During rheomorphism subsequent to fallout deposition, a portion of the densely welded fallout of the La Grieta Member flowed back into the vent from where it was erupted, while the rest of it flowed down the outer slopes of the Las Cañadas caldera in Tenerife. The welded fallout and conduit-vent structure are physically connected and constitute a rare example of this type of deposits rooted to its feeder conduit and exposed in the caldera wall. The lower part of the vent-filling rheomorphic rocks shows gas bubbles and cavities that increase in size (up to 4 m) down vent. Bubbles are deformed against other bubbles, against the steep vent walls, flattened parallel to the flow foliation planes, and elongated parallel to the flow lineation and flow fold axes. The preservation of such giant bubbles, rather than their formation, seems to be a pretty unique feature of the phonolitic products investigated here and it is likely the result of the combination of factors that acted to preserve, in the surrounding of the glass transition interval, the sealing and the late stage cooling of a pressurized system. In addition, strain drop at the base of the vent-filling rheomorphic flow caused by flow stopping against vertical vent walls may have promoted rapid gas exsolution and the formation of large bubbles. 相似文献

The Son Poc rockfall took place on the 6th of March 2013 in the municipality of Bunyola, on the southern side of the Tramuntana Range (Mallorca) and after a rainy and cold period on the region. A volume of rock of 4.000 m3 was detached from the cliff crowning the peak falling down by toppling. The impact of the boulder caused its fragmentation, and numerous boulders bounced and rolled downslope with volumes from 1 to 35 m3, following two trajectories: southwest (SW) and southeast (SE). The SE trajectory, with a larger runout (376 m), reached an urban area, where some of the boulders hit the roofs and walls of nearby houses, stopping others in their gardening areas. Fortunately, no fatalities occurred despite of the presence of some people at that moment, but the event caused great concern in a region which lives from and for tourism. The Son Poc rockfall has been simulated using RocPro3D software which uses GIS technology to produce 3D rockfall trajectories lines, estimated velocity and energy of falling blocks, as well as bounce heights, impacts, and stopping points. Many morphological elements in Cuba's landscape (e.g. marine terraces, tidal notches) demonstrate that coastal uplift has taken place, but the rate at which this occurs is not known. Carbonate phreatic overgrowths on speleothems have been found in a cave in Central North Cuba, ~1 km from the present coastline at 16 m asl. They form exceptional and unique mushroom‐shaped speleothems and balconies decorating the walls of the rooms. These phreatic overgrowths on speleothems (POS) formed at the oscillating air–water interface in sea‐level controlled anchialine lakes. U/Th dating of these overgrowths suggests ages that are compatible with the Marine Isotope Stage 5e (i.e. 130–115 ka). These POS have fixed this sea‐level highstand and demonstrate that this part of Cuba has been subjected to a much lower uplift rate than previously reported, that is, less than 0.1 mm/year since the last interglacial. 相似文献

In the internal zone of the European Alps, late Carboniferous to Permian sediments have been detached from their basement (e.g. the Zone Houillère in the Briançonnais Zone). The Pinerolo Unit (Dora‐Maira Massif) is the deepest unit exposed in the stack of the Western Alps and is considered to be Carboniferous in age based on lithological considerations. Detrital zircon grains from the Pinerolo Unit and the Zone Houillère display similar age patterns, with the youngest and largest population being Carboniferous (340–330 Ma). The distribution of Carboniferous magmatism in the Alps and surrounding areas suggests that the detritus was transported from Maures‐Corsica and possibly from the Helvetic Zone into the Zone Houillère and the Pinerolo basin. Our results highlight the potential of detrital zircon geochronology for deciphering the sources of detrital material in meta‐sediments, even if they have been affected by metamorphic overprints. 相似文献

High-performance computing provides unprecedented capabilities to produce higher resolution 4-D models in a fraction of time.
Thus, the need exists for a new generation of visualization systems able to maintain parity with the enormous volume of data
generated. In attempting to write this much data to disk, each computational step introduces a significant performance bottleneck,
yet most existing visualization software packages inherently rely on reading data in from a dump file. Available packages
make this assumption of postprocessing at quite a fundamental level and are not very well suited for plotting very large numbers
of specialized particles. This necessitates the creation of a new visualization system that meets the needs of large-scale
geodynamic modeling. We have developed such a system, gLucifer, using a software framework approach that allows efficient
reuse of our efforts in other areas of research. gLucifer is capable of producing movies of a 4-D data set “on the fly” (simultaneously
with running the parallel scientific application) without creating a performance bottleneck. By eliminating most of the human
efforts involved in visualizing results through postprocessing, gLucifer reconnects the scientist to the numerical experiment
as it unfolds. Data sets that were previously very difficult to even manage may be efficiently explored and interrogated without
writing to disk, and because this approach is based entirely on memory distributed across as many processors as are being
utilized by the scientific application, the visualization solution is scalable into terabytes of data being rendered in real

The paper illustrates a Linked Thesaurus Framework for the Environment, named LusTRE, to facilitate data sharing across different environmental disciplines. It provides a knowledge infrastructure of multilingual thesauri and code lists, interlinking them so that they can be used as one integrated linked data source. This multilingual thesaurus is published according to the Linked Data Best Practices and supports metadata compilation and data discovery for describing and finding Environmental geodata. A human readable web interface is provided for the exploitation of LusTRE as well as a set of web services for programmatic access to the knowledge infrastructure. LusTRE has been exploited within the European directive INSPIRE and SEIS piloting testbeds implemented within the EU project eENVplus in order to support cross-border and cross-domain data sharing. It is aimed at supporting multilingual data search and query refinement. Ischia is an active volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples whose history has been dominated by a caldera-forming eruption (ca.
55 ka) and resurgence phenomena that have affected the caldera floor and generated a net uplift of about 900 m since 33 ka.
The results of new geomorphological, stratigraphical and textural investigations of the products of gravitational movements
triggered by volcano-tectonic events have been combined with the information arising from a reinterpretation of historical
chronicles on natural phenomena such as earthquakes, ground deformation, gravitational movements and volcanic eruptions. The
combined interpretation of all these data shows that gravitational movements, coeval to volcanic activity and uplift events
related to the long-lasting resurgence, have affected the highly fractured marginal portions of the most uplifted Mt. Epomeo
blocks. Such movements, mostly occurring since 3 ka, include debris avalanches; large debris flows (lahars); smaller mass
movements (rock falls, slumps, debris and rock slides, and small debris flows); and deep-seated gravitational slope deformation.
The occurrence of submarine deposits linked with subaerial deposits of the most voluminous mass movements clearly shows that
the debris avalanches impacted on the sea. The obtained results corroborate the hypothesis that the behaviour of the Ischia
volcano is based on an intimate interplay among magmatism, resurgence dynamics, fault generation, seismicity, slope oversteepening
and instability, and eruptions. They also highlight that volcano-tectonically triggered mass movements are a potentially hazardous
phenomena that have to be taken into account in any attempt to assess volcanic and related hazards at Ischia. Furthermore,
the largest mass movements could also flow into the sea, generating tsunami waves that could impact on the island’s coast
as well as on the neighbouring and densely inhabited coast of the Neapolitan area. 相似文献
