The distribution of protein and carbohydrate concentrations of the particulate matter (size fraction: 0.45–160 μm) was studied, from 22 January 2003 to 02 December 2003, in three ponds of increasing salinity in the Sfax solar saltern (Tunisia). The coupling of N/P: DIN (DIN = NO2 + NO3 + NH4+) to DIP (DIP = PO43−) with P/C: protein/carbohydrates ratios along salinity gradient allowed the discrimination of three types of ecosystems. Pond A1 (mean salinity: 45.0 ± 5.4) having marine characteristics showed enhanced P/C ratios during a diatom bloom. N/P and P/C ratios were closely coupled throughout the sampling period, suggesting that the nutritional status is important in determining the seasonal change in the phytoplankton community in pond A1. In pond A16 (mean salinity: 78.7 ± 8.8), despite the high nitrate load, P/C ratios were overall lower than in pond A1. This may be explained by the fact that dinoflagellates, which were the most abundant phytoplankton in pond A16 might be strict heterotrophs and/or mixotrophs, and so they may have not contributed strongly to anabolic processes. Also, N/P and P/C ratios were uncoupled, suggesting that cells in pond A16 were stressed due to the increased salinity caused by water evaporation, and so cells synthesized reserve products such as carbohydrates. In pond M2 (mean salinity: 189.0 ± 13.8), P/C levels were higher than those recorded in either pond A1 or A16. N/P and P/C were more coupled than in pond A16. Species in the hypersaline pond seemed paradoxally less stressed than in pond A16, suggesting that salt-tolerant extremophile species overcome hypersaline constraints and react metabolically by synthesizing carbohydrates and proteins.  相似文献

This paper presents geochemical analysis of drilled cutting samples from the OMZ‐2 oil well located in southern Tunisia. A total of 35 drill‐cutting samples were analyzed for Rock‐Eval pyrolysis, total organic carbon (TOC), bitumens extraction and liquid chromatography. Most of the Ordovician, Silurian and Triassic samples contained high TOC contents, ranging from 1.00 to 4.75% with an average value of 2.07%. The amount of hydrocarbon yield (pyrolysable hydrocarbon: S2b) expelled during pyrolysis indicates a good generative potential of the source rocks. The plot of TOC versus S2b, indicates a good to very good generative potential for organic matter in the Ordovician, Silurian and Lower Triassic. However, the Upper Triassic and the Lower Jurassic samples indicate fair to good generative potential. From the Vankrevelen diagram, the organic matter in the Ordovician, Silurian and Lower Triassic samples is mainly of type II kerogen and the organic matter from the Upper Triassic and the Lower Jurassic is dominantly type III kerogen with minor contributions from Type I. The thermal maturity of the organic matter in the analyzed samples is also evaluated based on the Tmax of the S2b peak. The Ordovician and Lower Silurian formations are thermally matured. The Upper Silurian and Triassic deposits are early matured to matured. However, Jurassic formations are low in thermal maturity. The total bitumen extracts increase with depth from the interval 1800–3000 m. This enrichment indicates that the trapping in situ in the source rocks and relatively short distance vertical migration can be envisaged in the overlying reservoirs. During the vertical migration from source rocks to the reservoirs, these hydrocarbons are probably affected by natural choromatography and in lower proportion by biodegradation.  相似文献

The macrozoobenthos associated with the introduced pearl oyster Pinctada radiata has been sampled at two different spatial scales of three sectors (order of hundreds of kilometres) and of eight localities (order of tens of kilometres). Moreover, the NW sector was selected to compare three localities with the presence of P. radiata (low density) and one locality where it was totally absent. The first design was hierarchical, with random localities nested within sectors; the second one was an asymmetrical factorial design, in which the presence/absence of Pinctada and hydrodynamism were considered. Similarity relationships were investigated by means of multivariate clustering, similarity percentage analysis and nm-MDS ordination; the two experimental designs have been tested by permutational MANOVA and analysis of dispersion (PERMDISP). Most of the variability of the associated zoobenthic community appeared to be mainly captured by local environmental factors; the meso-scale variability was more discriminating than differences at larger spatial scale. Large scale NW–SE biogeographic gradient may also have some effects in the assemblage composition. Although the whole arrangement of samples in the MDS plane showed a clear Bray-Curtis distance between the locality without Pinctada and all the remaining sites, pair-wise contrasts were not all significant. The factor “presence/absence” was not significant in this design, whereas the exposure was more indicative of differences in the local assemblage composition. These results may not confirm that the community structure variability is due to the impact of Pincata invasion because the potential and subtle community shift may be masked by the overwhelming influence of just the local environmental gradients. In spite of this, the introduced oyster may play the role of an engineer species at high densities, contributing to the complexity of the benthic habitat and influencing the trophic pattern of its fauna.  相似文献

Multivariate statistical methods and geochemical modeling were used to assess spatial variation of water quality of the Soummam basin, Algeria. The application of hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) showed three main groups of samples. Group 1 samples are exclusively composed of surface water. Groups 2 and 3 samples consist of groundwater. Discriminant analysis assigned about 98.6% of the cases grouped by HCA. All groups are super-saturated with Ca-montmorillonite, dolomite, gibbsite, K-mica, kaolinite, and quartz, and all these groups are under-saturated with albite, anhydrite, anorthite, CO2(g), gypsum, halite, melanterite, and smithsonite. The results of analysis of variance indicate that the saturation indices of each of the mineral phases are significant except for chalcedony and quartz (p > 0.05). The results obtained by inverse geochemical modeling show the dissolution of albite, which justifies Na enrichment during the chemical evolution of groundwater. Calcite, dolomite, Ca-montmorillonite, kaolinite, illite, gibbsite, and K-mica are shown to have always precipitated.  相似文献

The most of shallow earthquakes are followed, just after the main shock, by increased residual seismicity known as “aftershocks” or “aftershock sequences”. Because of their disparity in time and space, aftershock sequences are more or less obvious and their productivity is spread out in time. Several studies have been regularly proposed to explain or to understand the mechanisms of the occurrence and the behaviour of these small earthquakes. In a theoretical context, many factors can induce the aftershock triggering: residual friction, subcritical crack growth, pore fluid flow etc. Just after the occurrence of the most destructive main shock of the 21 May 2003 Boumerdes (Algeria) earthquake, a wide sequence of aftershocks was recorded at different geographical locations and with various magnitudes. Based on the fact that the region of Boumerdes (40 km east of the capital Algiers) did not develop major earthquakes in the past, a geostatistical investigation of the data for this aftershock sequence is a valuable input for better seismogeological identification of this area. In the present analysis, after an overview of the geological factors in the likely occurrence of the earthquake, fundamental statistical parameters were chosen: the b value from the Gutenberg–Richter law, the p factor of the extracted respectively from the b value and the fractal variogram defined as a graphic tool to describe the continuity or the roughness of data. Jointly to the geostatistical parameters provided by the variogram like the fractal dimension. The main objective of the calculation and interpretation of these parameters is oriented towards a better understanding of the seismicity of the region of Boumerdes (Algeria) now classified as seismogenic zone.  相似文献

The chemical and mineralogical composition of the Sidi Aïch Formation sandstones in central and southwestern Tunisia has been investigated in order to infer the provenance and tectonic setting, as well as to appraise the influence of weathering. The sixteen studied samples are mainly composed of quartz, feldspar, kaolinite and/or illite. Sidi Aïch sandstones are mainly arkosic, potassic feldspar-rich and immature. Much of the feldspar was transformed to kaolinite. Concerning the relation between sandstone detrital composition and their depositional setting, the Sidi Aïch Formation sandstone in the major studied localities, probably accumulated in relatively proximal small basins within the continental interior. However, for the Khanguet El Ouara study site, sandstones may have been deposited in a foreland basin which received recycled sediments from an adjacent orogenic belt.The source area may have included quartzose sedimentary rocks. The dominance of quartz and enrichment in immobile elements suggest that the depositional basins were associated with a passive margin. The petrography and geochemistry reflect a stable continental margin and sediments were derived from granitic and pegmatitic sources located in the southern parts of the Gafsa basin. High values for the chemical index of alteration (CIA) indicate that recycling processes might have been important. Particularly high CIA values in the Garet Hadid locality indicate more intense chemical alteration, either due to weathering processes or tectonic control.  相似文献

The geochemical analysis of the organic-rich facies from the Ypresian basin in central–northern Tunisia shows that the organic matter is marine originated (type II) and displays a low thermal maturity level in outcropping samples. This study proves that the distribution, conservation and, therefore, the composition of the organic matter have been controlled by the dynamic of the Ypresian basin. The Ypresian period corresponds to an anoxic event, which led to the accumulation and preservation of good quantities of organic matter derived from a high primary production. This paper evaluates the quality of the ensemble hydrological reforecasts obtained using the 18-year ensemble meteorological reforecast dataset available from the Canadian Centre for Meteorological and Environmental Prediction (CCMEP). This study focuses on four large watersheds in the province of Quebec. A distribution-based scaling (DBS) post-processing method is used to correct the 18-year ensemble precipitation reforecasts. An Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) assimilation technique is also assessed to improve the initial conditions of the hydrologic model. There is a slight improvement in performance and reliability after applying the DBS approach to precipitation reforecasts, but this technique induces a reduction in the spread. The impact of the integration of the post-processed precipitation into the hydrologic model is also quite marginal. However, the addition of an EnKF provides better ensemble hydrological reforecasts with high performance, reliability, and skill, especially in the first reforecast horizons. The best results are, however, generally obtained when using DBS and an EnKF together. Combining DBS and an EnKF, hydrological forecasts for the next two weeks are obtained using the CCMEP reforecast and also the second generation Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS v2) reforecast, which is considered a reference. Forecasts of comparable skill and spread are obtained, with CCMEP-based forecasts showing better spread during the first week, and GEFS v2–based reforecasts showing better skill and spread during the second week. Finally, it is shown that the two meteorological reforecast products assessed in this study have similar economic value for hydrological forecasting applications based on the cost–loss model.  相似文献

This work presents geochemical characterization of isolated kerogen out of clay fraction using petrography studies, infrared absorption and solid state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, with N‐alkane distributions of saturated hydrocarbon. Mineralogical study of clay mineral associations was carried out using X‐ray diffraction (XRD), on Ypresian phosphatic series from Gafsa‐Metlaoui basin, Tunisia. The XRD data indicate that smectite, palygorskite and sepiolite are the prevalent clay minerals in the selected samples. In this clay mineral association, the N‐alkane (m/z = 57) distribution indicates that the marine organic matter is plankton and bacterial in origin. The kerogens observed on transmitted light microscopy, however, appear to be totally amorphous organic matter, without any appearance of biological form. The orange gel‐like amorphous organic matter with distinct edges and homogenous texture is consistent with a high degree of aliphaticity. This material has relatively intense CH2 and CH3 infrared bands in 13C NMR peaks. This aliphatic character is related to bacterial origin. Brown amorphous organic matter with diffuse edges has a lower aliphatic character than the previous kerogen, deduced from relatively low CH2 and CH3 infrared and 13C NMR band intensities.  相似文献
