To determine the long-term landscape evolution of the Albertine Rift in East Africa, low-temperature thermochronology was applied and the cooling history constrained using thermal history modelling. Acquired results reveal (1) “old” cooling ages, with predominantly Devonian to Carboniferous apatite fission-track ages, Ordovician to Silurian zircon (U–Th)/He ages and Jurassic to Cretaceous apatite (U–Th–Sm)/He ages; (2) protracted cooling histories of the western rift shoulder with major phases of exhumation in mid-Palaeozoic and Palaeogene to Neogene times; (3) low Palaeozoic and Neogene erosion rates. This indicates a long residence time of the analysed samples in the uppermost crust, with the current landscape surface at a near-surface position for hundreds of million years. Apatite He cooling ages and thermal history models indicate moderate reheating in Jurassic to Cretaceous times. Together with the cooling age distribution, a possible Albertine high with a distinct relief can be inferred that might have been a source area for the Congo Basin. 相似文献

Calibration of airborne gamma ray spectrometric system (AGRS) over standard radioactive sources of known elemental abundances is essential before carrying out airborne surveys. In India, fixed calibration pads were constructed in 1985. Since then calibration of AGRS system was carried out over the fixed pads. However the fixed pads are expensive to build and maintain. Also the large pads are subject to variations in radiation output due to variable moisture content and radon loss. Alternate approach is to construct transportable calibration pads which are discussed in this paper.Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration & Research (AMD) under Department of Atomic Energy has recently constructed five transportable calibration pads. Three pads i.e. K, U and Th have been spiked with the respective radioelements while keeping the minor radioelements to the least in order to obtain pure spectra. A composite pad has been constructed which contains all the three radioelements. This helps in cross verifying the obtained calibration results. A background pad has also been constructed which is helpful to obtain the background values during calibration.Analysis of the data acquired over the transportable pads with airborne gamma ray spectrometer (16.8 ltr) has been carried out and presented in this paper. A comparison with the data acquired over the fixed calibration pads is also included. There is a good agreement of results which suggests the use of transportable pads in future. 相似文献

The automatic extraction of information content from remotely sensed data is always challenging. We suggest a novel fusion approach to improve the extraction of this information from mono-satellite images. A Worldview-2 (WV-2) pan-sharpened image and a 1/5000-scaled topographic vector map (TOPO5000) were used as the sample data. Firstly, the buildings and roads were manually extracted from WV-2 to point out the maximum extractable information content. Subsequently, object-based automatic extractions were performed. After achieving two-dimensional results, a normalized digital surface model (nDSM) was generated from the underlying digital aerial photos of TOPO5000, and the automatic extraction was repeated by fusion with the nDSM to include individual object heights as an additional band for classification. The contribution was tested by precision, completeness and overall quality. Novel fusion technique increased the success of automatic extraction by 7% for the number of buildings and by 23% for the length of roads. 相似文献

We consider strings with the Nambu action as extremal surfaces in a given space-time, thus, we ignore their back reaction. Especially, we look for strings sharing one symmetry with the underlying space-time. If this is a non-null symmetry the problem of determining ihc motion of the string can be dimensionally reduced. We get exact solutions for the following cases: straight and circle-like strings in a Friedmann background, straight strings in an anisotropic Kasner background, different types of strings in the metric of a gravitational wave. The solutions will be discussed. Wir betrachten Strings mit der Nambu-Wirkung als Extremalflächen in einer gegebenen Raum-Zeit, d. h., wir ignorieren ihre Rückwirkung. Wir interessieren uns dabei besonders für solche Strings, die eine Isometrie mit der unterliegenden Raum-Zeit gemeinsam haben. Handelt es sich dabei um eine nicht-lichtartige Symmetrie, so läß Bt sich das Problem der Bestimmung der Stringbewegung dimensionsreduzieren. Wir erhalten exakte Lösungen für die folgenden Fälle: gerade und kreisrunde Strings im Friedmann-Hintergrund, gerade Strings im anisotropen Kasner-Hintergrund sowie verschiedene Stringtypen in der Metrik einer Gravitationswelle.
