Apatite fission-track analyses were carried out on outcrop and core samples from the Rhenish massif and the Carboniferous Ruhr Basin/Germany in order to study the late- and post-Variscan thermal and exhumation history. Apatite fission-track ages range from 291±15 Ma (lower Permian) to 136±7 Ma (lower Cretaceous) and mean track lengths vary between 11.6 m and 13.9 m, mostly displaying unimodal distributions with narrow standard deviations. All apatite fission-track ages are younger than the corresponding sample stratigraphic age, indicating substantial post-depositional annealing of the apatite fission-tracks. This agrees with results from maturity modelling, which indicates 3500–7000 m eroded Devonian and Carboniferous sedimentary cover. Numerical modelling of apatite fission-track data predicts onset of exhumation and cooling not earlier than 320 Ma in the Rhenish massif and 300 Ma in the Ruhr Basin, generally followed by late Carboniferous–Triassic cooling to below 50–60°C. Rapid late Variscan cooling was followed by moderate Mesozoic cooling rates of 0.1–0.2°C/Ma, converting into denudation rates of <1 mm/a (assuming a stable geothermal gradient of 30°C/km). Modelling results also give evidence for some late Triassic and early Jurassic heating and/or burial, which is supported by sedimentary rocks of the same age preserved at the rim of the lower Rhine Basin and in the subsurface of the Central and Northern Ruhr Basin. Cenozoic exhumation and cooling of the Rhenish massif is interpreted as an isostatic response to former erosion and major base-level fall caused by the subsidence in the lower Rhine Basin.  相似文献

An area-differentiated model approach (MEPhos) for the quantification of mean annual P-inputs from point and diffuse sources is presented. The following pathways are considered: artificial drainage, wash-off, groundwater outflow, soil erosion, rainwater sewers, combined sewer overflows, municipal waste water treatment plants and industrial effluents. Two retention functions for rivers and reservoirs are included in order to model P-sinks within a river basin. This allows a complete record of P-loads in heterogeneous meso- and macroscale river basins and enables validation of modeling results with water quality data on a load basis. The model is applied to the River Ruhr basin (4,485 km2) in Germany, which includes contrasting natural conditions, land use patterns as well as population and industry densities. Based on validated modelling results sub-areas of high P-loads are localized and management options for the reduction of P-inputs to surface waters are proposed taking into account the site conditions of the sub-areas relevant for high P-inputs into surface waters.  相似文献

Abstract

In the high-amplitude wave regime, at each point in the axial plane, the temperature has a maximum, a minimum, and a time (or longitudinally) averaged value due to the propagation of the regular waves. The axial-plane profile of each of these three temperature fields was measured for 53 different combinations of ω, Δr w T and n. A few sample profiles are displayed.

Correlations of several internal thermal parameters (especially Ro g,t ) with the externally imposed parameters, are given along with the spatial variation of the thermal fields. Ro g,t is always less than the value which would occur if the symmetrical regime existed, while the variation of Sz g,t with the imposed parameters is about the same as for the symmetrical regime. The parametric variation of the wave amplitude is the only quantity dependent on n. Based on the parametric variation of the fields, the wave regime diagram can be subdivided into several different regions : a quasi-conductive, a conductive-convective zone, and a region at large rotation rates and temperature differences characterized by Ro g,t = Ro g,w 2, Sz o,l = Ro g,w , and ΔT′ = (z′)0.6.

The Ro g, l fields are compared to existing theory and some of the experimental stability diagrams of Fultz et al. (1964) are reconstructed using the internal instead of the externally imposed Rossby number. The transition from three to four waves via a “minor wave” is illustrated.  相似文献

Here we report a radio burst in absorption at 9?–?30 MHz observed with the UTR-2 telescope. This event occurred on 19 August 2003 about 11:16?–?11:26 UT, against solar type IV/II emission background. It is the first event where absorption was observed below 30 MHz. The absorption region, comparable with the solar radius size, traveled a long distance into the upper corona from the Sun. We show that the burst minimum corresponds to the almost full absorption of the solar radio emission up to a background level of the quiescent Sun. This supports the interpretation of the phenomenon as an absorption. The result is examined independently with the Nançay Decameter Array measurements and the Wind WAVES instrument records.  相似文献

The 2005 hurricane season in the Gulf of Mexico was the worst in the history of offshore production, with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroying 110 oil and gas structures and eight mobile offshore drilling units. Infrastructure destroyed by accident or natural catastrophe are decommissioned according to the same federal regulations that guide normal decommissioning operations, but depending on the nature of the destruction and the market conditions in the months following the event, special conditions and delays may occur. Historically, offshore infrastructure destroyed by hurricanes or other unusual circumstances have been considered for inclusion in the Louisiana Artificial Reef Program (LARP) under the Special Artificial Reef Site (SARS) category. The purpose of this paper is to review the impact of the 2005 hurricane season on the LARP and the current status of the SARS program. We examine the criteria employed in project evaluation and approval as well as aggregate program statistics. The characteristics and risks associated with decommissioning destroyed infrastructure are also described. At the end of 2006, 10 projects representing 35 platforms destroyed in the 2005 hurricane season have been approved as SARS in the Gulf of Mexico, effectively doubling the number of sites and structures classified as SARS.  相似文献

We studied the degradation of lignin in leaf and needle litter of ash, beech, maple, pine and spruce using 13C-labelled tetramethylammonium hydroxide (13C TMAH) thermochemolysis. Samples were allowed to decompose for 27 months in litter bags at a German spruce forest site, resulting in a range of mass loss from 26% (beech) to 58% (ash). In contrast to conventional unlabelled TMAH thermochemolysis, 13C-labelling allows thermochemolysis products from lignin, demethylated lignin and other polyphenolic litter compounds (e.g. tannins) to be distinguished. Proxies for lignin degradation (phenol yield; acid/aldehyde ratio of products) changed considerably upon correction for the contribution of non-lignin sources to the thermochemolysis products. Using the corrected values, we found increasing acid/aldehyde values as well as decreasing or constant yield of lignin derived phenols normalised to litter carbon, suggesting pronounced lignin degradation by wood-rotting fungi. No indication for build up of demethylated lignin through the action of brown rot fungi on ring methoxyls was found. The results were compared with those of other analytical techniques applied in previous studies. Like 13C-TMAH thermochemolysis, CuO oxidation showed increasing lignin oxidation (acid/aldehyde ratio) and no/little enrichment of lignin derived phenols in the litter. Molecular lignin degradation patterns did not match those from analysis of total acid unhydrolysable residues (AURs). In particular, the long assumed selective preservation of lignin during the first months of litter decomposition, based on AUR analysis, was not supported by results from the CuO and 13C TMAH methods.  相似文献

Wind gaps in actively growing mountain ranges are unique geomorphological features testifying to the competition between tectonics and fluvial incision. Although it is clear that these landforms reflect the defeat of rivers during sustained rock uplift, the role of climate changes in their formation has never been explored. Here, we use a coupled tectonics–landscape evolution model to show that temporal changes in precipitation rate exert an important control on wind gap formation. In models with a constant precipitation rate, rivers flowing across a growing range are either defeated at an early stage or they abandon their valleys very late, if at all. If precipitation varies, wind gaps form mostly c. 100–200 ka after a transition to drier conditions because of sediment aggradation upstream of the range. Our results suggest that the Pliocene–Quaternary aridification of Central Asia contributed to wind gap formation in active mountain ranges in the foreland of northeastern Tibet.  相似文献
