Vidicon data for the intensities of Balmer and Paschen lines for n = 11 to 18 indicate a line ratio within 1σ of the theoretical value of 3.27, calculated with the assumptions of an optically thin atmosphere and angular momentum substates populated according to their statistical weights. In this paper we consider the dynamics of the electrostatic disruption products of fragile interplanetary dust aggregates which are initially electrically charged on entering the Jovian plasmasphere. On account of their large specific charges, these small dust fragments are strongly effected both by the Lorentz electric force as well as by the polarization electric force resulting from the corotation of the Jovian plasmasphere. The detailed orbits of these charged dust fragments, which are shown to be confined to the equatorial plane, are computed for various launch angles. It is established that the fragments with radii typically around 1 are magneto-gravitationally trapped within the plasma sphere due to the velocity induced oscillation of their surface potentials. The spatial distribution of these fragments are evaluated and the time evolution of the distributions followed. On this basis it is argued that the distribution of micrometeoroid dust within the Jovian magnetospheres, observed by the Pioneer 10 and the recent Voyager spacecraft, is a result of this magneto-gravitational trapping and subsequent orbital evolution of these charged dust fragments. Our discussion includes both the sudden increase, by over an order of magnitude, of the micrometeoroid dust flux at about 30R

observed by Pioneer 10, and the thin inner dust ring recently observed by the Voyaer spacecraft. Spatial and temporal patterns of distribution and abundance were examined for postsettlement sciaenids collected from seagrass meadows in the Aransas Estuary, Texas. Overall, 5443 sciaenid larvae and early juveniles were identified from biweekly epibenthic sled collections taken from August 1994 to August 1995. Eight species were present in seagrass meadows, with five accounting for over 99.9% of sciaenids collected: silver perch (Bairdiella chrysoura), spotted seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus), spot (Leiostomus xanthurus), Atlantic croaker (Micropogonias undulatus), and red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus). Settlement to seagrass meadows was partitioned temporally with little overlap among the five species. Postsettlers from inshore spawners (B. chrysoura, C. nebulosus, S. ocellatus) inhabited seagrass meadows during the spring and summer, while individuals from offshore spawners (L. xanthurus, M. undulatus) were present in the late fall and winter. Densities ofB. chrysoura, C. nebulosus, S. ocellatus were highest for small individuals (4–8 mm SL) and these taxa remained in seagrass sites through the early juvenile stage. Conversely,L. xanthurus andM. undulatus maintained longer pelagic periods and generally entered seagrass meadows at larger sizes (10–14 mm SL). Moreover, these taxa were only temporary residents of selected seagrass meadows, apparently migrating to alternative habitats shortly after arrival. During peak settlement, mean and maximum densities among species ranged from 0.1 m?2 to 0.8 m?2 and 0.7 m?2 to 23.8 m?2, respectively. Beljaars et al. (1987) developed a model for neutrally stratified boundary-layer flow over roughness changes and topography. It has been discovered that a constant parameter, , was missing in the algebraic-stress closure equations of their paper. This omission also occurred in the MSFD model code but only affects the Askervein Hill shear-stress results for the E-- turbulence closure in Beljaars et al. It also changes the stress results of Karpik (1988), but not his conclusions regarding the robustness of his improved numerical scheme. The adiabatic single-crystal elastic moduli of a natural sample of monticellite (CaMgSiO4), with the olivine crystal structure, have been measured under ambient conditions using Brillouin spectroscopy. From the single-crystal moduli the aggregate bulk and shear moduli are calculated to be K
s=106±1 and = 55.2±0.4 GPa, respectively. These results are consistent with a systematic decrease in bulk modulus with increasing molar volume among the olivine-structured silicates. The longitudinal moduli decrease in the order c

We tested the hypothesis that strontium:calcium (Sr:Ca) in otoliths are reflective of environmental salinity experienced by
two estuarine fishes during early life. Laboratory and field experiments were performed to examine the effects of salinity
and temperature on Sr:Ca in otoliths of black drum (Pogonias cromis) and red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus). Otolith Sr:Ca of juveniles reared at four salinities (5‰, 15‰, 25‰, 35‰) differed significantly forP. cromis while no salinity effect was observed forS. ocellatus. Otolith Sr:Ca of both species were not affected by temperature (23°C and 30°C), suggesting that partitioning of Sr in otoliths
of these taxa is constant over the temperature range examined. A field verification trial was conducted forP. cromis and a positive relationship between otolith Sr:Ca and ambient salinity was observed, even though the percent variability
explained was modest. A series of Sr:Ca point measurements were taken from the core to the edge of the otoliths of wildP. cromis andS. ocellatus, and otolith Sr:Ca chronologies of both species showed conspicuous declines during the first few months of life. While Sr:Ca
chronologies of both species suggest that ingress is associated with a reduction in otolith Sr:Ca, inconsistencies in laboratory
and field experiments intimate that Sr uptake in the otolith may be insensitive to salinity and regulated by other factors
(aqueous chemistry, ontogenetic shifts in habitat, or physiology). Results from early life history transects of otolith Sr:Ca
conform to expected patterns of estuarine ingress-egress during early life and indicate that the approach may be useful for
