P, T, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) relations of gehlenite, anorthite, grossularite, wollastonite, corundum and calcite have been determined experimentally at P f =1 and 4 kb. Using synthetic starting minerals the following reactions have been demonstrated reversibly
  1. 2 anorthite+3 calcite=gehlenite+grossularite+3 CO2.
  2. anorthite+corundum+3 calcite=2 gehlenite+3 CO2.
  3. 3anorthite+3 calcite=2 grossularite+corundum+3CO2.
  4. grossularite+2 corundum+3 calcite=3 gehlenite+3 CO2.
  5. anorthite+2 calcite=gehlenite+wollastonite+2CO2.
  6. anorthite+wollastonite+calcite=grossularite+CO2.
  7. grossularite+calcite=gehlenite+2 wollastonite+CO2.
In the T, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) diagram at P f =1 kb two isobaric invariant points have been located at 770±10°C, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) =0.27 and at 840±10°C, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) =0.55. Formation of gehlenite from low temperature assemblages according to (4) and (2) takes place at 1 kb and 715–855° C, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) =0.1–1.0. In agreement with experimental results the formation of gehlenite in natural metamorphic rocks is restricted to shallow, high temperature contact aureoles.  相似文献

Experiments with synthetic starting materials of muscovite, phlogopite, zoisite, kyanite and quartz were performed in the pressure temperature range 10–25 kbar, 640–780° C under water excess conditions. The reaction muscovite+zoisite+quartz+vapor=liquid+kyanite was bracketed at 10.5 kbar/689–700° C, 15.5 kbar/709–731° C and 20 kbar/734–745° C. The equivalent reaction in the Mg-bearing system muscovitess +zoisite+quartz+vapor=liquid+kyanite+phlogopitess lies at the same temperature around 10 kbar and approximately 10° C higher around 20 kbar, compared with the Mg-free reaction. At slightly higher temperatures formation of melt and tremolitess was reversibly observed from the assemblage phlogopitess+zoisite +kyanite+quartz around 10.5 kbar/690–710° C, 15.5 kbar/720–750° C and 20.5 kbar/745–760° C. In the subsolidus region, the reaction muscovitess+talcss+ tremolitess=phlogopitess+zoisite+quartz+vapor were located in the range 700° C/16.7–19.0 kbar and 740° C/19.7–20.8 kbar. From these data, a wedge shaped stability field of phlogopitess+zoisite+quartz appears with a high P, T termination around 21 kbar/755° C. Muscovite+tremolite+talc or kyanite comes in at higher pressures. These phase relations are in qualitative accord with petrographic observations from high pressure metamorphic areas. Formation and crystallization of melts in rocks of a wide compositional range involving zoisite/epidote has been ascribed to relatively high pressures and is consistent with experimentally determined stability fields in the simplified KCMASH system.  相似文献

One of the primary prerequisites for the application of organic proxies is that they should not be substantially affected by diagenesis. However, studies have shown that oxic degradation of biomarker lipids can affect their relative distribution. We tested the diagenetic stability of the U37K and TEX86 palaeothermometers upon long term oxygen exposure. For this purpose, we studied the distributions of alkenones and glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs) in different sections of turbidites at the Madeira Abyssal Plain (MAP) that experienced different degrees of oxygen exposure. Sediments were deposited anoxically on the shelf and then transported by turbidity currents to the MAP, which has oxic bottom water. This resulted in partial degradation of the turbidite organic matter as a result of long term exposure to oxic bottom water. Concentrations of GDGTs and alkenones were reduced by one to two orders of magnitude in the oxidized parts of the turbidites compared to the unoxidized parts, indicating substantial degradation. High-resolution analysis of the Pleistocene F-turbidite showed that the U37K index of long chain alkenones increased only slightly (0.01, corresponding to <0.5 °C) in the oxidized part of the turbidite, suggesting minor preferential degradation of the C37:3 alkenone, in agreement with previous studies. TEX86 values showed a small increase (0.02, corresponding to ~2 °C) in the F-turbidite, like U37K, while for other Pliocene/Miocene turbidites it either remained unchanged or decreased substantially (up to 0.06, corresponding to ~6 °C). Previous observations showed that the BIT index, a proxy for the contribution of soil organic matter to total organic carbon, was always substantially higher in the oxidized part in all the turbidites, as a result of preferential degradation of marine-derived GDGTs. This relative increase in soil-derived GDGTs affects TEX86, as the isoprenoid GDGT distribution on the continent can be quite different from that in the marine environment. Our results indicate that the organic proxies are affected by long term oxic degradation to different extents; this should be taken into account when applying these proxies in palaeoceanographic studies of sediments which have been exposed to prolonged oxic degradation.  相似文献

Perfluorinated acids and their salts have emerged as an important class of global environmental contaminants. Biological monitoring surveys conducted using tissues of marine organisms reported the occurrence of perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) and related perfluorinated compounds in biota from various seas and oceans, including the Arctic and the Antarctic Oceans. Occurrence of perfluorinated compounds in remote marine locations is of concern and indicates the need for studies to trace sources and pathways of these compounds to the oceans. Determination of sub-parts-per-trillion (ng/L) or parts-per-quadrillion (pg/L) concentrations of aqueous media has been impeded by relatively high background levels arising from procedural or instrumental blanks. Our research group has developed a reliable and highly sensitive analytical method by which to monitor perfluorinated compounds in oceanic waters. The method developed is capable of detecting PFOS, perfluorohexanesulfonate (PFHS), perfluorobutanesulfonate (PFBS), perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), perfluorononanoate (PFNA), and perfluorooctanesulfonamide (PFOSA) at a few pg/L in oceanic waters. The method was applied to seawater samples collected during several international research cruises undertaken during 2002–2004 in the central to eastern Pacific Ocean (19 locations), South China Sea and Sulu Seas (five), north and mid Atlantic Ocean (12), and the Labrador Sea (20). An additional 50 samples of coastal seawater from several Asian countries (Japan, China, Korea) were analyzed. PFOA was found at levels ranging from several thousands of pg/L in water samples collected from coastal areas in Japan to a few tens of pg/L in the central Pacific Ocean. PFOA was the major contaminant detected in oceanic waters, followed by PFOS. Further studies are being conducted to elucidate the distribution and fate of perfluorinated acids in oceans.  相似文献

Landscapes in southeastern Australia have changed dramatically since the spread of European colonisation in the 19th century. Due to widespread forest clearance for cultivation and grazing, erosion and sediment yields have increased by a factor of more than 150. In the 20th century, erosion and sediment yield were reduced again due to an increasing vegetative cover. Furthermore, during the last decades, thousands of small farm dams were constructed to provide drinking water for cattle. These dams trap a lot of sediment, thereby further reducing sediment delivery from hillslopes to river channels. Changes in sediment delivery since European colonisation are documented in sediment archives. Within this study, these changing rates in hillslope erosion and sediment delivery were modelled using a spatially distributed erosion and sediment delivery model (WATEM/SEDEM) that was calibrated for Australian ecosystems using sediment yield data derived from sedimentation rates in 26 small farm dams. The model was applied to the Murrumbidgee river basin (30,000 km2) under different land-use scenarios. First, the erosion and sediment yield under pre-European land-use was modelled. Secondly, recent land-use patterns were used in the model. Finally, recent land-use including the impact of farm dams and large reservoirs was simulated. The results show that the WATEM/SEDEM model is capable of predicting the intensity of the geomorphic response to changes in land-use through time. Changes in hillslope erosion and hillslope sediment delivery rates are not equal, illustrating the non-linear response of the catchment. Current hillslope sediment supply to the river channel network is predicted to be 370% higher compared to the pre-European settlement period, yet farm dams have reduced this back to 2.5 times the pre-19th century values. The role of larger reservoirs is even more important as they have reduced the current sediment supply downstream to their pre-European values, thus completely masking the increased hillslope erosion rates from land-use change. However, the model does so far not include valley widening and sediment storage in river systems. Therefore, modelled rates of sediment delivery are lower than observed values.  相似文献

The Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) are the European umbrella regulations for water systems. It is a challenge for the scientific community to translate the principles of these directives into realistic and accurate approaches. The aim of this paper, conducted by the Benthos Ecology Working Group of ICES, is to describe how the principles have been translated, which were the challenges and best way forward. We have tackled the following principles: the ecosystem-based approach, the development of benthic indicators, the definition of ‘pristine’ or sustainable conditions, the detection of pressures and the development of monitoring programs. We concluded that testing and integrating the different approaches was facilitated during the WFD process, which led to further insights and improvements, which the MSFD can rely upon. Expert involvement in the entire implementation process proved to be of vital importance.  相似文献

Apatite fission-track thermochronology was applied to the outcropping Variscan basement of the south-eastern Bohemian massif in order to resolve its post-Variscan cooling and denudation history. Nineteen samples could be dated by the grain-population method. The ages range from 235 to 90 Ma (Middle Triassic to Middle Cretaceous). Neglecting some local variations, they show a decrease from the western edge of the Moravian Thaya window towards the west and the south. Fission-track length histograms mainly exhibit broad distributions with arithmetic means between 12.3 and 13.4 µm, and standard deviations between 1.5 and 2.0 µm. Thermochronological model calculations of the measured data demonstrate that the apatite fission-track memory of the samples reaches back until the begin of the Cretaceous, and for some samples even until the Permian. The regional fission-track cooling pattern is not related to the limitations and the internal structure of the Moravian Thaya window, which appears to be an elder—probably Late Carboniferous to Permian—tectonic feature. Also the Vitis fault does not delimit areas of different thermochronological behaviour. Therefore, significant vertical offset on that fault can be excluded for the Cretaceous and Cenozoic. Thermochronological model calculations of fission-track ages and length data are consistent with the assumption of regional sedimentary reburial during the Late Cretaceous. The amount of reburial could have attained 1 km. The Cenozoic bulk denudation was in the order of 1 to 3 km.
Zusammenfassung Die postvariszische Abkühlungs- und Denudationsgeschichte der südöstlichen Böhmischen Masse wurde mittels Apatit-Spaltspuranalyse untersucht. Neunzehn Proben wurden mit der Kornpopulationsmethode datiert. Die Spaltspuralter liegen zwischen 235 und 90 Ma (mittlere Trias bis mittlere Kreide). Abgesehen von kleinen lokalen Abweichungen, nehmen die Alter von der Westecke des Thayafensters in Richtung Süden und Westen ab. Nahezu alle Histogramme der Spurenlängen zeigen relativ breite Verteilungen mit arithmetischen Mittelwerten zwischen 12,3 und 13,4 µm, und mit Standardabweichungen zwischen 1,5 und 2,0 µm. Thermochronologische Modellberechnungen mit den gemessenen Daten zeigen, daß das Apatit-Spaltspurgedächtnis aller Proben mindestens bis zum Beginn der Kreide, für manche Proben sogar bis ins Perm zurückreicht. Die regionale Verteilung der Spaltspurdaten zeigt keine Übereinstimmung mit den Grenzen und dem inneren Bau des Thayafensters, welches eine offenbar ältere—wahrscheinlich oberkarbonische bis permische—tektonische Struktur darstellt. Auch an der Vitisstörung tritt keine sprunghafte Änderung des thermochronologischen Verhaltens der Gesteine auf. Daher kann ein bedeutender kretazischer oder känozoischer Vertikalversatz an dieser Störung ausgeschlossen werden. Thermochronologische Modellberechnungen der Apatit-Spaltspurdaten unterstützen die Annahme einer regionalen Wiederversenkung infolge oberkretazischer Sedimentbedeckung. Die Mächtigkeit der oberkretazischen Sedimente über dem Grundgebirge könnte bis ca. 1 km betragen haben. Der känozoische Gesamtabtrag lag zwischen 1 und 3 km.

From a study of eight hard X-ray flares, all with durations of less than five minutes, it is found that these flares can be completely decomposed into short-lived bursts, called Elementary Flare Bursts (EFB). For each one flare the individual EFB's have approximatively the same Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM); average values range between 4 s (± 1 s) and 24 s (± 5 s) for the different flares. Yet there are significant differences between the FWHM's for the individual EFB's of a flare. The EFB's are slightly asymmetric; rise time is approx. 0.9 of the decay time. Their half-widths decrease with increasing photon energy, proportional to E -0.69±0.05.  相似文献
