Precipitation amounts simulated by the regional climate model COSMO-CLM are compared with observations from rain gauges at German precipitation stations for the period 1960–2000. The model overestimates precipitation by about 26 %. This bias is accompanied with a shift of the frequency distribution of rain intensities. The model overestimation varies regionally. A correction function is derived which adjusts rain intensities at every model grid point to the observations. 相似文献

Abstract From 16 AVHRR infrared satellite images of the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, collected during the five summers of 1984–1988, 4 alongshore temperature transects were sampled. Upon Fourier transforming the transect data, we found that the energy spectra of the temperature variance in alongshore wavenumber space in general followed a –2.1 power law, which agreed with previous observations from other parts of the world. Summer images may be divided into 2 types: upwelling dominated and non‐upwelling dominated. When a strong upwelling‐induced alongshore cold front was observed, the regimes shoreward and seaward of the front had distinctly different spectra. Cross‐spectral analysis of transect data between images taken a day apart in the presence of strong upwelling events revealed significant coherence at the low wavenumber regime (wavelength 300 km and above, corresponding to the large eddies) and often at the high wavenumber regime (wavelength 30 km or below, corresponding to the fine structures of the eddies). The coherence dropped for images taken 2 or more days apart, suggesting a decorrelation time‐scale of about 2 days. In the absence of strong upwelling and associated eddies, summer transect temperature data from different years often showed a similar alongshore linear trend in addition to possible large differences in the mean temperature. 相似文献

Eleven plant communities of the central Tibetan ecotone (31°20′-33°00′N/89°00′-92°10′E) between the Kobresia pygmaea grazing pastures of the eastern highlands and the open short grass steppe with cushion plants (“Alpine Steppe”) of the north-western highlands have been described on the basis of 189 plot-based floristically complete vegetation records. In parallel, remote sensing techniques distinguish four main land-use cover types. Our hypotheses are: (1) The plant communities of the central Tibetan highlands are grazing-adapted and resilient to degradation. (2) In contrast to grazing resilient plant functional types, the turf cover of the K. pygmaea pastures and the Kobresia schoenoides wetlands is degradable through desiccation, periglacial processes, soil-dwelling small mammals and livestock. Five grazing-related plant functional traits are introduced. Grazing tolerance is the prevalent functional type. Species with no specific protection against grazing make up not more than 6% of the total cover. Unpalatable plants cover up to 8%. Only the azonal K. schoenoides swamps - the indispensable winter grazing reserve - have been widely degraded and depleted by 75%, being replaced by Carex sagaensis grazing pastures. It can be foreseen that governmental policy of sedentarisation of nomads will lead to reduced grazing mobility and degradation of winter grazing reserves. 相似文献

This study presents an approach for chlorophyll content determination of small shallow water bodies (kettle holes) from hyperspectral airborne ROSIS and HyMap data (acquired on 15 May and 29 July 2008 respectively). Investigated field and airborne spectra for almost all kettle holes do not correspond to each other due to differences in ground sampling distance. Field spectra were collected from the height of 30–35 cm (i.e. area of 0.01–0.015 m2). Airborne pixels of ROSIS and HyMap imageries cover an area of 4 m2 and 16 m2 respectively and their spectra are highly influenced by algae or bottom properties of the kettle holes. Analysis of airborne spectra revealed that chlorophyll absorption near 677 nm is the same for both datasets. In order to enhance absorption properties, both airborne hyperspectral datasets were normalized by the continuum removal approach. Linear regression algorithms for ROSIS and HyMap datasets were derived using normalized average chlorophyll absorption spectra for each kettle hole. Overall accuracy of biomass mapping for ROSIS data was 71%, and for HyMap 64%. Biomass mapping results showed that, depending on the type of kettle hole, algae distribution, the ‘packaging effect’ and bottom reflection lead to miscalculations of the chlorophyll content using hyperspectral airborne data. 相似文献

Rice fields are an important source for the greenhouse gas methane. In Italian rice field soil CH4 is produced either by hydrogenotrophic and acetoclastic methanogenesis, or by hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis and syntrophic acetate oxidation when temperatures are below and above about 40-45 °C, respectively. In order to see whether these acetate consumption pathways differently discriminate the stable carbon isotopes of acetate, we measured the δ13C of total acetate and acetate-methyl as well as the δ13C of CO2 and CH4 in rice field soil that had been pre-incubated at 45 °C and then shifted to different temperatures between 25 and 50 °C. Acetate transiently accumulated to about 6 mM, which is about one-third of the amount of CH4 produced, irrespective of the incubation temperature and the CH4 production pathway involved. However, the patterns of δ13C of the CH4 and CO2 produced were different at low (25, 30, 35 °C) versus high (40, 45, 50 °C) temperatures. These patterns were consistent with CH4 being exclusively formed by hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis at high temperatures, and by a combination of acetoclastic and hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis at low temperatures. The patterns of δ13C of total acetate and acetate-methyl were also different at high versus low temperatures, indicating the involvement of different pathways of production and consumption of acetate at the two temperature regimes. Isotope fractionation during consumption of the methyl group of acetate was more pronounced at low (α = 1.010-1.025) than at high (α = 1.0-1.01) temperatures indicating that acetoclastic methanogenesis exhibits a stronger isotope effect than syntrophic acetate oxidation. Small amounts of propionate also transiently accumulated and were analyzed for δ13C. The δ13C values slightly increased (by about 10‰) during production and consumption of propionate, but were not affected by incubation temperature. Collectively, our results showed distinct isotope discrimination for different paths of acetate (and propionate) production and consumption, albeit differences were only small, and discrimination between methanogenic and syntrophic acetate consumption in nature may be difficult to detect. 相似文献

In many anoxic environments propionate is, after acetate, the second most important fermentation product, being degraded further to finally result in CH4 production. In principle, isotope discrimination can be used to assess the path of organic matter degradation to acetate, CO2 and CH4. However, nothing is known about the isotope fractionation in primary and secondary fermentation steps involving propionate, although it is an important precursor of acetate. We therefore studied the degradation of propionate with a syntrophic coculture of Syntrophobacter fumaroxidans and Methanobacterium formicicum. The isotope enrichment factor for propionate degradation to acetate, CO2 and CH4 was almost negligible (εprop 0.9‰). The fermentative production of propionate was studied in cultures with Opitutus terrae growing on pectin, xylan and starch. These polysaccharides were fermented to acetate, succinate, propionate, H2 and CO2. While the δ13C value of the initially produced propionate was similar to that of the organic substrates (ca. −28 to −25‰), the δ13C value of the other fermentation products was higher. The δ13C values of all products generally decreased during the course of fermentation. Finally, a small depletion in 13C (ca. 6‰) with respect to the organic substrate was observed for propionate, while the other fermentation products where slightly enriched. Overall, stable carbon isotope discrimination was small during both fermentative production and consumption of propionate in the anaerobic microbial cultures, so that propionate turnover probably only marginally affects isotope fractionation during anaerobic degradation of organic matter. 相似文献

Carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios (13C and 15N) and trophic level (TL) estimates based on stomach content analysis and published data were used to assess the contribution of autotrophic sources to 55 consumers in an intertidal mangrove creek of the Curuçá estuary, northern Brazil. Primary producers showed δ13C signatures ranging between −29.2 and −19.5‰ and δ15N from 3.0 to 6.3‰. The wide range of the isotopic composition of carbon of consumers (−28.6 to −17.1‰) indicated that different autotrophic sources are important in the intertidal mangrove food webs. Food web segregation structures the ecosystem into three relatively distinct food webs: (i) mangrove food web, where vascular plants contribute directly or indirectly via POM to the most 13C-depleted consumers (e.g. Ucides cordatus and zooplanktivorous food chains); (ii) algal food web, where benthic algae are eaten directly by consumers (e.g. Uca maracoani, mullets, polychaetes, several fishes); (iii) mixed food web where the consumers use the carbon from different primary sources (mainly benthivorous fishes). An IsoError mixing model was used to determine the contributions of primary sources to consumers, based on δ13C values. Model outputs were very sensitive to the magnitude of trophic isotope fractionation and to the variability in 13C data. Nevertheless, the simplification of the system by a priori aggregation of primary producers allowed interpretable results for several taxa, revealing the segregation into different food webs. 相似文献

Many liquid storage tanks consist of a steel cylindrical shell, which is welded to a base plate, but not fixed to the foundation. When such an unanchored tank is subjected to lateral loads due to earthquake induced hydrodynamic pressures in the liquid, the tank wall tends to uplift locally, pulling the base plate up with it. The contact problem of the partially uplifted base plate and its interaction with the the cylindrical shell is solved in this paper using the finite difference energy method, and a Fourier decomposition of the displacements in the circumferential direction. Non-linearities due to contact, finite displacements and yield of the steel are included in the analysis. However, the equations for the shell are linearized. This uncouples the equations for the Fourier displacement coefficients in the cylindrical shell, and enables the degrees of freedom for the shell to be eliminated by static condensation at very little computational cost. Comparing the analytical results to (for the most part existing) experimental results, produces good agreement in some cases and not so good in others. A number of effects that could give rise to such differences are discussed. In most cases they represent experimental conditions that are not known or modelled in the analysis. The analysis results are also compared to those from a simplified analysis in which the hold-down action of the base plate is modelled by means of nonlinear Winkler springs. 相似文献

Polarized Fe K-edge EXAFS spectra of biotite and chlorite monocrystals have been recorded using the Synchrotron radiation at LURE, Orsay. The anisotropic contribution of the nearest cation shell is clearly brought to evidence. In the limit case in which the electric field vector would be disposed normal to the layer plane, the contribution of cations belonging to octahedral sheets would not be sampled. At this orientation, the Fe-(Si, Al) contribution is selected and it is then possible by extrapolation of spectra taken at lower angles to extract phase and amplitude functions associated with this atomic pair. Two applications of this experiment are presented, (i) In chlorite, the amplitude of the Fe-(Si, Al) contribution is directly proportional to the distribution of Fe atoms between the TOT layer and the interlayer. It is found that about 25 percent of the iron is located in the interlayer. (ii) In the biotite structure, the contribution of the (Si, Al) shell is almost constant for a wide range of Fe-containing phyllosilicates and can be subtracted from their EXAFS spectrum. Such an operation will permit a more accurate analysis of the reality of solid solutions. 相似文献
