Summary The changes in the anisotropy of initial susceptibility of haematite ores, induced by a D.C. magnetic field are studied. After applying stronger magnetic fields, the changes in the anisotropy parameters are considerable and depend on the manner in which the basal planes of the haematite grains are arranged in the samples. The experimental results are interpreted on the basis of the single-domain theory. The proposed simple model of induced anisotropy is based on the relation between the directional susceptibility of the sample and the preferred orientation of the magnetic moments of the grains in polycrystalline haematite.

Anoxic conditions in the near-bottom layer below the pycnocline were observed in September 1983 causing mass mortality of benthic macrofauna in the central part of the Gulf of Trieste. The vertical transport of particulate organic matter and decomposition of abundant pelagic and benthic organic matter during the summer produced a low oxygen level in the near-bottom layer below the pycnocline when this layer was sufficiently close to the bottom. A high sea water temperature and vertical stability contributed to the development of anoxic conditions in September 1983 in the near-bottom layer.  相似文献

Summary Porcellanites and palaeo-slags from North Bohemia are natural materials which can be used to derive the palaeomagnetic directions and palaeointensity of the geomagnetic field active at the time of caustic alteration. The origin of these rocks, called erdbrands, was due to the caustic alteration of predominantly pelitic sediments as a result of underground fires conditioned by spontaneous ignition of coal seams. The caustic alteration occurred during the Upper Pliocene to the Quaternary. Three procedure based on the methods by Thellier and Nagata are presented in the paper. The newly developed apparatus MAVACS (Magnetic Vacuum Control System) was used for the thermal demagnetization of samples. A procedure based on multi-component analysis was also proposed and tested. Besides some methodic results, it was found that the geomagnetic field intensity varied during the respective period within the limits of 48%±4% to 154%±32% of the present geomagnetic field intensity.

Summary Daily precipitation amounts ofconvective days, for some 20 May–September seasons (covering periods both before and after activation of the hail suppression), were analysed for 3 stations in the protected and 4 in the unprotected area. A tentative conclusions derived from this study is that precipitation at the protected stations in the period of suppression changed from the preceding period in a way which cannot be explained by similar changes at the unprotected stations. This change is attributed to the inadvertent hail suppression effect. The point estimate of the change is an increase of 23% (on convective days). At the 95% confidence level the estimate shows an increase in the interval (8%, 40%). A rough estimate of theseasonal increase for the protected area is about 30 mm.
Zusammenfassung Die Tagesniederschlagsmengenkonvektiver Tage wurden über einen Zeitraum von etwa 20 Jahren (jeweils Mai bis September), wobei dies sowohl die Zeit vor als auch nach Einführung der Hagelabwehr beinhaltet, an drei Stationen im Abwehrgebiet und an vier außerhalb gelegenen analysiert. Das vorläufige Ergebnis der Studie zeigt Veränderungen der Niederschläge in geschützten Gebieten im Vergleich zur vorhergehenden Periode, die an den Vergleichsstationen nicht aufzufinden sind.Diese Veränderungen werden unbeabsichtigten Nebenwirkungen der Hagelunterdrückung zugeschrieben. Punktuelle Schätzungen ergaben eine Niederschlagszunahme von 23% (an Konvektivtagen). Im 95% Konfidenzintervall zeigten sie einen Anstieg im Bereich zwischen 8% bis 40%. Eine ungefähre Schätzung derjahreszeitlichen Niederschlagsmengen ergibt einen Zuwachs von etwa 30 mm.

Some properties of the system of normal equations, when measuring points are distributed in a regular grid, are discussed. Summary A two-sided recursive inverse filtering procedure, originally proposed by R. Vích, is used to restore the true ground motion from digital records of inertial electromagnetic seismographs. Numerical simulations of far-field and near-field P-wave seismograms are used to test the performance of the procedure and to derive criteria for recognizing successful restorations. The procedure is applied to seismograms of local microearthquakes as well as of teleseismic events, and the restored signals are compared with those obtained by causal (one-sided) inverse filtering. In all cases the two-sided approach proved to have fundamental advantages: a higher accuracy of the approximation of the true ground motion, a faster convergence to the best attainable approximation, a lower sensitivity to incoherent noise, and a more reliable discrimination between veracious and dubious results.  相似文献

We present a fine vertical distribution of physico-chemical parameters and phytoplankton density around the halocline (freshwater/seawater interface) in the Krka estuary on the East coast of the Adriatic Sea. Suspended matter, surfactant activity, surface active aggregates, particulate organic carbon and phaeophytin all show largest concentrations in the 20–50 cm thick interface layer. The highest concentration of chlorophyll-a is found on the upper boundary of the interface and it is a consequence of majority of viable freshwater phytoplankton cells that accumulate there. The phytoplankton accumulates selectively in the interface: larger size fractions accumulate faster than smaller ones. In particular, nanoplanakton accumulates the least. The visible interface is also populated by dead phytoplankton cells. Most of the freshwater phytoplankton dies and decomposes in the interface, as revealed by a small chlorophyll-a/phaeophytin ratio, and it represents the main source of surface active dissolved and particulate organic matter. Marine flagellates migrate and divide in the interface, while some species likeProrocentrum micans andSyracosphera sp. are also found in the upper freshwater layer.  相似文献
