Observations show that the summer precipitation over East China often goes through decadal variations of opposite sign over North China and the Yangtze River valley (YRV), such as the “southern flood and northern drought” pattern that occurred during the late 1970s–1990s. In this study it is shown that a modulation of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) on the summer precipitation pattern over East China during the last century is partly responsible for this characteristic precipitation pattern. During positive PDO phases, the warm winter sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the eastern subtropical Pacific along the western coast of North American propagate to the tropics in the following summer due to weakened oceanic meridional circulation and the existence of a coupled wind–evaporation–SST feedback mechanism, resulting in a warming in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean (5°N–20°N, 160°W–120°W) in summer. This in turn causes a zonal anomalous circulation over the subtropical–tropical Pacific Ocean that induces a strengthened western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) and thus more moisture over the YRV region. The end result of these events is that the summer precipitation is increased over the YRV region while it is decreased over North China. The suggested mechanism is found both in the observations and in a 600-years fully coupled pre-industrial multi-century control simulations with Bergen Climate Model. The intensification of the WPSH due to the warming in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean was also examined in idealized SSTA-forced AGCM experiments.  相似文献

Two new C15 sesquiterpanes have been isolated from a Niger Delta oil. Based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data, their structures are similar to the ring D and E part of oleanane. The mass spectra show an m/z 193 base peak typical of rearranged drimanes. They have been found only in oleanane-containing oils with a Cretaceous or Tertiary source. Data are presented for 34 such oils from Angola, Canada, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, New Zealand, Nigeria, Thailand and Vietnam. The ratio between the new sesquiterpanes and rearranged drimanes roughly follows the oleanane index. They are absent from marine oils whose source rock age (Jurassic or older) predates the evolution and proliferation of angiosperms. They are probably formed via degradation of functionalized oleanoids or by cleavage of seco-oleananes. These sesquiterpanes may be useful as markers of angiosperm input in light oils (jet fuel, diesel or condensates) usually devoid of higher molecular weight markers for higher plant input.  相似文献

The spatial continuity of facies is one of the key factors controlling flow in reservoir models. Traditional pixel-based methods such as truncated Gaussian random fields and indicator simulation are based on only two-point statistics, which is insufficient to capture complex facies structures. Current methods for multi-point statistics either lack a consistent statistical model specification or are too computer intensive to be applicable. We propose a Markov mesh model based on generalized linear models for geological facies modeling. The approach defines a consistent statistical model that is facilitated by efficient estimation of model parameters and generation of realizations. Our presentation includes a formulation of the general framework, model specifications in two and three dimensions, and details on how the parameters can be estimated from a training image. We illustrate the method using multiple training images, including binary and trinary images and simulations in two and three dimensions. We also do a thorough comparison to the snesim approach. We find that the current model formulation is applicable for multiple training images and compares favorably to the snesim approach in our test examples. Abstract– Melt‐bearing impactites dominated by suevite, and with a minor content of clast‐rich impact melt rock, are found within the central part of the Gardnos structure. They are preserved as the eroded remnants in the relatively small complex impact structure with a present diameter of 5 km. These rocks have been mapped in the field and in the Branden drill core, and described according to mineralogy/petrology, including matrix, litho clast, and melt content, as well as geochemistry. Based on our extensive field mapping, a simple 3‐D model of the original crater was constructed to estimate tentative volumes for the melt‐bearing impactites. The variations in lithic and melt fragment content and chemistry of suevite matrix can mostly be explained by incorporation of mafic rocks into a dominant mixture of granitic, gneissic, and quartzitic target rocks, reflecting mixing of material from different parts of the crater. Melt fragments within suevite occur with a variety of shapes and textures, probably related to different original target rock composition, to the various temperatures the individual fragments were subjected to during the impact event and deposition processes. This study discusses the impact‐related deposits based on a sedimentological approach. Their overall composition and structures indicate dominating gravity flow processes in the final transportation and deposition of the suevite.  相似文献

A procedure to calculate horizontal slow drift excitation forces on an infinitely long horizontal cylinder in irregular beam sea waves is presented. The hydrodynamic boundary-value problem is solved correctly to second order in wave amplitude. Results in the form of second order transfer functions are presented for different two-dimensional shapes. It is concluded that Newman's approximative method is a practical way to calculate slow drift excitation forces on a ship in beam sea and suggested that it may be used in a more general case. Applications of the results for moored ships are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we review existing and alternative metrics of climate change, with particular emphasis on radiative forcing and global warming potentials (GWPs), in terms of their scientific performance. Radiative forcing is assessed in terms of questions such as the utility of the concept, uncertainties and sensitivity to key assumptions. The assessment of emission indices focuses on the climate and other resulting impacts (end points) against which emissions are weighted; the extent to which (and how) time dependence is included, with regard to both emission control and impact; how cost issues are dealt with; and the sensitivity of the metrics to various assumptions. It is concluded that the radiative forcing concept is a robust and useful metric of the potential climatic impact of various agents and that there are prospects for improvement by weighing different forcings according to their effectiveness. We also find that although the GWP concept is associated with serious shortcomings, it retains advantages over any of the proposed alternatives in terms of political feasibility. Alternative metrics, however, make a significant contribution to addressing important issues, and this contribution should be taken into account in the further development of refined metrics of climate change.  相似文献

A White Paper on a new integrated management plan for the Norwegian Sea was launched by the Norwegian government in May 2009. Following international guidelines for ecosystem-based management, the plan provides an overall framework for managing all human activities (mainly oil and gas industry, fishing, and shipping) in the area to ensure the continued production and function of the ecosystem. The plan is based on an assessment of the present and projected future impact of human activities and of the interactions between them, taking into account deficits in current knowledge of ecosystem state and dynamics. Areas of particular value in terms of biodiversity or biological production were identified. In each of these valuable areas, any access for substantial human activity is to be carefully managed. To monitor the overall development of the Norwegian Sea, a set of indicators with associated environmental quality objectives have been selected. The approach used builds upon experience gained from the first integrated Norwegian management plan for a marine area, the Barents Sea–Lofoten region, developed in 2002–2006. Work towards a Norwegian management plan for the North Sea, including Skagerrak, was initiated in 2009.  相似文献
