Micropiles are being increasingly utilized in foundation rehabilitation and seismic retrofitting projects. The function of the micropiles in these projects is to enhance the foundation ultimate capacity as well as reduce foundation deflection. This paper focuses on an analytical model for micropile load-displacement behavior subjected to compressive as well as tensile loading. The soil-micropile interaction is considered explicitly in the model development. Furthermore, to keep the model simple and accessible to designers, the micropile-soil interface is assumed to be linearly elastic-perfectly plastic and homogeneous with depth. Closed form expressions of micropile deformation as a function of applied load are presented. These expressions are used to study the effect of model parameters on micropile yield behavior. Micropile strain distribution and the load transfer behavior calculated by the model are discussed. The model calculations are compared with the field measured load-displacement curves. The measured micropile load-displacement data available in the literature are analyzed to evaluate the model parameters. A considerable amount of colloidally bound Ca has been detected in water samples from Amazonian rivers and the Kalix River, a sub-arctic boreal river. Fractionation experiments using several analytical techniques and processing tools were conducted in order to elucidate the matter. Results show that on average 84% of the total Ca concentration is present as free Ca. Particulate, colloidal and complexed Ca constitute the remaining 16%, of which the colloidal fraction is significant. Ultrafiltration experiments show that the colloidal fraction in the sampled Amazonian rivers and the Kalix River range between 1% and 25%.In both the Amazonian and the Kalix rivers the technique of cross-flow ultrafiltration was used to isolate particles and colloids. The difference in concentration measured with ICP-AES and a Ca ion-selective electrode in identical samples was used to define the free Ca concentration and thus indirectly the magnitude of the particulate, colloidal and complexed fractions. Results from the Kalix and Amazonian rivers are in excellent agreement. Furthermore, the results show that the colloidal concentrations of Ca can be greatly overestimated (up to 227%) when conventional analysis and calculation of ultrafiltration data is used due to retention of free Ca ions during the ultrafiltration process. Calculation methods for colloidal matter are presented in this work, using complementary data from ISE analysis.In the Kalix River temporal changes in the fractionation of Ca were studied before, during and after a spring-flood event. Changes in the size distribution of colloidally associated Ca was studied using FlFFF (Flow Field-Flow Fractionation) coupled on-line to a HR ICP-MS. The FlFFF-HR ICP-MS fractograms clearly show the colloidal component of Ca, supporting the ultrafiltration findings. During winter conditions the size distribution of colloidally associated Ca has a concentration maximum at ∼5 to 10 nm in diameter, shifting to smaller sizes (<5 nm) during and after the spring flood. This shift in size distribution follows a change in the river during this period from ironoxyhydroxy colloids being the most important colloidal carrier phase to humic substances during and after the spring flood.WHAM and NICA-Donnan models were used to calculate the amount of colloidally bound Ca. The results similar for both models, show that on average 16% of the Ca may be associated to a colloidal phase, which is in broad agreement with the measurements.  相似文献

The direction of convergence between the Rivera and North American plates becomes progressively more oblique (in a counter-clockwise sense as measured relative to the trench-normal direction) northwestward along the Jalisco subduction zone. By analogy to other subduction zones, the forces resulting from this distribution of convergence directions are expected to produce a NW moving, fore-arc sliver and a NW–SE stretching of the fore-arc area. Also, a series of roughly arc parallel strike-slip faults may form in the fore-arc area, both onshore and offshore, as is observed in the Aleutian arc.In the Jalisco subduction zone, the Jalisco block has been proposed to represent such a fore-arc sliver. However, this proposal has encountered one major problem. Namely, right-lateral strike-slip faulting within the fore-arc sliver, and between the fore-arc sliver and the North American plate, should be observed. However, evidence for the expected right-lateral strike-slip faulting is sparse. Some evidence for right-lateral strike-slip faulting along the Jalisco block–North American plate boundary (the Tepic–Zacoalco rift system) has been reported, although some disagreement exists. Right-lateral strike-slip faulting has also been reported within the interior of the Jalisco block and in the southern Colima rift, which forms the SE boundary of the Jalisco block.Threefold, multi-channel seismic reflection data were collected in the offshore area of the Jalisco subduction zone off Manzanillo in April 2002 during the FAMEX campaign of the N/O L'Atalante. These data provide additional evidence for recent strike-slip motion within the fore-arc region of the Jalisco subduction zone. This faulting offsets right-laterally a prominent horst block within the southern Colima rift, from which we conclude that the sense of motion along the faulting is dextral. These data also provide additional evidence for recent subsidence within the area offshore of Manzanillo, as has been proposed.  相似文献

This paper describes how to measure turbulence in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) in order to address certain problems in modern atmospheric physics. These problems mainly relate to the Earth's energy budget (including the hydrological cycle) and biogeochemical cycles. Starting from the main characteristic numbers and the basic equations of atmospheric turbulent flow, we show what turbulence parameters are important to measure. Special attention is given to the various methods used to compute the turbulent fluxes. We analyse the range of scales which has to be measured to properly capture the eddies contributing to the turbulent transfers. This range of scales determines what sensors can be used in the atmospheric surface layer and in the ABL. We describe the most widely used instruments and their performances. The principal platforms used to deploy these instruments are examined. Aircraft are described in more details, because they allow a thorough exploration of the ABL. In the last section, some examples of ABL turbulence signals measured in various conditions are presented. These examples illustrate horizontally homogeneous turbulence as well as inhomogeneous signals for which standard analysis techniques cannot be used. We show how some recent techniques, like wavelet transforms, can help to investigate this kind of signal. At the end, we present what would be interesting to do in the near future for the study of ABL turbulence.  相似文献

Nitrogen isotopes in peridotitic diamonds from Fuxian, China, suggest that the upper mantle δ15N-value has been globally homogeneous since at least the Proterozoic (−5 to −8‰/ATM), with similar values for subcontinental and MORB mantle.
  In addition, Fuxian diamonds retain the memory of a primary nitrogen lower in δ15N (down to −25‰). For the first time δ15N- values in diamonds match those of enstatite chondrites, supporting a formation of the Earth from such meteorites and the idea of a heterogeneous accretion of the Earth's volatiles.
  Nitrogen concentrations in diamonds are believed to depend strongly on the rate of the diamond growth and not to be an indicator of C/N ratios of the fluids from which they grew.  相似文献

Fracture Density Distributions and Well Yields in Coastal Maine   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Understanding the distribution of water-bearing fractures in crystalline rock is an important component in evaluating the availability and vulnerability of water resources throughout the northeastern U.S. The State of Maine requests well drillers to report estimates of fracture depths and fracture yields for all bedrock wells drilled in the state. Using these data we analyze fracture-depth and fracture-yield data from 227 bedrock wells in coastal Maine in order to understand how fracture locations and yields are distributed with depth. Numerical simulations and statistical tests show that it is not possible to infer how fractures are distributed with depth: fracture depths are consistent with several distributions, including uniform fracture density with depth. In order to understand how fracture yield varies with depth, we group yield data into 50 foot depth intervals and compare distributions in each interval using nonparametric statistical tests. These tests show that the distribution of fracture yield in different depth intervals are statistically equivalent. These results imply that there is no empirical justification for limiting well depth when drilling for water resources in fractured bedrock in coastal Maine.  相似文献

The determination of moving average (MA) models from a prior autoregressive (AR) approximation of a specified (target) spectral matrix is addressed; this is done in context with the need to simulate ground shaking and other natural phenomena as multivariate random processes. First, an existing technique based on a direct modeling of the target expression is revisited. In this regard, the influence of the order of the prior AR approximation, and the number of its harmonics used in the determination of the MA model, is described. Further, a simple selection technique of these parameters is presented that leads to an optimum MA approximation. Next, the relationship between a method based on the Cholesky factorization of the coveriance matrix and the present technique is investigated to derive additional insight into its convergence properties. Finally, an alternative modeling technique based on an AR representation of the inverse of the target spectral matrix is presented.  相似文献

A mesoscale shear convective cell was observed with a Doppler sodar and a minisodar on May 22, 1983 near the Netherland Coast. Boundary-layer modifications associated with fair weather precipitating clouds were observed and a separation is undertaken between the different scales of the perturbations. There is difficulty in estimating the turbulent dissipation rate by the inertial method in the presence of mesoscale perturbations, which suggests the need for independent computation of spatial structure functions of velocity fluctuations and spectral density of velocity fluctuations as functions of frequency to observe the relationship between wave lengths and frequencies.C.O.A.S.T.: Cooperative Experiment with Acoustic Sounding Techniques.  相似文献

Gold has been measured in water and suspended particulate matter samples coming from the Oubangui-Congo system. Gold anomalies up to 800 pico M/l were measured at two different locations. These are interpreted as the result of gold transport by dissolved organic complexes. Everywhere else the gold content is in the range of 10−11M/l and gold is present as an aurous hydroxichloride complex.The knowledge of both discharge rates and gold content allows a quantification of the gold input into the Atlantic ocean. Respective values for dissolved and particulate gold input are equal to 2.86 t/a and 2.95 t/a. Both chemical denudation and physical weathering rates were computed from this new set of data.  相似文献
