The sediment-hosted stratiform Cu–Co mineralization of the Luiswishi and Kamoto deposits in the Katangan Copperbelt is hosted by the Neoproterozoic Mines Subgroup. Two main hypogene Cu–Co sulfide mineralization stages and associated gangue minerals (dolomite and quartz) are distinguished. The first is an early diagenetic, typical stratiform mineralization with fine-grained minerals, whereas the second is a multistage syn-orogenic stratiform to stratabound mineralization with coarse-grained minerals. For both stages, the main hypogene Cu–Co sulfide minerals are chalcopyrite, bornite, carrollite, and chalcocite. These minerals are in many places replaced by supergene sulfides (e.g., digenite and covellite), especially near the surface, and are completely oxidized in the weathered superficial zone and in surface outcrops, with malachite, heterogenite, chrysocolla, and azurite as the main oxidation products. The hypogene sulfides of the first Cu–Co stage display δ34S values (−10.3‰ to +3.1‰ Vienna Canyon Diablo Troilite (V-CDT)), which partly overlap with the δ34S signature of framboidal pyrites (−28.7‰ to 4.2‰ V-CDT) and have ∆34SSO4-Sulfides in the range of 14.4‰ to 27.8‰. This fractionation is consistent with bacterial sulfate reduction (BSR). The hypogene sulfides of the second Cu–Co stage display δ34S signatures that are either similar (−13.1‰ to +5.2‰ V-CDT) to the δ34S values of the sulfides of the first Cu–Co stage or comparable (+18.6‰ to +21.0‰ V-CDT) to the δ34S of Neoproterozoic seawater. This indicates that the sulfides of the second stage obtained their sulfur by both remobilization from early diagenetic sulfides and from thermochemical sulfate reduction (TSR). The carbon (−9.9‰ to −1.4‰ Vienna Pee Dee Belemnite (V-PDB)) and oxygen (−14.3‰ to −7.7‰ V-PDB) isotope signatures of dolomites associated with the first Cu–Co stage are in agreement with the interpretation that these dolomites are by-products of BSR. The carbon (−8.6‰ to +0.3‰ V-PDB) and oxygen (−24.0‰ to −10.3‰ V-PDB) isotope signatures of dolomites associated with the second Cu–Co stage are mostly similar to the δ13C (−7.1‰ to +1.3‰ V-PDB) and δ18O (−14.5‰ to −7.2‰ V-PDB) of the host rock and of the dolomites of the first Cu–Co stage. This indicates that the dolomites of the second Cu–Co stage precipitated from a high-temperature, host rock-buffered fluid, possibly under the influence of TSR. The dolomites associated with the first Cu–Co stage are characterized by significantly radiogenic Sr isotope signatures (0.70987 to 0.73576) that show a good correspondence with the Sr isotope signatures of the granitic basement rocks at an age of ca. 816 Ma. This indicates that the mineralizing fluid of the first Cu–Co stage has most likely leached radiogenic Sr and Cu–Co metals by interaction with the underlying basement rocks and/or with arenitic sedimentary rocks derived from such a basement. In contrast, the Sr isotope signatures (0.70883 to 0.71215) of the dolomites associated with the second stage show a good correspondence with the 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.70723 to 0.70927) of poorly mineralized/barren host rocks at ca. 590 Ma. This indicates that the fluid of the second Cu–Co stage was likely a remobilizing fluid that significantly interacted with the country rocks and possibly did not mobilize additional metals from the basement rocks.  相似文献

Summary In the first part of this study, intensive measurements of particulate matter and trace gaseous were made to assess the characteristics of air pollutants in 14 sites covering most of Egypt, and to present a clear picture about the relationship of air pollutants with meteorology. The goal of this study is to examine the effect of weather conditions and air pollutants on the receipt of solar radiation during cloudless days at five sites. The results have shown, that the relative attenuation of the total solar radiation varied dramatically from 22% in winter to about 9.3% in summer. This finding may be attributed to PM10 and CO effects, which are in the highest level during winter.  相似文献

The temporal and spatial distribution of water within a porous medium is affected by the medium’s structure, i.e., the spatial arrangement of its constituents. To analyze structural effects on the fluid dynamics, we measured the 3D water content distribution in a heterogeneous sand column during two drainage-wetting cycles using neutron transmission tomography. The sample with a volume of 105 cm3 contained 101 cubes of fine and 49 cubes of coarse sand with particles ranging from 0.01 to 0.05 and 0.03 to 0.09 cm, respectively. The pressure at the lower boundary was determined by the water reservoir positioned between 7 and 39 cm below the top of the column. The duration of one complete 3D scanning with a spatial resolution of 127 μm was 56 s. The signal to noise ratio of the measurements was low due to the short exposure time in the neutron beam, but it was possible to quantify the water content in the individual cubes and hence the effect of structure on macroscopic water distribution. Continuous structures of coarse sand drained faster than coarse sand without connection to the upper boundary. During the initial wetting phase, cubes of coarse sand material completely embedded in the fine material remained water unsaturated due to air entrapment. The effect of the coarse sand connectivity was analyzed in two-dimensional numerical simulations based on Richards equation. In contrast to the measurements, no effect of structure connectivity was found. The coarse sand cubes embedded within the fine matrix drain as quickly as the coarse sand cubes arranged in a continuous channel due to the model assumption of a continuous air phase.  相似文献

Abstract: The northern part of Um Naggat granite massif (UNGM) has suffered extensive post-magmatic metasomatic reworking which results into the development of (Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, U, Th, F)– and albite-enriched and greisenized apogranite body (UNAP) of 600 m thick, and more than 3 km in the strike length.
Albitization produced an enrichment in Zr (av. 2384 ppm), Hf (61), Nb (419), and U (43). The Th/U ratio ranges between 1. 33 and 1. 90. Extreme albitization (i. e. the albitite rock) is characterized by sharp decrease in the rare metals contents. However, extreme greisenization (i. e. endogreisen bodies) is characterized by a considerable enrichment in Zr (av. 5464 ppm), Hf (143), Nb (2329), Ta (152), U (66) and Th (178). The Th/U ratio ranges between 1. 57 and 3. 60. In contrast to extreme greisenization, it seems that extreme albitization does not apparently change the fluid pH and therefore poor amounts of rare metals are localized in the albitites.
It is suggested that the presence of Na+, H+ and F- in the ore fluids was essential to stablize complexes of Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, U, Th, and HREE during extraction and transportation. In contrast, contemporaneous decrease of temperature and increasing pH due to decreasing pressure are considered the essential factors for localization of disseminated mineralization of Zr and Nb in the apical parts of the UNAP. The enhanced uranium content in the alteration facies of UNAP coupled with the absence of significant uranium mineralization may indicate the metalliferous rather than mineralized nature for the UNAP. The high uranium contents are stabilized in refractory accessory minerals. However, with repect to Zr and Nb, the UNAP especially the albitized and greisen facies, can be categorized as a mineralized productive granite.  相似文献

The study area lies to the east of Qattara Depression at the north of the Western Desert, Egypt. It is bounded by latitudes 29°00?? and 30°00?? N and longitudes 28°00?? and 29°30?? E, including Abu Gharadig basin, which is the most petroliferous basin in the Egyptian Western Desert. Numerous exploratory wells show that the area is characterized by a thick sedimentary section, unconformably overlying the basement rocks. The main objective of the present study is to outline the structural parameters controlling the area under consideration. Aeromagnetic and gravity data were subjected to the analytic signal, 3D Euler deconvolution and edge enhancement techniques. The Analytic signal and 3D Euler deconvolution were utilized mainly to locate the main subsurface contact zones and to determine the depth and structural indices of the expected causative subsurface structural elements. However, the edge enhancement technique was used with various windows to enhance the edges of subsurface structures. The structural indices were estimated to be ranging between 0.16 and 0.26, indicating that the area is mainly controlled by faults. The depth of these structural elements was also estimated to be ranging between <1.37 and 5.29?km. It has been shown that the structural elements of the study area have different directions, trending E-W, ENE, NW, and N-S.  相似文献

In the present study, heat-shock protein of M(r) 70 kDa (HSP70), a marker of cellular stress response, was validated as a potential biomarker under field conditions. The dab, Limanda limanda (female, size > or = 25 cm, spawning maturity stage 2) was used as the indicator organism. The data on HSP level were correlated with the occurrence of DNA damage, measured in the same specimens of L. limanda, to prove the usefulness of the method. The area under investigation was the North Sea. Four locations were selected: station N01, close to Heligoland, in the North Sea; station N04 at the Dogger Bank; station N06 at the Firth of Forth; and station G08 in the English Channel. Ten animals from each location were selected and their livers used for the experiments. The results show that the highest levels of HSP70 (consisting of two forms of M(r) 75 and 73 kDa) were in fish from station N04, while low values were measured in livers from L. limanda collected at station N01. Intermediate levels were seen in the animals from the two other locations. By application of a novel technique, it was found that the extent of DNA damage (single-strand breaks and alkaline labile sites) in fish liver parallels the levels of both HSP70 forms. Our results suggest that L. limanda may be a useful bioindicator and heat-shock proteins, a useful biomarker for monitoring of environmental pollution.  相似文献

Modeling and simulation using GPS-X software for a packed bed up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket followed by a biological aerated filter were studied. Both treatment units were packed with a non-woven polyester fabric as a bio-bed. The system was operated at a hydraulic and organic loading rate of 9.65 m3/m2/d and 2.64 kg BOD5/m3/day. Verification of the experimental results and calibration of the model were carried out prior simulation and modeling. Variables under consideration were HLR, OLR, and surface area of the packing material. HLR and OLR are increased incrementally until the break through point has been achieved. The results obtained from modeling indicated that the treatment system has great potential to be used as an ideal and efficient option for high hydraulic and organic loading rates up to 19.29 m3/m2/d and 4.48 kg BOD5/m3/day. The model indicated that increasing the input HLR and OLR loads to the treatment system up to 50 % of the original values achieved removal efficiencies 98 % for TSS, 88 % for BOD5, and 85 % for COD. Moreover, increasing the HLR to four times the original value (38.59 m3/m2/d) reduced the efficiency of the treatment system to 50 % for COD and BOD5. However, the removal rates of TSS, TKN, and TP were not affected. Also, the modeling results indicated that increasing the surface area of the packing material increased the overall efficiency of the treatment system.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to get new critertia for spectral classification of some early type stars which depend on the flux in the UV region λ λ 1500–2500 by carrying out spectrophotometric analysis of observational ultraviolet data of stars obtained by the S2/68 Ultraviolet Sky Survey Telescope (UVSST) aboard the European Space Research Organization (ESRO) Satellite TD1. We have developed these new criteria based on the Intrinsic Ultraviolet Colour Index (IUI), and the Intrinsic Flux Ratio (IFR). Using these quantities we are going to represent the results of spectral classification of 323 early type stars mainly from spectral type B and A. The results of calculations of the Intrinsic Flux Ratios for the stars under investigation together with their Colour Temperatures (Tc) are given. Comparison between our suggested two new criteria with the MK classification system and Cucchairo (1980) classification system was carried out. The magnitude 8.1 earthquake and subsequent tsunami killed 52 people when it hit the Solomon Islands on 2 April 2007. That number would have likely been considerably higher were it not for the appropriate reaction of the indigenous coastal populations and a helpful physical geography. Buffering coral reefs reflected some wave energy back to sea, reducing the power of the wave. Hills a short distance behind the coastal villages provided accessible havens. Despite this beneficial physiography, immigrant populations died at disproportionately high rates in comparably damaged areas because they did not recognize the signs of the impeding tsunami. The indigenous population of Tapurai, which lacks a steep barrier reef to reflect the incoming energy, experienced a much more powerful wave, and the population suffered heavy losses. Indigenous knowledge as an integral tool in basin wide tsunami warning systems has the potential to mitigate disasters in the near field. Community-based disaster management plans must be cognizant of educating diverse populations that have different understandings of their environment.  相似文献

Mineral chemistry and geochemical characteristics of beryl-bearing granitoids in Eastern Desert of Egypt, were examined in order to identify the metallogenetic processes of the host granitoids. The investigated Be-bearing granitoids and type occurrences are classified into two groups: (i) peraluminous, Ta ≥ Nb + Sn + Be ± W-enriched, Li-albite granite (e.g. Nuweibi and Abu Dabbab); and (ii) metasomatized, Nb >> Ta + Sn + Be ± W ± Mo-enriched alkali feldspar granite (i.e. apogranite; e.g. Homr Akarem, Homr Mikpid and Qash Amir). In these two groups, beryl occurs as stockwork greisen veins, greisen bodies, beryl-bearing cassiterite ± wolframite quartz veins, dissemination, and miarolitic pegmatites. Beryl of the Be-granitoids, particularly those of miarolitic pegmatites, contains appreciable contents of Fe, Na, and H2O. An important feature of the Be-apogranites is the occurrence of white mica as the sole mafic mineral in the unaltered alkali feldspar granite in lower zones. Presence of white mica as volatile-rich pockets suggests that the melt underwent disequilibrium crystallization, rapid nucleation rates, and exsolving and expulsion of volatiles.  相似文献
