Multichannel seismic reflection profiles recorded in the northern Red Sea show structures that we interpret to be a result of the intrusion of uppermost Miocene salt. We believe that the evaporites are underlaid by attenuated continental crust and the flow of salt is due to renewed faulting of basement in the Pliocene when sea floor spreading began between latitudes 21°N and 15°30°N. 相似文献

The ‘average’ interdiffusion coefficient ( \(\bar D\) ) for NaSi—CaAl exchange in plagioclase for the interval from An0 to An26 was estimated from experimentally determined homogenization times for peristerite exsolution lamellae. The average spacing between adjacent (unlike) lamellae is 554±77 Å. Dry heating in air at 1,100°C for 98 days produced no change in the exsolution microstructure; thus \(\bar D\) (dry)<10?17 cm2/s. This limit is consistent with the recently reported ‘average’ \(\bar D\) (dry) values for the Huttenlocher interval (An70–90) at this temperature. At 1.5 GPa with about 0.2 weight percent water added the ‘average’ diffusion coefficient from 1,100°C to 900°C is given by: \(\bar D\) (wet)=18 ?15 +108 (cm2/s) exp (?97±5 (kcal/mol)/RT), where R is the gas constant, and T is °K. This \(\bar D\) (wet) at 1,100°C is more than three orders of magnitude greater than \(\bar D\) (dry) for Na- and Ca-rich plagioclases. 相似文献

Cation exchange capacity determinations on sediments of the California Borderland indicate that exchange capacities are increased under highly reducing conditions, and result in magnesium removal from the pore water. Archival Hubble Space Telescope (HST) data have been used for the photometry of stars in blue compact dwarf (BCD) galaxies of the IZw18 system. Applying the spatial selection of stars, we have detected red giants, stars older than 1–2 Gyr, in the galaxies. These red giants have allowed the distance to IZw18 to be reliably determined for the first time: D = 13.9 ± 1.2 Mpc. The presence of old stars in the galaxies of the IZw18 system refutes the hypothesis about the observed primary star formation in these galaxies. 相似文献

The present study investigated the proposed involvement of contaminant-stimulated reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in disease processes in fish. NAD(P)H-dependent ROS production of subcellular fractions was determined by the iron/EDTA-mediated oxidation of 2-keto-4-methiolbutyric acid. Hepatic cytosolic NADPH-dependent and microsomal NAD(P)H-dependent ROS production were increased 51-160% (P < 0.05) in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) 15 weeks after a single i.p. injection of polychlorobiphenyl (PCB) (100 mg Clophen A50 kg-1 wet wt.). Hepatic microsomal NADH-dependent ROS production was 114% higher in perch (Perca fluviatilis) from PCB-contaminated Lake J?rnsj?n compared to clean Lake V?nern, Sweden. Hepatic mitochondrial NADH-dependent, cytosolic NADH-dependent and microsomal NADPH-dependent ROS production were variously elevated up to 160% in flounder (Platichthys flesus) at various sites along two pollution transects near to the ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Overall the data indicate increased potential for ROS production in liver of fish exposed to field pollution, and support the hypothesis of oxidative stress as a mechanism of contaminant-mediated disease in fish. 相似文献
