The central stars of two of the new planetary nebulae found during scans of the AAO/UKST H α Survey of the Milky Way have been found to exhibit Wolf–Rayet (WR) emission features. One (PMR 1) is an early-type star of class either [WO4] or [WC4]. The other (PMR 2) is a late [WC] star which, depending on the classification scheme used, is either intermediate in class between [WC9] and [WC10] or the sole member of the [WC10] class. Both stars exhibit unusual spectral features which may be attributed to enhanced nitrogen in their atmospheres and could be indicative of unusual stellar evolution. 相似文献

Dewatering Behaviour of Sludge in the Presence of Polyelectrolytes Interactions of sludge particles with well defined synthetic polyelectrolytes of different charge, molecular mass, and molecular geometry were investigated by means of zeta- and streaming potential measurements and polyelectrolyte titrations. Different mechanisms of flocculation were discussed with regard to the dewatering behaviour of the sludge. In dependence on the flocculation procedure (cationic monoflocculation, anionic-cationic, and cationicanionic dual flocculation) as well as on the chain length and branching of the polyelectrolytes used, different mechanisms of sludge dewatering were discussed: Polyanions are not adsorbed on the sludge particles and lead to a decline of the dewatering results. Linear short chain polycations result in a flocculation after surface charge neutralization of the particles according to a patch mechanism. Long chain linear polycations cause a bridging of the particles leading to a flocculation without charge neutralization of the aggregates formed. With branched polycations, a flocculation according to a patch mechanism is observed. These polycations form sludge particle aggregates which are surface charge neutralized at the flocculation point. In anionic-cationic dual flocculations using long chain polycations, an inclusion flocculation due to polyanion-polycation complex formation is the predominating mechanism. The cationic-anionic dual flocculation with complete covering of the particles with polycations in the first step can be discussed by a patch mechanism quite similar to an anionic monoflocculation of cationic particles. By knowing the mechanism of interaction for a given flocculation agent, an optimal sludge dewatering procedure can be predicted. 相似文献

We report our initial discovery of 73 new planetary nebulae (PNe) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) following confirmatory 2dF spectroscopy on the Anglo-Australian Telescope. Preliminary candidate sources come from a 10 per cent sub-area of our new deep, high-resolution Hα map of the central 25 deg2 of the LMC obtained with the UK Schmidt Telescope. The depth of the high-resolution map was extended to R equiv ∼ 22 for Hα (4.5 × 10−17 erg cm−2 s−1 Å−1 ) by a process of multi-exposure median co-addition of a dozen 2-h Hα exposures. The resulting map is at least 1-mag deeper than the best wide-field narrow-band LMC images currently available. This depth, combined with our selection technique, has also led to the discovery of extended asymptotic giant branch (AGB) haloes around many new and previously known LMC PNe for the first time. Once complete, our new survey is expected to triple the LMC PN population and have significant implications for the LMC PN luminosity function, kinematics, abundance gradients, chemical evolution and, via study of the AGB haloes, the initial to final mass relation for low- to intermediate-mass stars. 相似文献

The Global Geodetic Observing System requirement for the long-term stability of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame is 0.1 mm/year, motivated by rigorous sea level studies. Furthermore, high-quality station velocities are of great importance for the prediction of future station coordinates, which are fundamental for several geodetic applications. In this study, we investigate the performance of predictions from very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) terrestrial reference frames (TRFs) based on Kalman filtering. The predictions are computed by extrapolating the deterministic part of the coordinate model. As observational data, we used over 4000 VLBI sessions between 1980 and the middle of 2016. In order to study the predictions, we computed VLBI TRF solutions only from the data until the end of 2013. The period of 2014 until 2016.5 was used to validate the predictions of the TRF solutions against the measured VLBI station coordinates. To assess the quality, we computed average WRMS values from the coordinate differences as well as from estimated Helmert transformation parameters, in particular, the scale. We found that the results significantly depend on the level of process noise used in the filter. While larger values of process noise allow the TRF station coordinates to more closely follow the input data (decrease in WRMS of about 45%), the TRF predictions exhibit larger deviations from the VLBI station coordinates after 2014 (WRMS increase of about 15%). On the other hand, lower levels of process noise improve the predictions, making them more similar to those of solutions without process noise. Furthermore, our investigations show that additionally estimating annual signals in the coordinates does not significantly impact the results. Finally, we computed TRF solutions mimicking a potential real-time TRF and found significant improvements over the other investigated solutions, all of which rely on extrapolating the coordinate model for their predictions, with WRMS reductions of almost 50%. 相似文献
