This article describes a simplified method to calculate a building-specific subslab to indoor air attenuation factor using data collected during pressure-field extension testing similar to industry standards for radon mitigation. It also describes a simplified method to calculate the radius of influence for a conventional suction point using a mass flux-balance model. The analysis is based on three simple measurements: (1) the extraction flow rate, (2) cross-slab applied vacuum at a radial distance of 3 feet, and (3) cross-slab applied vacuum at a radial distance of 10 feet. The intent is to provide a practitioner with a rapid and useful screening-level assessment of whether the benefits of reduced mitigation system costs warrant an investment in a more detailed mathematical analysis of the flow and vacuum data. Recent flood events in Canada have led to speculation that changes in flood behaviour are occurring; these changes have often been attributed to climate change. This paper examines flood data for a collection of 132 gauging stations in Canada. All of these watersheds are part of the Canadian Reference Hydrometric Basin Network (RHBN), a group of gauging stations specifically assembled to assist in the identification of the impacts of climate change. The RHBN stations are considered to have good quality data and were screened to avoid the influences of regulation, diversions, or land use change. Daily flow data for each watershed are used to derive a peaks over threshold (POT) dataset. Several measures of flood behaviour are examined based on the POT data, which afford a more in‐depth analysis of flood behaviour than can be obtained using annual maxima data. Analysis is conducted for four time periods ranging from 50 to 80 years in duration; the latter period results in a much smaller number of watersheds that have data for the period. The changes in flood responses of the watersheds are summarized by grouping the watersheds by size (small, medium, and large) and also by hydrologic regime (nival, mixed, and pluvial). The results provide important insights into the nature of the changes that are occurring in flood regimes of Canadian rivers, which include more flood exceedances, reduced maximum flood exceedance magnitudes for snowmelt events, and earlier flood events. We have used Kieffer's vibrational model to calculate heat capacities and entropies for Al2O3 corundum and MgSiO3 ilmenite, using available vibrational and elastic data for these phases. The calculated heat capacity for corundum is within 1–2 percent of the experimental values between 100 K and 1,800 K, while that for MgSiO3 ilmenite is within 1–2 percent of the experimental data between 350 K and 500 K. We have calculated the heat capacity for MgSiO3 ilmenite from 50 K to 1,800 K, which extends the range of available heat capacity data for this phase. The results of this calculation suggest that there may be differences in the vibrational properties of corundum and MgSiO3 ilmenite. Finally, we have used the results of our calculation to obtain a transition entropy of near -18.8 J/mol.K for the MgSiO3 pyroxene-ilmenite reaction. 相似文献

Using both historic records and CORINE land cover maps, we assessed the impact of land cover change on the stock of soil organic carbon (SOC) in the Republic of Ireland from 1851 to 2000. We identified ten principal land cover classes: arable land, forest, grassland, heterogeneous agricultural areas/other, nonvegetated semi-natural areas, peatland, suburban, urban, water bodies, and wetland. For each land cover class, the SOC stock was estimated as the product of SOC density and land cover area. These were summed to calculate a national SOC budget for the Republic of Ireland. The Republic of Ireland’s 6.94 million hectares of land have undergone considerable change over the past 150 years. The most striking feature is the decrease in arable land from 1.44 million ha in 1851 to 0.55 million ha in 2000. Over the same time period, forested land increased by 0.53 million ha. As of 2000, agricultural lands including arable land (7.85%), grassland (54.33%), and the heterogeneous agricultural areas/other class (7.91%) account for 70.09% of Irish land cover. We estimate that the SOC stock in the Republic of Ireland, to 1 m depth, has increased from 1,391 Tg in 1851 to 1,469 Tg in 2000 despite soil loss due to urbanization. This increase is largely due to the increase of forested land with its higher SOC stocks when compared to agricultural lands. Peatlands contain a disproportionate quantity of the SOC stock. Summary A method of computation of the vertical gradients of gravity, at different elevations, from the residual gravity profile due to a localised two dimensional causative body is presented. The vertical gradient at an elevation above a station has been expressed as a weighted summation of the gravity values at equally spaced stations along a profile. These weights (coefficients) depend only upon the positions of the individual stations, relative to the station of computation, and upon the ratio of the elevation at which the vertical gradient value is sought to the separation of the stations. Functional forms of these coefficients have been derived analytically and they have been computed for different relative positions of the individual stations and for different values for the ratio of elevation to separation.An analytical expression has been derived for the remainder term which is necessary when the above summation is performed over a finite length of the profile only. As this expression involves the parameters, (i) total mass per unit length and (ii) the positions of the centre of gravity of the causative body, a method has been developed separately for their accurate determination from the anomaly profile of finite length.The efficacy of the method has been assessed by applying it to an arbitrary theoretical model. 相似文献
