even beyond the horizon of the responsible flare are explained consistently by the large scale refraction and the local enhancement of the shock due to the global and local distribution of Alfvén velocity in the corona. A unified interpretation is given for the occurrence of type II bursts and Moreton's wave phenomena, and also the relation of our MHD fast-mode disturbance with other flare-associated dynamical phenomena is discussed.  相似文献

The propagation characteristics of MHD fast-mode disturbances, which can emanate from flare regions, are computed for realistic conditions of the solar corona at the times of particular flares. The path of a fast-mode disturbance is determined by the large-scale (global) coronal distributions of magnetic field and density, and can be computed by a general raytracing procedure (eikonal equation) adapted to MHD. We use the coronal (electron) density distribution calculated from daily K-coronameter data, and the coronal magnetic field calculated under the current-free approximation from magnetograph measurements of the photospheric magnetic field. We compare the path and time-development of an MHD fast-mode wavefront emitted from the flare region (as calculated from a realistic model corona for the day of the observed Moreton wave event) with actual observations of the Moreton wave event, and find that the Moreton wave can be identified with the rapidly moving intersection of the coronal fast-mode wavefront and the chromosphere (as hypothesized in our previous paper); the directivity (anisotropic propagation), as well as other characteristics of the propagation of the Moreton wave can be successfully explained.sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Nine new rock reference samples of the "Sedimentary rock series", Chert JCh-1, Dolomite JDo-1, Lake sediment JLk-1, Limestone JLs-1, Stream sediments JSd-1 to JSd-3, and Slates JS1-1 and JSl-2 have been prepared by the Geological Survey of Japan(GSJ). Thirty major, minor and trace elements were determined using atomic absorption spectrometry, flame emission spectrometry, infrared absorption spectrometry and wet chemical techniques. The results of homogeneity tests showed that almost all elements, with a few exceptions, are considered to be distributed homogeneously in each reference sample.  相似文献

The authors have presented the results of inelastic earthquake response analysis of a class of asymmetric building models and concluded that regularly asymmetric buildings excited well into the inelastic range may not be conservatively designed via modal analysis of their elastic models.  Four kinds of Cr-droped melilite crystals, Ca2MgSi2O7 (akermanite), CaAl2SiO7 (gehlenite), CaGa2SiO7 (Ga-gehlenite) and CaGa2GeO7 (GaGe-gehlenite), with different sizes of the sites for Cr ions to substitute, were grown in series, using both the CZ and FZ techniques. Although Cr4+ is regarded as a major species in melilites, the existence of Cr6+ in gehlenite is also suggested from the change in absorption spectra by annealing, and the dependence of distribution coefficient of Cr ions on growth atmosphere. Spectral peak shifts are not obvious if the host crystal field is altered in melilites, because the local environment of the sites for Cr ion is possibly changed by reforming the packing features of the host lattice.
