Small angle scattering techniques (SAXS and SANS) have been used to investigate the microstructural properties of the subbituminous coals (Rmax 0.42–0.45%) from the Huntly Coalfield, New Zealand. Samples were collected from the two thick (> 5 m) coal seams in the coalfield and have been analysed for methane and carbon dioxide sorption capacity, petrography, pore size distribution, specific surface area and porosity.Specific surface area (SSA) available for carbon dioxide adsorption, extrapolated to a probe size of 4 Å, ranged from 1.25 × 106 cm? 1 to 4.26 × 106 cm? 1 with total porosity varying from 16% to 25%. Porosity was found to be predominantly composed of microporosity, which contributed the majority of the available SSA. Although considerable variation was seen between samples, the results fit well with published rank trends.Gas holding capacity at the reservoir pressure (approximately 4 MPa) ranged from 2.63 to 4.18 m3/t for methane on a dry, ash-free basis (daf) and from 22.00 to 23.72 m3/t daf for carbon dioxide. The resulting ratio of CO2:CH4 ranged from 5.7 to 8.6, with an average of 6.7:1.Holding capacities for both methane and carbon dioxide on a dry ash free basis (daf) were found to be correlated with sample microporosity. However, holding capacities for the two gases on an as analysed (aa) basis (that is including mineral matter and moisture), showed no such correlation. Carbon dioxide (aa) does show a negative correlation with both specific surface area and microporosity. As the coals have low inorganic matter content, the reversal is thought to be related to moisture which is likely concentrated in the pore size range 12.5–125 Å. Methane holding capacity, both daf and aa, correlates with macroporosity, thus suggesting that the holding capacity of micropores is diminished by the presence of moisture in the pores. 相似文献

Engineering mechanics of liquefied soil is presented. Firstly, experimental methods and their results are described in order to show that liquefied soil can be approximated as a viscous fluid. The experiments proposed allow for determination of dynamic viscosity of liquefied soil, which is of the order of 106 Ns/m2. This value agrees with some theoretical estimates. Then, the model of viscous fluid is applied to practically important problems, in order to predict sinking of structures in liquefied subsoil, and to describe underwater flows of seabed. Enclosed examples show that the model and methods proposed lead to realistic results and, therefore, can be applied in engineering calculations. 相似文献

Geomorphologists have long debated over whether certain geomorphic types of landscapes may evolve only in certain climatic conditions, with granite terrains often chosen to illustrate such climate–relief relationships. The view deeming inselberg landscapes in particular to be distinctively tropical is difficult to sustain in the light of research demonstrating both the wide global distribution of inselbergs and evident rock control on their origins and development. However, another geomorphic type of granite landscapes has emerged as possibly specific to low latitude terrains, characterized by efficient deep weathering. In the context of the ongoing debate, this paper considers the case of multiconvex topography, consisting of low hills weathered throughout, which is widely distributed in South America, Africa and Southeast Asia but not yet reported from middle or high latitudes. Multiconvex landscapes require that weathering operates efficiently in all topographic settings and that dissection proceeds to maintain relative relief. Hence they tend to be associated with areas subject to moderate uplift. There is little chance for this type of relief to survive major environmental changes towards aridity or cooling because stripping of the weathering mantle will not be compensated by saprolite renewal. 相似文献

Experiments related to impacts onto three-component targets which could simulate cometary nucleus or planetary regolith cemented by ices are presented here. The impact velocities are from 133 to 632 m s−1. The components are powdered mineral (pyrophylite), H2O ice, and CO2 ice mixed 1:1:0.74 by mass. The porosity of fresh samples is about 0.48. Two types of the samples were studied: nonheated samples and samples heated by thermal radiation. Within the samples a layered structure was formed. The cratering pattern strongly depended on the history of the samples. The craters formed in nonheated targets had regular shapes. The volume was easy to be determined and it was proportional to impact energy E. The crater depth scales as E0.5. Impacts on the thermally stratified target led to ejection of a large amount of material from the loose sub-crustal layer. For some particular interval of impact velocity a cratering pattern can demonstrate unusual properties: small hole through the rigid crust and considerable mass transfer (radially, outward of the impact point) within sub-crustal layer. 相似文献

self-absorption by interplanetary hydrogen, realistic solar HLyαemission profile, and a time dependent `hot' hydrogen model to analyze 5 interplanetary HLyα glow spectra obtained with theHubble–Space–Telescope–GHRS spectrometer, has not resulted in unequivocal determination of
a set of thermodynamical parameters of the interstellar hydrogen The residual discrepancies between the model and the data
concern the observations performed within an interval of 1 year close to the solar minimum from very similar lines of sight.
In this paper we investigate by calculating interplanetary HLyα lines with the use of a one hydrogen distribution and several solar HLyα line profiles whether this residual may be caused by possible variations in time of the shape of the solar HLyα emission line profile which cause variable illuminations of the interplanetary gas. These variations of illuminations cause
variations in Doppler shift of the resonant interplanetary HLyα line that can amount to ≃ 4 km s-1in the line peak. Consequently we conclude that without adequate knowledge of the solar HLyα emission line profile during spectral observations of the interplanetary hydrogen gas it is impossible to obtain an agreement
between models and observations better than by this value.

In this paper we describe the results of a research campaign dedicated to the studies of aerosol optical properties in different regions of both the open Baltic Sea and its coastal areas. During the campaign we carried out simultaneous measurements of aerosol optical depth at 4 stations with the use of the hand-held Microtops II sun photometers. The studies were complemented with aerosol data provided by the MODIS. In order to obtain the full picture of aerosol situation over the study area, we added to our analyses the air mass back-trajectories at various altitudes as well as wind fields. Such complex information facilitated proper conclusions regarding aerosol optical depth and Ångström exponent for the four locations and discussion of the changes of aerosol properties with distance and with changes of meteorological factors. We also show that the Microtops II sun photometers are reliable instruments for field campaigns. They are easy to operate and provide good quality results. 相似文献
