Summary Neumann [1] has shown that the mean lapse rate through the whole troposphere decreases from the Equator to the North Pole. The present note shows also that the mean tropospheric lapse rate above the surface layers has little latitudinal variation either in January or July and has a mean value of 6.4°C/km.
Zusammenfassung Neumann [1] hat gezeigt, daß der mittlere vertikale Gradient der Temperatur durch die ganze Troposphäre vom Äquator bis zum Nordpol abnimmt. In unserer Untersuchung wird gezeigt, daß in der Troposphäre der mittlere vertikale Temperaturgradient oberhalb der bodennahen Schichten weder im Januar noch im Juli große Veränderungen in den verschiedenen Breitengraden aufweist und einen mittleren Wert von 6.4°C/km hat.

Résumé Neumann [1] a montré que les valeurs du gradient vertical moyen de température diminuent dans tous les niveaux de la troposphère de l'équateur au pôle Nord. Dans la présente étude on montre que, dans la troposphère, au-dessus des couches atmosphériques proches de la surface du sol, le gradient vertical moyen de température ne présente pas de différences importantes entre le diverses latitudess, ni en janvier, ni en juillet, et que sa valeur moyenne est de 6.4°C/km.

The 1960 Kapoho lavas of Kilauea’s east rift zone contain 1–10 cm xenoliths of olivine gabbro, olivine gabbro-norite, and gabbro norite. Textures are poikilitic (ol+sp+cpx in pl) and intergranular (cpx+pl±ol±opx). Poikilitic xenoliths, which we interpret as cumulates, have the most primitive mineral compositions, Fo82.5, cpx Mg# 86.5, and An80.5. Many granular xenoliths (ol and noritic gabbro) contain abundant vesicular glass that gives them intersertal, hyaloophitic, and overall ‘open’ textures to suggest that they represent ‘mush’ and ‘crust’ of a magma crystallization environment. Their phase compositions are more evolved (Fo80–70, cpx Mg# 82–75, and An73–63) than those of the poikilitic xenoliths. Associated glass is basaltic, but evolved (MgO 5 wt%; TiO2 3.7–5.8 wt%). The gabbroic xenolith mineral compositions fit existing fractional crystallization models that relate the origins of various Kilauea lavas to one another. FeO/MgO crystal–liquid partitioning is consistent with the poikilitic ol-gabbro assemblage forming as a crystallization product from Kilauea summit magma with ∼8 wt% MgO that was parental to evolved lavas on the east rift zone. For example, least squares calculations link summit magmas to early 1955 rift-zone lavas (∼5 wt% MgO) through ∼28–34% crystallization of the ol+sp+cpx+pl that comprise the poikilitic ol-gabbros. The other ol-gabbro assemblages and the olivine gabbro-norite assemblages crystallized from evolved liquids, such as represented by the early 1955 and late 1955 lavas (∼6.5 wt% MgO) of the east rift zone. The eruption of 1960 Kapoho magmas, then, scoured the rift-zone reservoir system to entrain portions of cumulate and solidification zones that had coated reservoir margins during crystallization of prior east rift-zone magmas. Estimating fractal dimension of profiles: A comparison of methods   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper examines the characteristics of four different methods of estimating the fractal dimension of profiles. The semi-variogram, roughness-length, and two spectral methods are compared using synthetic 1024-point profiles generated by three methods, and using two profiles derived from a gridded DEM and two profiles from a laser-scanned soil surface. The analysis concentrates on the Hurst exponent H,which is linearly related to fractal dimension D,and considers both the accuracy and the variability of the estimates of H.The estimation methods are found to be quite consistent for Hnear 0.5, but the semivariogram method appears to be biased for Happroaching 0 and 1, and the roughness-length method for Happroaching 0. The roughness-length or the maximum entropy spectral methods are recommended as the most suitable methods for estimating the fractal dimension of topographic profiles. The fractal model fitted the soil surface data at fine scales but not at broad scales, and did not appear to fit the DEM profiles well at any scale.  相似文献

This paper employs a core-periphery perspective to review regional planning theory and examine the spatial dynamics in Appalachian development which span 25 years of Appalachian Regional Commission programs. Improved conditions, defined by increasing incomes in counties, are examined. The region is conceptualized as comprising two exterior peripheries and an interior periphery. This perspective is valuable in illustrating the region's development and for further planning efforts in Appalachia.  相似文献

The Al Amar Fault lies in a belt of Proterozoic, metamorphosed volcanic and sedimentary rocks, bounded by granitic batholiths. A string of metalliferous and industrial mineral deposits form a “mineral belt” which coincides with the volcanosedimentary belt. Orebodies of basic and ultra-basic association are directly related to the fault through its influence on intrusive activity. Cu-Zn-Au bearing veins of meta-volcanic affiliation are spatially related to the fault. A group of Pb-Ag bearing veins is associated with the granitic batholith which forms the western boundary of the volcano-sedimentary belt. Associations between ore minerals and particular igneous rocks indicate that granitic, basic and metamorphosed volcanic rocks were sources of Pb-Ag-W-Mo, Fe-Cr-Cu-Ni and Fe-Cu-Zn-Au-Ba, respectively. Hydrothermal activity in the fault zone promoted ore formation, and faulting provided sites for deposition. Al Amar Fault is a “copper-lead line” dividing a Pb-Ag subprovince (of sialic derivation?) from a Cu-Zn-Au sub-province (of plate margin/island arc derivation?). The fault is a useful empirical guide in exploration for ores of basic or ultra-basic plutonic and meta-volcanic affiliation and can be identified and traced, as a lineament, using ERTS satellite images and aeromagnetic maps.  相似文献

Vertical eddy diffusivities (Kv's) have been estimated at fourteen widely separated locations from fourteen222Rn profiles and two228Ra profiles measured near the ocean floor as part of the Atlantic and Pacific GEOSECS programs. They show an inverse proportionality to the local buoyancy gradient [(g/?)(??pot/?z)] calculated from hydrographic measurements. The negative of the constant of proportionality is the buoyancy flux [?Kv(g/?)(??pot/?z)] which has a mean of ?4 × 10?6 cm2/sec3. Our results suggest that the buoyancy flux varies very little near the ocean floor. Kv's for the interior of the deep Pacific calculated from the relationship Kv = (4 × 10?6cm2/sec3)/[(g/?)(??pot/?z)] agree well with published estimates. Kv's calculated for the pycnocline are one to two orders of magnitude smaller than upper limits estimated from tritium and7Be distributions.Heat fluxes calculated with the model Kv's obtained from the222Rn profiles average 31 μcal cm?2 sec?1 in the Atlantic Ocean and 8 μcal cm?2 sec?1 in the Pacific Ocean.  相似文献

Amino acids were found in acid hydrolyzed, hot water extracts of the Nogoya (C2) and Mokoia (C3V) chondrites. About 40 n moles/g of amino acids were found in the Nogoya extract while Mokoia contained less than 1 n mole/g. The amino acid composition of Nogoya differs from that of other C2 chondrites studied earlier. The results from Mokoia are similar to previous data obtained from the C3V chondrite Allende.  相似文献
