Experiments on the immiscible displacement of water by air were performed in two horizontal artificial open rough-walled fractures with different correlation structures. The aperture field of the first fracture has a Gaussian variogram with a finite correlation length, while that of the second one has a power-law variogram, for which no finite correlation length can be assigned. We simulated the displacement process using an invasion percolation model, which takes the in-plane curvature of the interface between water and air into account. The correlation structure of the aperture field has no effect on the irregularity of the shape of the air clusters. However, the correlation structure in combination with the in-plane curvature influences the density of the air clusters and thus has an impact on characteristic properties of the flow. We analyze the model parameters and properties with respect to the fracture properties. The stochastic average of the air clusters for models with different curvature numbers and fields with different correlation lengths is then calculated in order to analyze their influence on continuum approach models.  相似文献

On the basis ofI-I plots, we find that the ISM radiates preferentially at two pairs of far-infrared frequencies which correspond to (scattered) black-body temperatures of (23 ± 1, 187 ± 5) K and (39 ± 1, 104 ± 5) K. A huge filament eruption of 12 September 2000 associated with a two-ribbon spotless flare is described. During the acceleration phase the shape of the filament changed, and signatures of topological restructuring of large-scale coronal magnetic fields were inferred by tracking changes of nearby coronal holes. At the same time electron beams associated with the flare impulsive phase escaped into interplanetary space. Based on the time–spatial relationships a hypothesis is put forward, according to which the reconnection between the arcade magnetic field and the ambient field provides a temporary link between the open field lines and the flare energy release site, enabling the escape of electron beams into interplanetary space.  相似文献

We present the results of a re-examination of a [Ne II] line emission data cube (λ 12.8μm) and discuss the kinematic structure of the inner 3×4 pc of the Galaxy. The quality of [Ne II] as a tracer of ionized gas is examined by comparing it to radio data. A three-dimensional representation of the data cube allows us to disentangle features which are projected onto the same location on the sky. A model of gas streams in different planes is fitted to the data. We find that most of the material is located in a main plane which itself is defined by the inner edge of the Circum-Nuclear Disk in the Galactic Center. Finally, we present a possible three-dimensional model of the gas streams.  相似文献

The hydrodynamic interaction of an accretion disc with its central object is reanalysed within the framework of the slim-disc approximation. Arguments are presented against an interpretation of the total angular momentum flux as an eigenvalue of the system. A simple intuitive consideration is provided, which shows that the central object may be in a state of stationary rotation even if the disc imposes the constraint of a finite angular momentum flux into it. It is argued that equilibrium rotation is characterized by vanishing viscous torque rather than by zero total angular momentum flux. As a consequence, the central object can be in a state of stationary rotation below the break-up limit, although its angular momentum increases. Despite accretion, even for positive total angular momentum flux and subcritical rotation, central objects are spun down within a considerable range of their parameters. The results are illustrated by application to FU Orionis systems.  相似文献

Within the more than 30 yr of cosmic ray astrophysics, neither their origin nor their precise mode of propagation have found undisputable explanations. Among the favoured boosters have been point sources, like supernovae and pulsars, as well as extended sources, like cosmic clouds and supernova remnants. Extended sources have been proposed by Fermi (1949), and pushed more recently by a number of investigators because of the huge available reservoirs, and because repetitive shock acceleration can generate power law spectra which are similar to the ones observed (Axfordet al., 1977; Bell, 1978; Blandford and Ostriker, 1978; Krymsky, 1977). Yet the shock acceleration model cannot easily be adjusted to achieve particle energies in excess of some critical energy, of order 104±1 GeV (Völket al., 1981). For this and several other reasons, the suggestion is revived that neutron stars are the dominant source of high-energy cosmic rays. To be more precise: the (relativistic) ionic component of the cosmic rays is argued to be injected by young binary neutron stars (?105 yr) whose rotating magnetospheres act like grindstones in the wind of their companion (Kundt, 1976). The high-energy (?30 GeV) electron-positron component may be generated by young pulsars (?105 yr) and by collision processes, and the electron component below 30 GeV predominantly by supernova remnants.  相似文献

Data on the spectrum and center-to-limb variation of the solar Lyman continuum have been analyzed. They show: (a) The brightness temperature of the Lyman continuum is about 6500 K, but the kinetic temperature, as deduced from the slope of the continuum, lies between 8000 and 9000 K. The difference between the kinetic temperature and the brightness temperature requires that the source function be smaller than the Planck function by a factor of several hundred. (b) The Lyman continuum exhibits slight limb darkening longward of 825 Å, and slight limb brightening shortward of 750 Å. The crossover point varies from equator to pole and with solar activity. (c) The slope d ln I()/d of the Lyman continuum decreases toward the limb, implying that the kinetic temperature increases outward in the region of Lyman continuum formation.Using radiative transfer calculations for a plane-parallel atmosphere in hydrostatic equilibrium, we have derived a homogeneous model of the upper chromosphere that reproduces the main features of the observations. It is characterized by a temperature of 8300 K and a pressure of about 0.15 dyne/cm2 at Lyc = 1, and it has an abrupt temperature rise at a height of 1500 km above the limb. More precise agreement with the observations will require a detailed treatment of the inhomogeneous nature of the upper chromosphere.  相似文献

Photographic and photoelectric observations of comet P/Halley's ion gas coma from CO+ at 4250 ? were part of the Bochum Halley Monitoring Program, conducted from 1986 February 17, to April 17 at the European Southern Observatory on La Silla (Chile). In this spectral range it is possible to watch the continuous formation, motion and expansion of plasma structures. To observe the morphology of these structures 32CO+ photos (glass plates) from P/Halley's comet have been analysed. They have a field of view of 28°.6× 28°.6 and were obtained from 1986 March 29, to April 17 with exposure times between 20 and120 minutes. All photos were digitized with a PDS 2020 GM (Photometric Data System) microdensitometer at the Astronomisches Institut derWestf?lischen Wilhelms-Universit?t in Münster (one pixel= 25 μm × 25 μm ≈ 46′.88×46′.88). After digitization the data were reduced to relative intensities, and the part with proper calibrations were also converted to absolute intensities, expressed in terms of column densities using the image data systems MIDAS (Munich Image Data Analysis System; ESO – Image Processing Group, 1988) and IHAP (Image Handling And Processing; Middleburg, 1983). With the help of the Stellingwerf-Theta-Minimum-Method (Stellingwerf, 1978) a period of (2.22 ± 0.09) days results from analysis of structures in the plasma-coma by subtracting subsequent images. This method is also compared with the Fourier method. There may be a second cycle with a period of about 3.6 days. The idea behind subtracting subsequent images is that rotation effects are only 10% phenomena on gas distribution. Difference images are than used to suppress the static component of the gas cloud. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献
