We used an in situ measurement method to investigate the phase transition of CaGeO3 polymorphs under high pressures and temperatures. A multi-anvil high-pressure apparatus combined with intense synchrotron X-ray radiation was used. The transition boundary between a garnet and a perovskite phase at T = 900–1,650 K and P = 3–8 GPa was determined as occurring at P (GPa) = 9.0−0.0023 × T (K). The transition pressure determined in our study is in general agreement with that observed in previous high-pressure experiments. The slope, dP/dT, of the transition determined in our study is consistent with that calculated from calorimetry data.  相似文献

The Akan‐Shiretoko volcanic chain, situated in the Southwestern Kurile arc, consists mainly of nine subaerial andesitic stratovolcanoes and three calderas. The chain extends in a SW–NE direction for 200 km, situated oblique to the Kurile trench at an angle of 25 degrees. Thirty‐seven new K–Ar ages, plus previous data, suggest that volcanic activity along the Akan‐Shiretoko volcanic chain began at ca 4 Ma at Akan, at the southwestern end of the chain, and systematically progressed northeastward, resulting in the southwest‐northeast‐trending volcanic chain. This spatial and temporal distribution of volcanoes can be explained by anticline development advancing northeastward from the Akan area, accompanied by magma rising through northeast‐trending fractures that developed along the anticlinal axis. The northeastward development of the anticline caused uplifting of the Akan‐Shiretoko area and changed the area from submarine to subaerial conditions. Anticline formation was likely due to deformation of the southwestern Kurile arc, with southwestward migration of the Kurile forearc sliver caused by oblique subduction of the Pacific plate. The echelon topographic arrangement of the Shiretoko, Kunashiri, Etorofu and Urup was formed at ca 1 Ma.  相似文献

Dynamic spectra of S-bursts of Jovian decametric radiations are obtained by using a high time resolution radio spectrograph which has a time resolutionof 2 msec and the bandwidth of 2 MHz.Within occurrence of 65 S-burst events observed in the period from 1983 to 1999, 26 events have been identified as the S-N burst events, which are characterized by the interaction between the S-burst emissions and the Narrow band emissions. In the dynamic spectra of the S-N burst, the trend of emissions with negative and slower frequency drift named as “Trailing Edge Emission” are often observed shortly after the appearance of the S-burst.Detailed analyses of these phenomena revealed that the Trailing Edge Emission is not a manifestation of S-burst with slower drift rate but a variation ofN-burst. The results suggested that S-burst and the associated Trailing Edge Emission are formed simultaneously started from a common region with different drift rates. It has been further suggested that the appearance of the S-burstsis not controlled by the geometrical effect between the source region and theobserver, but directly reflects the generation of the source region widelydistributed in an altitude range from a few thousands km to 30,000 km, alongthe Io flux tube. Abstract. Municipal solid waste combustion leads to concentration of various metals in the solid residue (fly ash) remaining after combustion. These metals pose serious environmental hazard and require proper handling and monitoring in order to control their harmful effects. Leachability of some metals from fly ash was examined in fly ash and Milli-Q water mixture (liquid-to-solid ratio, 100) under various temperature and pH conditions in the laboratory. The leaching experiments conducted for 24 hours showed that pH was generally more important than temperature in controlling the amount of metals leached out of the fly ash. However, at a given pH, rise in temperature led to different degree of (usually one to two fold) enhanced or reduced leaching of metals. Owing to amphoteric nature of oxides of Al, Cr, Pb and Zn, these metals often yielded typical pattern of increase and decrease in their concentrations with change in pH. The extent of leaching of Cr and Pb in our experiments suggests that decrease of pH to acidic range in the case of Pb and to neutral to acidic range for Cr over a long period of storage of fly ash at solid waste dumping site may facilitate leaching of these metals from fly ash, leading to contamination of groundwater to the level that exceeds beyond the level permitted by the environmental laws.  相似文献

The depositional environments and bivalve assemblages are determined for the Upper Cretaceous Hinoshima Formation of the Himenoura Group, Kamishima, Amakusa Islands, Kyushu, Japan. The Hinoshima Formation is characterized by a thick transgressive succession that varies from incised-valley-fill deposits to submarine slope deposits with high aggradation rates of depositional systems. The incised valley is filled with fluvial, bayhead delta, brackish-water estuary, and marine embayment deposits, and is overlain by thick slope deposits.Shallow marine bivalves are grouped into five fossil assemblages according to species composition: Glycymeris amakusensis (foreset beds of a bayhead delta), Nippononectes tamurai (foreset beds of a bayhead delta), Ezonuculana mactraeformisNucula formosa (central bay), Glycymeris amakusensisApiotrigonia minor (slope), and Inoceramus higoensisParvamussium yubarensis (slope). These bivalve assemblages all represent autochthonous and parautochthonous conditions except for a Glycymeris amakusensisApiotrigonia minor assemblage found in debris flow and slump deposits. The life habitats of these bivalves and the compositions of the assemblages are discussed in terms of the ecological history of fossil bivalves of the mid- to Late Cretaceous.  相似文献

Intense rainfall on July 12, 2012, triggered numerous shallow landslides on steep grassy hillslopes of Aso Volcano, Kyushu, Japan. The hillslopes are mantled by several meters thickness of fallout tephra accumulation from Holocene eruptions. The landslides occurred about 1 m deep in surficial tephra deposits. Stratigraphic surveys of three landslides showed that the tephra deposits beneath the ground consist of two layers, an upper blackish and a lower yellow-brown layer, and that the upper layer represents the accumulation of tephra during the last 1000 years. The surveys also demonstrated that the slip surfaces were formed near the boundary of the two layers, resulting in the sliding of the upper layer. We measured the saturated hydraulic conductivities of both the layers. The hydraulic conductivities of the lower layer are 1 to 2 orders of magnitude lower than those of the upper layer, suggesting that the lower layer acts as an aquiclude. Therefore, pore water pressure locally increases near the boundary between the two layers and failure occurs. We also examined the soil hardness, which has a high correlation with soil shear strength parameters, of the tephra layers at the three landslides. The soil hardness of the lower layer is greater than that of the upper layer in two of the landslides, suggesting that the lower layer collapses less readily than the upper layer. Comparison with previous landslides in the study area demonstrates that this type of rainfall-induced landslide event has occurred in the past and will recur in the future.  相似文献

To investigate effects of a continental slope along the western boundary on the abyssal circulation, numerical experiments using multi-level models were carried out. An ocean which extends over the northern and southern hemispheres is forced by cooling inside the ocean at the southwest corner of the basin and uniform heating through the sea surface. When the reference density for the cooling is vertically uniform, effects of the slope emerge clearly for the slope with considerably broad width. The deep western boundary current flowing over the slope feeds no bottom flows in the southern hemisphere, and carries the warmed deep water into the northern hemisphere. This leads to the increased meridional density gradient, which results in the modification of deep flow patterns. When the reference density is vertically distributed, the upper and lower northward flowing western boundary currents form in the deep layer. As the density stratification relaxes the topographic control, the westward intensification of the upper boundary current is achieved over the slope. The intensified flow is accompanied by the countercurrent and they form the horizontal recirculation over the slope. However, the effects are confined around the slope region and the interior flow patterns do not change. The lower boundary current is not significantly affected by the slope and has the large width with no countercurrent. It is found that the actual continental slope does not have significant effects on the gross feature of the thermohaline circulation.  相似文献

Methane in the deep water of Izena Cauldron (maximum depth: ca. 1650 m) at the east side of mid-Okinawa Trough was studied by casting a CTD system with 12 Niskin bottles for water sampling at 11 stations inside and outside the cauldron. The water contained much methane up to 706 nmoles/l. The depths of maximum concentration varied widely from station to station, indicating the existence of a considerable number of vents emitting methane and heat. The waters containing less methane formed a straight line in theT-S diagram, while those containing more methane were more largely deviated from the line. The temperature anomaly was virtually proportional to the methane concentration, suggesting that the oxidation rate of methane inside the cauldron is negligibly small and methane can be used as a tracer of the cauldron water. The relation and the estimated vertical diffusivity gave the following fluxes. The emissions of methane and heat out of the bottom below 1450 m turn out to be 1400 moles/day and 7×1010 cal/day, respectively. The total emission rates inside the cauldron are presumed to be about twice the above values. The turnover time of methane has been estimated to be 240 days, which is also that of heat generated from the bottom and probably that of the bottom water.  相似文献
