A new technique to determine flattening strain from initially concentric folds is described in this paper. The proposed method is simple and involves direct measurements on fold profiles. It requires measurement of the distance between the center of the fold to the middle of the layer, and this is plotted as a function of line orientation. A model for temperature variations in sedimentary basins due to random radiogenic heat sources 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The thermal structure of a sedimentary basin is controlled by its thermal conductivity, its boundary conditions, water flow, rate of sedimentation and erosion and radiogenic heat sources. The radiogenic heat production in the sediments is known to vary over several orders of magnitude, with the lowest values in evaporites and carbonates and the highest values in black shales. Due to a paucity of information available on the existing heat sources, this parameter can be represented with a known mean value and a Gaussian correlation structure rather than a deterministic function. In this paper, the 1-D steady-state thermal structure in a sedimentary basin has been modelled in a stochastic framework with a random radiogenic heat source, and analytical expressions for the first two moments of the temperature field have been obtained. A synthetic example has been examined to quantify the error bounds on the temperature field due to uncertainties in the radiogenic heat sources. 相似文献

Intense geomagnetic storms with DST index -100 nT were recorded on 9 March and 11 March 1993 associated with solar activity on 6 March and 9-10 March, respectively. In this paper, we discuss the characteristic features of the solar origins of the two events that gave rise to coronal and interplanetary disturbances and as a consequence produced strong geomagnetic activity at the Earth. The source of the activity in one case is attributed to a major 3M7.0 flare that occurred on 6 March 1993 and in the other case, to two large filament disruptions on the disk during 9-10 March, 1993. Both these sources were found to be located near changing or varying low-latitude coronal holes. They were also located close to the heliospheric currents sheets. Distinct X-ray activity was observed for both the events as observed by the Yohkoh SXT telescope. The detailed evolution and a comparison of these events on the basis of Yohkoh soft X-ray observations are presented here. 相似文献

Multi temporal dat acquired at different growth stages increases the dimensionality information content and have advantage over single date data for crop classification. Attempt was made to select suitable single date and combination of multidate data for wheat crop classification in Nalanda district of Bihar state where pulses and other crops are also grown in rabi season. Amongst the single date data February data was found to be better for wheat classification in comparison to November. January, March and April data. Combination of first two principal components each derived from IRS LISS-I four band data acquired in January and February was found to be the best set. Size-differentiated concentrations of SPM, F, Cl, NO3, SO4, Na, K, Ca, Mg and NH4 in atmospheric aerosols were measured in a suburban area of Agra city during December 1992 to March 1993. Except for NH4, Cl and Na, all components were found to have a bimodal distribution. The fine fraction was dominated by NH4, K, NO3 and SO4, while Na, Ca, Mg, F and Cl contributed to the coarse fraction. Fifty-eight percent of SO4 and 67% of NO3 were found in the fine mode and the coarse mode comprised 42 and 33% of SO4 and NO3, respectively. SO4 was found to have a peak above the submicron range at 1.1 µm which has been attributed to secondary sulphate formation by heterogeneous oxidation of SO2 on alkaline particles of Ca and Mg. The total aerosol was basic in nature and dominated by the soil-derived acid neutralising components (Ca, Mg and Na). 相似文献

Igneous rocks, silicate minerals and native sulphur have been analysed for their mercury content by a microwave-excited argon plasma. Basic and ultrabasic igneous rocks have abundances between 3 and 31 ppb Hg. The granitic rocks show much larger variations. The content in the silicate minerals is highly variable, ranging from less than 1 ppb Hg in an igneous biotite to 55 ppb Hg in a pegmatitic biotite. The analysed clay minerals give 110 and 200 ppb Hg. Volcanic elemental S contain from 11 to 9300 ppb Hg, the values on the lower side being from oceanic volcanoes and on the higher side for continental or marginal volcanoes. 相似文献

ERTS; MSS data of Obon area, Montalban region, Spain were clustered into 14 non-supervised cluster classes. Statistical analysis of frequency distribution of these cluster classes in different units of interest for samples of 25, 50, 100 and 200 pixels was carried out. The results indicate that the variability of distribution is more in rock unils, and a sample size of 100 pixels represents nearest to the mean. The variability is less in non-rock units (e.g. water) and a sample size of 50 pixels is the optimum, at the present level of classification. 相似文献

An investigation of the linear stability of the cometary inner sheath, the boundary layer surrounding the ionopause which separates the outflowing unmagnetized plasma from an inflowing magnetized plasma, has been carried out by taking into account the large Larmor radius effects. The structure of the boundary layer is determined by the balance between an outward ion-neutral collisional drag force and an inward magnetic stress. The eigenvalues and the eigenfunctions are obtained numerically by treating the cometary ionosphere as a layer of finite thickness, bounded by the contact surface, i.e., the diamagnetic cavity boundary. Certain limiting cases of the wave equations are also discussed. In general, the cometary ionosphere is structurally linearly unstable and the effects of recombination, photoionization, plasma pressure, though stabilizing are unable to quench the instability completely. The large Larmor radius also has a destabilizing effect on the system. The instability of the cometosheath is further proved by the

A detailed period study of the eclipsing binary system AW UMa is presented. A new period (P=0d.4387317) is given. Period changes in different portions of the O-C diagram, based on new period, have been estimated. The total change in period (P) ranges from 2.2×10–7 to 2.8×10–6 d, which is normal for AW UMa systems. Two distinct linear trends of period are visible in the O-C diagram. A third trend shows a new change in the period behaviour, which is yet to be confined. 相似文献
