Visible short-wave infrared laboratory reflectance spectra of quartzites and micaschists from the Precambrian basement of central-western Madagascar are dominated by the muscovite spectrum. The spectra were measured from rock samples collected along an E–W traverse across a metamorphic sequence recording progressively higher metamorphic grades. The wavelength of the Al–OH band around 2200 nm decreased westward and was inversely correlated with AlVI content of muscovite in rocks showing the same nonlimiting assemblage. This shift is correlated also with an increase of band intensity, which is attributed to the progressive increase of metamorphic grade. All of these variations in rock spectral properties can be detected by the high spectral resolution MIVIS and AVIRIS sensors, as well as by the lower resolution TM sensor.  相似文献

The Parasicilide succession is a key element of the southern Apennine orogen, being originally located in the distal portion of the Apulian palaeomargin, at the Neotethys ocean-continent transition. The succession, presently included in the upper nappe complex of the thrust belt, has been described elsewhere as a `broken formation'. However, detailed investigations carried out in the Sele Valley point out that there the Parasicilide Unit is characterized by a coherent stratigraphy. Therefore, in the study area, these rocks form a coherent sheet of distal continental margin/oceanic sedimentary cover material included within the peri-Tyrrhenian mountain belt. Stratigraphic and structural constraints obtained from both pre-and syn-orogenic deposits – the latter including both foredeep and thrust-top basin sediments – suggest that the pre-orogenic part of the Parasicilide succession subsided into the Apennine foredeep in the first part of the Burdigalian. The studied rocks were then involved in thrusting prior to late Burdigalian/early Langhian times.  相似文献

The reconstruction of the thermal history of folded and thrust units is crucial to define the pattern of tectonic loading and the time-space evolution of an orogen where tectonic exhumation processes occurred at shallow crustal levels. In the present study, a well-constrained reconstruction of the thermal maturity in the axial zone of the southern Apennines has been achieved by the combined use of different thermal indicators in diagenesis. The major results are: (i) documentation of a jump in thermal maturity from the Apenninic Platform derived tectonic unit (from immature to early mature stages of hydrocarbon maturation) to the Lagonegro Basin derived tectonic units (late diagenetic zone); (ii) documentation of along-strike slighter variations in the Lagonegro units, concerning thermal maturity (thus maximum burial temperatures). This can be related to changes in amounts of tectonic burial and erosion/exhumation because of the lack of cylindricity of contractional structures; (iii) recognition of an independent thermal evolution of the allochthonous chain compared with the Apulian Platform tectonic unit with Mt Alpi area (in the late mature stage of hydrocarbon generation) interpreted as a sector of localized, intense exhumation within the External Zone of the orogen.  相似文献

In order to better constrain the interpretation and the nature of the seismic reflectors, experimental measurements at high confining pressure (up to 300 MPa) and room temperature of the compressional wave velocity (Vp) on 10 samples representative of the most common lithologies along the Aurina (Ahrntal), Tures (Tauferer Tal), and Badia (Abtei Tal) Valleys profile (Eastern Alps, Italy) have been performed. For each sample, the speed of ultrasonic waves was measured in three mutually perpendicular directions, parallel and normal to the rock foliation and lineation. The main results are:(a) Good agreement between the calculated vs. measured modal compositions of the considered rocks, indicating that they were presumably equilibrated at the estimated PT conditions; therefore, the seismic properties are representative of the crustal level indicated by the thermobarometry.(b) Measured and calculated average Vp are in good agreement, and are typical of mid-crustal level (6.0–6.5 km/s). Only the amphibolites show Vp typical of the lower crust (7.2 km/s).(c) The seismic anisotropy of metapelites is very high (12–27%), both with orthorhombic and transverse isotropy symmetry; amphibolites are transversely isotropic with an anisotropy of 8%; orthogneisses and granitoids are isotropic or weakly anisotropic.(d) The contacts between amphibolites and all other rock types may generate good reflections, provided they are not steeply inclined. Although the metamorphic foliation remains steeply inclined, discordant buried sub-horizontal igneous contacts may be detected.  相似文献

Abstract

The deformation behavior of fine grained limestones from the Monte Sirino area (Lucania region) of the southern Apennines has been analysed by constraining microstructural observations and crystallographic fabrics with data on the metamorphic conditions of deformation. X-ray and infrared analysis of clay minerals, together with illite ‘crystallinity’ data, suggest that the studied rocks underwent very low grade metamorphism in the deep diagenetic zone. The limestones consist of very fine grained (<10 μm) aggregates of micrite. Elliptically-shaped radiolarians, preserved as moulds with coarser (>20 μm) crystalline fillings, provide common strain markers. Optical microstructures and strain analysis indicate heterogeneous intracrystalline strain in the coarser (>50 μm) calcite. On the other hand, SEM and TEM observations, and crystallographic fabrics determined by X-ray texture goniometry, indicate a deformation involving not only intracrystalline slip, but also an important component of grain boundary sliding in the fine grained matrix. The inferred microscopic deformation mechanisms are compared with constitutive flow laws derived from experimental studies. For the maximum inferred temperature of deformation of 250 °C and geologic strain rates of 10?13?10?15 s?1, deformation mechanism maps for calcite suggest twinning and other glide mechanisms to be active in grains larger than about 5?10 μm. Smaller grains would be mostly deformed by grain size sensitive creep mechanisms, which include both diffusion mass transfer processes and grain boundary sliding. Deformation features observed in the study limestones are compatible with the prediction of such temperature-dependent mechanism maps. © 2001 Éditions scientifiques et médicales Elsevier SAS  相似文献

Kyanite-rich and quartz-rich eclogites occur as lenses within amphibolite-facies quartzo-feldspathic gneisses in the Pohorje Mountains, Northern Slovenia, that form the easternmost Austroalpine basement. Major and trace elements indicate that the kyanite-rich eclogites were derived from plagioclase-rich gabbroic cumulates, whereas the quartz-rich eclogites represent more fractionated basaltic compositions. Both varieties are characterized by a LREE-depleted N-MORB type REE signature. Geothermobarometry and P-T pseudosections indicate that eclogites equilibrated at 1.8-2.5 GPa and 630-700 °C, consistently with the lack of coesite and with equilibration conditions of the chemically similar eclogites from the adjacent basement units at Koralpe and Saualpe type localities. Decompression reaction textures include (i) clinopyroxene-plagioclase intergrowths after omphacite, (ii) replacement of kyanite by corundum-plagioclase-spinel±sapphirine symplectites, (iii) breakdown of phengite to biotite-plagioclase sapphirine symplectites. The results of this study indicate that Koralpe, Saualpe and Pohorje high-pressure rocks represent former MORB-type oceanic crust that was subducted in the course of the late Cretaceous (approximately 100 Ma ago) collision between the European and the Apulian plates.  相似文献

Euganean trachyte is a subvolcanic porphyritic rock extracted in northern Italy with an age-old tradition of use as dimension stone, historically linked, in particular, to the fervent building activity brought by the Roman Empire and, later on, the Republic of Venice Serenissima. The results of a comprehensive petrophysical and mechanical characterization of Euganean trachyte from the most representative quarries are discussed here, involving the following properties: density, porosity, water absorption, capillary water uptake, hygroscopic water adsorption, hydric/hygric dilatation, water vapor diffusion, thermal expansion, and resistance to salt attack and abrasion. The different trachyte varieties, although belonging to the same quarry basin, exhibit a relatively wide array of technical performances, which are strongly dependent on pore volume, size, size distribution, shape, and degree of interconnection, controlling modes and rates of water transport and retention. Therefore, indications are provided for evaluating durability performance of the stone, with stress on water-driven weathering. Complementary information is finally given on the possible criteria followed in the antiquity for properly selecting the trachyte quarries to be exploited, and by a comparison with the properties of the most important trachytes extracted in Europe.  相似文献
