In this research a site classification is proposed for the Umbria-Marche area (central Italy), based on geotechnical and geomorphological criteria. Two empirical techniques to evaluate site effects are used, namely the generalised spectral inversion, and the horizontal to vertical spectral ratio. The soil transfer functions obtained by the two techniques are compared in order to capture the features common to each class and verify the accuracy of the classification.We used strong ground motions recorded during the Umbria-Marche seismic sequence (September 1997-May 1998) and we selected 25 sites that were classified into four groups. The results of the empirical techniques have also been tested using theoretical 1-D or 2-D methods that are commonly used to simulate linear soil behaviour. The results, expressed in terms of amplitude transfer functions, are shown according to each soil class and confirm the consistency of the site characterisation. The empirical techniques are efficient in detecting the fundamental frequency of vibration but seldom the higher harmonics. Conversely, the peak amplitude of the transfer functions is not consistently determined, especially for sites located in deep sedimentary basins, where 2-D effects occur and simplified methods, such as the horizontal to vertical spectral ratios (HVSR) or 1-D theoretical models frequently fail. Geostatistical estimations of the hydraulic conductivity field (K) in the Carrizo aquifer, Texas, are performed over three regional domains of increasing extent: 1) the domain corresponding
to a three-dimensional groundwater flow model previously built (model domain); 2) the area corresponding to the 10 counties
encompassing the model domain (County domain), and; 3) the full extension of the Carrizo aquifer within Texas (Texas domain).
Two different approaches are used: 1) an indirect approach where transmissivity (T) is estimated first and K is retrieved through division of the T estimate by the screen length of the wells, and; 2) a direct approach where K data are kriged directly. Due to preferential well screen emplacement, and scarcity of sampling in the deeper portions of
the formation (> 1 km), the available data set is biased toward high values of hydraulic conductivities. Kriging combined
with linear regression, simple kriging with varying local means, kriging with an external drift, and cokriging allow the incorporation
of specific capacity as secondary information. Prediction performances (assessed through cross-validation) differ according
to the chosen approach, the considered variable (log-transformed or back-transformed), and the scale of interest. For the
indirect approach, kriging of log T with varying local means yields the best estimates for both log-transformed and back-transformed variables in the model domain.
For larger regional scales (County and Texas domains), cokriging performs generally better than other kriging procedures when
estimating both (log T)∗ and T∗. Among procedures using the direct approach, the best prediction performances are obtained using kriging of log K with an external drift. Overall, geostatistical estimation of the hydraulic conductivity field at regional scales is rendered
difficult by both preferential well location and preferential emplacement of well screens in the most productive portions

Solar observations from millimeter to ultraviolet wavelengths show that there is a temperature minimum between photosphere and chromosphere. Analyses based on semi-empirical models locate this point at about 500 km above the photosphere. The consistency of these models has been tested by means of millimeter to infrared observations. We show that variations of the theoretical radial temperature profile near the temperature minimum impact the brightness temperature at centimeter, submillimeter, and infrared wavelengths, but the millimeter wavelength emission remains unchanged. We found a region between 500 and 1000 km above the photosphere that remains hidden to observations at the frequencies that we studied here. 相似文献

Large-Eddy Simulation of Heat Transfer from a Single Cube Mounted on a Very Rough Wall 总被引:3,自引:3,他引:0
The local thermal effects in the wake of a single cube with a strong heated rear face, representing a large building in an urban area, are studied using large-eddy simulations (LES) for various degrees of heating, which are characterized by the local Richardson number, $Ri$ . New wall models are implemented for momentum and temperature and comparison of the flow and thermal fields with the wind-tunnel data of Richards et al. (J Wind Eng Ind Aerodyn 94, 621–636, 2006) shows fair agreement. Buoyancy effects are quite evident at low $Ri$ and a significant increase in the turbulence levels is observed for such flows. Apart from the comparisons with experiments, further analysis included the estimation of the thermal boundary-layer thickness and heat transfer coefficient for all $Ri$ . For sufficiently strong heating, the heat transfer coefficient at the leeward face is found to be higher than the roof surface. This suggests that, beyond a certain $Ri$ value, buoyancy forces from the former surface dominate the strong streamwise convection of the latter. Quadrant analysis along the shear layer behind the cube showed that the strength of sweeps that contribute to momentum flux is considerably enhanced by heating. The contribution of different quadrants to the heat flux is found to be very different to that of the momentum flux for lower $Ri$ . 相似文献

Granitod batholiths of I-type features(mostly granodiorites and tonalites),and particularly those forming the large plutonic associations of active continental margins and intracontinental collisional belts,represent the most outstanding magmatic episodes occurred in the continental crust.The origin of magmas,however,remains controversial.The application of principles from phase equilibria is crucial to understand the problem of granitoid magma generation.An adequate comparison between rock compositions and experimental liquids has been addressed by using a projected compositional space in the plane F(Fe t Mg)eAnorthiteeOrthoclase.Many calc-alkaline granitoid trends can be considered cotectic liquids.Assimilation of country rocks and other not-cotectic processes are identifed in the projected diagram.The identifcation of cotectic patterns in batholith implies high temperatures of magma segregation and fractionation(or partial melting)from an intermediate(andesitic)source.The comparison of batholiths with lower crust granulites,in terms of major-element geochemistry,yields that both represent liquids and solid residues respectively from a common andesitic system.This is compatible with magmas being formed by melting,and eventual reaction with the peridotite mantle,of subducted mélanges that are fnally relaminated as magmas to the lower crust.Thus,the off-crust generation of granitoids batholiths constitutes a new paradigm in which important geological implications can be satisfactorily explained.Geochemical features of Cordilleran-type batholiths are totally compatible with this new conception. 相似文献

ABSTRACTEquilibrium thermodynamic modelling, quartz in garnet (QuiG) Raman geobarometry, and modelling of garnet nucleation at overstepped conditions were applied to three garnet-bearing blueschists from a 1.5 km-long transect across the eclogite-blueschist unit in Sifnos, Greece, in order to evaluate the accuracy of P?T conditions calculated via equilibrium thermodynamics. QuiG barometry uses the Raman shift of quartz inclusions in garnet to estimate the pressure of garnet nucleation and is independent of chemical equilibrium. Garnet nucleation temperatures were estimated by determining the stability field of the palaeo-assemblage inferred from garnet inclusion suites on mineral assemblage diagrams calculated in the MnNCKFMASH system and on temperatures obtained from Zr in rutile thermometry. These conditions were then compared to P?T conditions calculated at the equilibrium garnet isograd, and the method of intersecting isopleths. The P?T conditions calculated with intersecting garnet isopleths over- and underestimated the temperature of nucleation in samples SPH99-1a and SPH99-7, respectively, whereas they significantly underestimated nucleation pressure in SPH99-5. Nucleation of garnet in SPH99-1a at 12 kbar and ~484°C requires overstepping of ~6 kbar and a reaction affinity of 2.2 kJ mol?1 O. SPH99-5 requires overstepping of ~8 kbar with garnet reaction affinities of at least 2.0 kJ mol?1 O at 15 kbar and ~520°C. SPH99-7 requires overstepping of approximately 15 kbar and affinities of about 2.0–2.4 kJ mol?1 O at ~23 kbar and ~530°C. The geotherms calculated from SPH99-7 (~6.7°C km?1) and SPH99-5 (9.8°C km?1) are in accordance with previous studies. The geotherm calculated from SPH99-1a, however, is warmer (11.3°C km?1), and could reflect changes in the rate of subduction or differences in structural position within the down-going slab. The 10 kbar pressure difference between SPH99-7 and SPH99-1a can be explained by thrusting and accretion of thin slices of underplated wedge material facilitated by slab rollback and gravitational collapse. 相似文献

Glauconitic peloids from a Hauterivian condensed level in a hemipelagic unit of the Internal Prebetic (Los Villares Formation, eastern Betic Cordillera) have been studied by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and analytical electron microscopy (AEM). The sediments forming the condensed level are characterized by abundant spherical to ovoid green glauconite peloids with radial cracks. Quartz, feldspar and muscovite are also abundant, whereas calcium phosphate is rarely detected. XRD analysis of the peloids reveals glauconite and small amounts of berthierine. SEM and HRTEM data show feldspar dissolution features, a Si–Al‐rich gel‐like substance filling K‐feldspar micropores and interlayering of well‐crystallized glauconite and berthierine packets. The last stage of the glauconitization process resulted in conversion of the smectitic precursor. Sedimentary and mineralogical features indicate an autochthonous origin for the glauconite. The depositional environment was a distal, hemipelagic ramp on the Southern Iberian Continental Palaeomargin. Low sedimentation rates lead to sediment condensation in a general transgressive context. The margin was affected by extensional tectonics, creating tilted blocks, resulting in lateral facies changes. The dissolution of K‐feldspars probably occurred after their deposition in the marine environment but predating the glauconitization. An influx of meteoric water is therefore required, probably related to subsurface fluxes from adjacent emergent areas (the higher parts of tilted blocks).
