A regional recovery of the Earth’s gravity field from satellite observables has become particularly important in various geoscience studies in order to better localize stochastic properties of observed data, while allowing the inversion of a large amount of data, collected with a high spatial resolution only over the area of interest. One way of doing this is to use observables, which have a more localized support. As acquired in recent studies related to a regional inversion of the Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) data, the satellite gravity-gradient observables have a more localized support than the gravity observations. Following this principle, we compare here the performance of the second- and third-order derivatives of the gravitational potential in context of a regional gravity modeling, namely estimating the gravity anomalies. A functional relation between these two types of observables and the gravity anomalies is formulated by means of the extended Stokes’ integral formula (or more explicitly its second- and third-order derivatives) while the inverse solution is carried out by applying a least-squares technique and the ill-posed inverse problem is stabilized by applying Tikhonov’s regularization. Our results reveal that the third-order radial derivatives of the gravitational potential are the most suitable among investigated input data types for a regional gravity recovery, because these observables preserve more information on a higher-frequency part of the gravitational spectrum compared to the vertical gravitational gradients. We also demonstrate that the higher-order horizontal derivatives of the gravitational potential do not necessary improve the results. We explain this by the fact that most of the gravity signal is comprised in its radial component, while the horizontal components are considerably less sensitive to spatial variations of the gravity field. 相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental work in order to evaluate the performance of a novel proposed retrofitting technique on a typical dome‐roof adobe building by shaking table tests. For this purpose, two specimens, scaled 2:3, were subjected to a total of nine shaking table tests. The unretrofitted specimen, constructed by common practice, is designed to evaluate seismic performance and vulnerability of dome‐roof adobe houses. The retrofitted specimen, exactly duplicating the first specimen, is retrofitted based on the results obtained from unretrofitted specimen tests, and the improvement in seismic behavior of the structure is investigated. Zarand earthquake (2005) Chatrood Station is selected as the input ground motion that was applied consecutively at 25, 100, 125, 150 and 175% of the design‐level excitation. At 125% excitation level, the roof of the unretofitted specimen collapsed due to the walls' out‐of‐plane action and imbalanced forces. The retrofitting elements consist of eight horizontal steel rods drilled into the walls, passed through the specimen and bolted on the opposite wall surfaces. To improve walls in‐plane seismic performance, welded steel mesh without using mortar, covered less than half area of walls on the external face of the walls, is used. In addition to strain gauges for recording steel rod responses, several instrumentations including acceleration and displacement transducers are implemented to capture response time histories of different parts of the specimens. The corresponding full‐scaled retrofitted prototype tolerated peak acceleration of 0.62 g almost without any serious damage. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Drought events are increasing worldwide. Socio-economic drought is the least investigated type of drought, and is the only type for which water demand is taken into consideration. In this research, socio-economic drought was studied in Lake Mead, USA, using a multivariate standardized water-scarcity index (MSWSI) over the period 1990–2014, combining two water-scarcity indices based on time series of inflow, outflow, reservoir storage, and water demand. The inflow and outflow were determined from streamgage data, and reservoir storage from lake level data; demand was based on water pumped by the Southern Nevada Water Authority. Missing observations in input streamgage data were filled through regression modeling. The results indicate that Lake Mead has been in socio-economic drought since 2000, with the most severe drought occurring between 2006 and 2012, and the highest intensity drought in April–July 2014. The Lake Mead droughts revealed through the MSWSI are consistent with those reported in US Drought Monitor (USDM) products. The temporal behavior of MSWSI provides an insight into the socio-economic effects of droughts not captured by USDM products. 相似文献

AbstractThe equations of wave motion are considered in this article for three-layered medium which consists of liquid and porous layers with finite depth and solid half-space such as ocean bed. By virtue of scalar potential functions for each layer, complicated differential equations of layers are reduced to ordinary differential equations. An analytical method is applied to determine the Green’s functions of media based on an arbitrary shaped time-harmonic excitation at the interface of liquid and porous layers. A Mathcad code is provided to compute the complex integrals. Displacement and stress fields of three layers are discussed. Comparing with special cases, existing answers represent the validity of the proposed method. Numerical results are carried out for circular patch, ring and point loads, and the effects of various parameters on the behavior of the system are plotted. In this article, we suggest a Sitter model in favor of compact stars in low-mass X-ray binaries.Here, we have considered the presence of a cosmological constant(on a small scale) to investigate the stellar structure. We conclude that this approach is very suitable for the familiar physical model of compact stars in low-mass X-ray binaries. We calculate the probable radius, compactness(u) and surface redshift(Z_s) of six compact stars in low-mass X-ray binaries, namely Cyg X-2, V395 Carinae/2 S 0921–630, XTE J2123–058,X1822–371(V691 CrA), 4 U 1820–30 and GR Mus(XB 1254–690). In this study, a waveform retracking algorithm based on finding the inflection-point of the waveform is proposed. After two-steps pre-processing procedure, we employ this method for 145 cycles of Jason-2 data for two tracks 81 and 16 over the Strait of Hormuz. Moreover, we obtain the corrected SSH by the common empirical methods namely Offset Centre of Gravity, Beta and Threshold as well as the ALES. We compare the SSH time series from proposed algorithm with those from common empirical methods. Results are validated against three nearby tide-gauges in the case study. The correlation coefficient and RMSE between the corrected SSH and tide-gages data were computed for three distance classes from the coastline: 0~5, 5~10 and 10~15 kilometer. Our method improves the averaged RMSE of raw SSH up to 41%, 41% and 24%, for these classes over track 81 and 51%, 38% and 41% over track 16, respectively. The averaged correlation values of the proposed method indicate 33%, 11% and 2% improvement over track 81 and are 29%, 14% and 3% over track 16 for three distance groups, respectively. Our method leads to slightly better results than the successful ALES method, especially within the range of 0~5 km. 相似文献

Existence of debris structures inevitably ascends the rate of scour process around bridge piers and flow area not only lead into remarkable deviation of flow but also increase the velocity around bridge piers. A myriad of experimental and field studies to understand effective parameters on the scour depth with debris effects were conducted. To reach permissible values of the scour depth for the practical uses, relationships extracted in previous investigations suffer from lack of generalization for experimental data ranges. In this way, neuro-fuzzy group method of data handling (NF-GMDH)-based self-organized models is applied to evaluate the pier scour depth. In this study, NF-GMDH network is implemented using evolutionary algorithms listed particle swarm optimization (PSO), gravitational search algorithm (GSA), and genetic algorithm (GA). In all, 243 experimental datasets including a wide range of input and output parameters to develop the proposed models were compiled from various literature. The efficiency of NF-GMDH networks for training and testing stages was perused. NF-GMDH-PSO model provided the scour depth with more precise predictions (root mean squared error (RMSE)?=?0.388 and scatter index (SI)?=?0.343) in comparison with NF-GMDH-GA (RMSE?=?0.402 and SI?=?0.361) and NF-GMDH-GSA (RMSE?=?0.456 and SI?=?0.407) networks.
