The Ningyo-Toge uranium deposit is one of the typical sedimentary uranium deposits in Japan. In general, during weathering, U is removed from the basal granite through underground water. The underground water in this area is rich in U, and has a comparatively high concentration of Fe and Mn.
In this area, three types of Fe minerals can be recognized in different modes of occurrence: (1) in the oxide zone brownish Fe-hydroxide mineral with ferric ion, i.e. goethite (-FeOOH); (2) in the reduced zone of the mine gallery pale-blue Fe-hydroxide mineral with some ferrous ion, i.e. lepidocrocite (γ-FeOOH); and (3) Fe-sulphate minerals such as melanterite (FeSO4·7H2O), etc. Some uranyl sulphate minerals, uranopilite and zippeite, are closely associated with these Fe-sulphate minerals. Under weakly alkaline conditions of the oxidizing environment, Mn-hydroxide (MnOOH) coexists with goethite as alternative thin laminae with shale, or coprecipitates resembling a marine Mn nodule, in the size of 0.5 cm in diameter. Radioactive anomalies have been recognized frequently for these Mn sediments due to absorption of Ra by the sediments. 相似文献
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC-11 and CFC-12) in the intermediate water having between 26.4 and 27.2 were determined at 75 stations in the western North Pacific north of 20°N and west of 175.5°E in 1993. The intermediate water of 26.4–26.6 was almost saturated with respect to the present atmospheric CFC-11 in the zone between 35 and 45°N around the subarctic front. Furthermore, the ratios of CFC-11/CFC-12 of the water were also of those formed after 1975. These suggest that the upper intermediate water (26.4–26.6) was recently formed by cooling and sinking of the surface water not by mixing with old waters. The water below the isopycnal surface of 26.8 contained less CFCs and the area containing higher CFCs around the subarctic front was greatly reduced. However, the CFC age of the lower intermediate water (26.8–27.2) in the zone around the subarctic front was not old, suggesting that the water was formed by diapycnal mixing of the water ventilated with the atmosphere with old waters not containing appreciable CFCs, probably the Pacific Deep Water. The southward spreading rate decreased with depth and it was one sixth of its eastward spreading rate of the North Pacific Intermediate Water (NPIW). 相似文献
In a disk with a low optical depth, dust particles drift radially inward by the Poynting-Robertson (P-R) drag rather than are blown out by stellar radiation pressure following destructive collisions. We investigate the radial distribution of icy dust composed of pure ice and refractory materials in dust-debris disks taking into account the P-R drag and ice sublimation. We find that icy dust particles form a dust ring by their pile-ups at the edge of their sublimation zone, where they sublime substantially at the temperature 100-110 K. The distance of the dust ring is 20-35 AU from the central star with its luminosity L??30L⊙ and 65(L?/100L⊙)1/2 AU for L??30L⊙, where L⊙ is the solar luminosity. The effective optical depth is enhanced by a factor of 2 for L??100L⊙ and more than 10 for L??100L⊙. The optical depth of the outer icy dust disk exceeds that of the inner disk filled with refractory particles, namely, the residue of ice sublimation, which are further subjected to the P-R effect. As a result, an inner hole is formed inside the sublimation zone together with a dust ring along the outer edge of the hole. 相似文献
Chemical and isotopic compositions of the Acropora nobilis skeleton were analyzed at various spatial resolutions to investigate the mechanism by which elements are incorporated into the skeleton. Chemical and isotopic profiles along growth axes of axial and radial corallites did not show seasonal variation, with the exception of the δ18O profile of the axial corallite. Detailed observations of the skeletal structure revealed that the skeletal density increased with distance from the tip because secondarily precipitated aragonite (here called the “infilling” skeleton) filled pore spaces in the “framework” skeleton. Microscale element analyses revealed that main part of the infilling skeleton had lower Mg/Ca and higher Sr/Ca and U/Ca than the framework skeleton. At microscale, Sr/Ca and U/Ca were positively correlated with each other, and negatively correlated with Mg/Ca but only weakly. The results showed that the infilling skeleton differed significantly from the adjacent framework skeleton in terms of not only formation chronology but also chemical composition, and that the bulk composition was influenced by the infilling/framework skeletal ratio. In order to use the Acropora skeleton as a paleoclimate archive, the relationship between environmental factors and the chemical composition of each skeletal component needs to be established. 相似文献
Dimethylsulfide (DMS) in surface seawater and the air, methanesulfonic acid (MSA) and non-sea-salt sulfate (nss-SO42–) in aerosol, and radon-222 (Rn-222) were measured in the northern North Pacific, including the Bering Sea, during summer (13 July – 6 September 1997). The mean atmospheric DMS concentrations in the eastern region (21.0 ± 5.8 nmole/m3 (mean ± S.D.), n=30) and Bering Sea (19.9 ± 9.8 nmole/m3, n=10) were higher than that in the western region (11.1 ± 6.4 nmole/m3, n=31) (p<0.05), although these regions did not significantly differ in the mean DMS concentration in surface seawater. Mean sea-to-air DMS flux in the eastern region (21.0 ± 10.4 mole/m2/day, n=19) was larger than those in the western region (11.3 ± 16.9 mole /m2/day, n=22) and Bering Sea (11.2 ± 7.8 mole/m2/day, n=7) (p<0.05). This suggests that the longitudinal difference in atmospheric DMS was produced by that in DMS flux owing to wind speed, while the possible causes of the higher DMS concentrations in the Bering Sea include (1) later DMS oxidation rates, (2) lower heights of the marine boundary layer, and (3) more inactive convection. The mean MSA concentrations in the eastern region (1.18 ± 0.84 nmole/m3, n=35) and Bering Sea (1.17 ± 0.87 nmole/m3, n=13) were higher than that in the western region (0.49 ± 0.25 nmole/m3, n=28) (p < 0.05). Thus the distribution of MSA was similar to that of DMS, while the nss-SO42– concentrations were higher near the continent. This suggests that nss-SO42– concentrations were regionally influenced by anthropogenic sulfur input, because the distribution of nss-SO42– was similar to that of Rn-222 used as a tracer of continental air masses. 相似文献
The response of phytoplankton to the Beaufort shelf-break eddies in the western Arctic Ocean is examined using the eddy-resolving coupled sea ice–ocean model including a lower-trophic marine ecosystem formulation. The regional model driven by the reanalysis 2003 atmospheric forcing from March to November captures the major spatial and temporal features of phytoplankton bloom following summertime sea ice retreat in the shallow Chukchi shelf and Barrow Canyon. The shelf-break warm eddies spawned north of the Barrow Canyon initially transport the Chukchi shelf water with high primary productivity toward the Canada Basin interior. In the eddy-developing period, the anti-cyclonic rotational flow along the outer edge of each eddy moving offshore occasionally traps the shelf water. The primary production inside the warm eddies is maintained by internal dynamics in the eddy-maturity period. In particular, the surface central area of an anti-cyclonic eddy acquires adequate light, nutrient, and warm environment for photosynthetic activity partly attributed to turbulent mixing with underlying nutrient-rich water. The simulated biogeochemical properties with the dominance of small-size phytoplankton inside the warm eddies are consistent with the observational findings in the western Arctic Ocean. It is also suggested that the light limitation before autumn sea ice freezing shuts down the primary production in the shelf-break eddies in spite of nutrient recovery. These results indicate that the time lag between the phytoplankton bloom in the shelf region following the summertime sea ice retreat and the eddy generation along the Beaufort shelf break is an important index to determine biological regimes in the Canada Basin. 相似文献
We have determined the MLT distribution and KpKP dependence of the ion upflow and downflow of the thermal bulk oxygen ion population based on a data analysis using the EISCAT VHF radar CP-7 data obtained at Tromsø during the period between 1990 and 1996: (1) both ion upflow and downflow events can be observed at any local time (MLT), irrespective of dayside and nightside, and under any magnetic disturbance level, irrespective of quiet and disturbed levels; (2) these upflow and downflow events are more frequently observed in the nightside than in the dayside; (3) the upflow events are more frequently observed than the downflow events at any local time except midnight and at any KP level and the difference of the occurrence frequencies between the upflow and downflow events is smaller around midnight; and (4) the occurrence frequencies of both the ion upflow and downflow events appear to increase with increasing KP level, while the occurrence frequency of the downflow appears to stop increasing at some KP level 相似文献
The distributions of CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) in the water column was determined twice in 2000 and 2001 in the northwestern
Japan Sea. In 2000 the CFC-11 concentration decreased almost exponentially with depth from 6 pmol/kg at a few hundred m deep
to 0.3 pmol/kg or less at the bottom of about 3400 m depth at three stations (40–41°N, 132–133°E) about 300 km off Vladivostok.
In 2001 the CFC-11 concentration increased sharply up to 2 pmol/kg in the bottom water, while it did not increase at a station
(42.0°N, 136.5°E) about 450 km away to the northeast. This is due to the renewal of the bottom water which is replaced by
the surface water flowing down along the continental slope, as suggested by Tsunogai et al. (1999), who proposed the continental shelf pump. Furthermore, an increase in the CFC-11 concentration was observed throughout
the entire water column above 3000 m depth, although the proportion of the increase was about 20%, which was one order of
magnitude smaller than that in the bottom water. The increase in inventory is almost four times larger than that in the bottom
water below 3000 m depth which is equivalent to about 1/6 of the total inventory found in 2000. The increase also means that
3% of the deep water was replaced by the recent surface water, or, if the turnover occurs every year, that the turnover time
of the deep water to be about 30 years.
This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date. 相似文献
Understanding the effects of anthropogenic eutrophication on coastal fisheries may help in the enhancement of fishery production by effective utilization of sewage effluents, as well as in the consequent reduction of eutrophication. In this study, it was revealed that the nitrogen stable isotope ratio (δ15N) in the soft tissues of the manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum, can be used as an indicator of anthropogenic eutrophication levels in tidal flat environments by investigation of δ15N in dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), particulate organic matter (POM), sedimentary organic matter (SOM) and soft tissues of the clam in five tidal flats in Japan with different levels of DIN concentration. In addition, it was found that the acid insoluble fraction of the shell organic matrix, conchiolin, can be used as a proxy for the soft tissues in δ15N analyses. This will contribute in easier storage handling and the expansion of chances for sample acquisition. 相似文献
We used time-series sediment trap data for four major components, organic matter and ballast minerals (CaCO3, opal, and lithogenic matter) from 150, 540, and 1000 m in the western subarctic Pacific (WSAP), where opal is the predominant
mineral in sinking particles, to develop four simple models for settling particles, including the “ballast model”. The ballast
model is based on the concept that most of the organic matter “rain” in the deep sea is carried by the minerals. These four
models are designed to simultaneously reproduce the flux of each major component of settling particles at 540 and 1000 m by
using the data for each component at 150 m as initial values. Among the four models, the ballast model, which considers the
sinking velocity increase with depth, was identified as the best using the Akaike information criterion as a measure of the
model fit to data. This model successfully reproduced the flux of organic matter at 540 and 1000 m, indicating that the ballast
model concept works well in the shallow zone of the WSAP on a seasonal timescale. This also suggests that ballast minerals
not only physically protect the organic matter from degradation during the settling process but also enhance the sinking velocity
and reduce the degree of decomposition. 相似文献
